Continuing on the CE news, Activision has announced the Collector's Edition of Call of Duty: World at War. For PC, it'll run you $70. For 360, $80. For PS3... it hasn't been announced yet. X3F has the scoop (http://www.xbox360fanboy.com/2008/09/26/call-of-duty-world-at-war-gets-collectors-treatment/):

When it rains collector's editions it certainly pours! Jumping on the bandwagon set up by EA for special editions of Dead Space and Mirror's Edge, Activision has announced a special Collector's Edition of Call of Duty: World at War. Various treats are available with the package which includes the upcoming World War II shooter. Goodies included are:

* Call of Duty: World at War videogame (surprise!)
* World at War branded canteen
* FG 42 Machine Gun available on Day 1 (Usually a Level 45+ weapon)
* One week of Double-XP goodness (Actual week unknown)
* Colored Clan Tag (In-game multiplayer character indicator)
* Stylish tin box to place above-listed treats

So far only the Xbox 360 and PC have had Collector's Editions confirmed. The Xbox 360 edition will retail for $80 while the PC will ask $70 for the set.

Slightly more tolerable price tag, but still nothing really worth paying extra for. The in-game 'Colored Clan Tag' should be included in all versions, not just the CE.

Oi. Enhanced revenue streams FTW I suppose. Man, I think I need a cheaper hobby. Maybe something like collecting exotic sports cars...

If all the versions had the colored clan tag, then wouldn't that new color just become the color? As in, no one would have a special clan tag color? I'm not saying it's particularly valuable, but giving it to all versions takes every drop of value out of it.

I guess I presumed that you'd be able to pick the color of your clan tag, not just be assigned one.

Wait, what? It comes with a full week of Double XP?

This is just wrong.

Yet so compelling. Burn in hell motherfuckers.

I'm still not sold on this game yet. Too much burn left over from COD3. I'm waiting for reviews.

I feel burned on the CoD franchise as a whole. Mainly because it seems that a month or two later (although I'm sure its longer) a "gold edition" comes out with map packs for free at the same or lower MSRP that the early adopters payed for. Those same early adopters now have the choice on if they want to spend $10 on a map pack. I know lower prices and or incentives keep the game selling but it seems to come on too quickly for CoD ever since 2 at least.

Not that I'm gonna buy it, but the FG42 is a pretty wicked gun. The real life weapon was a German paratrooper gun that was essentially the MG42 scaled down so it could be carried/used on the move by paratroopers. Day one will suck for those of you that don't have one, and you come up against someone who bought the CE.
