GoGamer has updated the 48 Hour Madness sale (http://www.kqzyfj.com/click-386578-171950) with a special on Monolith's new horror/survival shooter, F.E.A.R. (http://www.kqzyfj.com/click-386578-171950), for only $29.90 and another special on Raven Software's Quake 4 (http://www.kqzyfj.com/click-386578-171950), for only $36.90.
F.E.A.R.: You aren't a soldier. You are a weapon. A paramilitary force infiltrates a multi billion dollar aerospace compound taking hostages, but issuing no demands. The government responds by sending in its best special operations teams, only to have them obliterated. Live footage of the massacre is cut short by an unexpected wave of destruction that leaves military leaders stunned and in disbelief.

Quake 4: In a desperate war for Earth's survival, against an unrelenting alien enemy, the only way to defeat them is to become one of them. Armed with advanced weaponry and vehicles and aided by an elite squad of marines, you take the battle to the heart of the Strogg home planet and become Earth's only hope for victory.

Your links dont work for me, anyone else?
Ba - Do you have a link for the Q4 DC DVD version? I wanted to pick that up, but its 54.99 on their site, and as i said above, the links provided dont seem to work.
N/M - I figured it out. One of the re-direct servers (www.commission-junction.com) has been flagged as a spam/pop-up purveyor by Webroot, and had its IP blackholded to 127.0.0.1 via my hosts file. I undid the block out on that domain, and its working now.

Anyone on the fence with F.E.A.R. should definitely pick the title up, especially at that price. I finished the game 2 days ago, and I literally couldn't get my heart to stop racing for a good 20 minutes once I was done. Heh, there is NO killing in current gaming as satisfying as blowing an enemy's head clean off onto the wall in front of you with the shotgun. Blood spatters and all, it is fantastic!
I thought it was easily worth the price of admission, especially if you are a fan of the FPS genre. Like a heathy mix of Half-Life 2, Max Payne 2, and Doom 3.

They work for me, they just take about 3 seconds to load after you click. If they don't work, don't worry about it as long as you are ordering from GoGamer.com you are helping support my page since they are one of our Sponsors now.

Started playing FEAR last night... creepy, creepy shit, no doubt about it. The guns (well, the 2 that I've used so far, anyway) feel great, too.

When I click on the link, it says Quake 4 is $44.90, not $34.90. Am I missing something? Although I do see the Special Edition dvd for 37 bucks...

These are both real solid games. I wish I'd waited before picking them up so I could get them from gogamer.

The E-mail I got said it was $37.90 for Quake 4. On the page the special is $36.90 for the DVD version. It is $44.90 for the CD version.

I bought my DVD version of FEAR from these guys. Fan-frickin-tastic game. The movement just feels right, and the guns are nice and powerful. I like how you seem to take the same amount of damage as the enemies. The only difference is you have the reflex ability, and the unique ability to gather med packs. Highly, highly recommended if you even remotely like FPS.

You're the one that Jack Thompson hates! I, on the other hand, will be picking up FEAR for the amazing atmosophere it presents. That and the mass slaughter of psychic soldiers with that nail like gun that pins bodies to the wall. God that's so cool! And the plasma gun, shit yea!

gogamer.com is the only place I order my PC games. Awesome site with even better prices.
While the sniper elite game isn't a AAA title, nailing a guy with a headshot thru multiple types of cover in slow motion from 203 meters has a certain satisfaction to it as well. I still prefer the bullet time in Max Payne to the FEAR version myself.

I've been having a good time with F.E.A.R. as well. It has some issues, mostly in the sometimes repetitive nature of the enemies and environments. The good news is that the combat itself is top notch, with intelligent and agile enemies. Plus there's something satisfying about emptying a clip into someone in slow-motion as they call out "oh shit", realizing they're taking their last breath.
And you can quote me on that, Mr. Thompson. :)

Dude the thing about all the game violence, is that its not happining so its cool to be satisfied while making a cool kill.
I like using the penetrator on someone's head from 100 yards. Then inspecting the damage.
I think I'll try it out on the guy who makes sandwiches down the street.

btw, I had no idea this store existed, and I was actually thinking of going out and buying FEAR at full price (no intrest in Q4 whatsoever). So I have to thank you Evil. One thing about gogamer -- their cheap shipping is Media Mail, which is REALLY slow. They shipped something to me on the 11th. 16 days later, and I still don't have it.
Perhaps a postman is hand carrying it from CA to DC?

I had some problems with F.E.A.R. as well. I found it had very bad architecture, it felt like level design didn't really make any sense. I also felt like it was a complete rip off from Max Panye 2 with all the dream sequences and slo mo (loved Max Payne), so that kind of eh me about it. I do like the slo mo though and think more games should do that without the dream sequences. Other than that I like the game. I finished it and moved on to Quake 4 which I am actually enjoying. I didn't think I would enjoy this game as much, but I may be liking it more than fear.

Media mail is the slowest mail out there. I'm really not too surprised.

The levels didn't make any sense? They're all office buildings, what is there to not make sense? I'll grant that they're a touch repetative, but there's enough variety in the layout that I haven't minded at all.
As for the dream sequences, I'm a good portion into FEAR, and there have only been 2 or 3 total. I wouldn't call them Max Payne ripoffs because its not like MP invented the idea of a dream sequence. Plus, in FEAR they're more like quick hallucinations that come and go (and therefore don't interrupt the overall gameplay like they did in MP).
I'm playing Q4 at the same time, and while Q4 is pretty cool, FEAR satisfies me more in terms of a single player experience.

Dammit, I was all set to pee my pants and get my credit card out until I realized it was for the CD-ROM edition. I need to think about whether I want another 3/4/5 CDs lying around my computer area or one single DVD.

Saying a game's like Max Payne means I'll probably like it since I loved both MP's. Liked Fear and I'm liking Q4. I need to replay Fear now that I have the 7800GT. Q4 has the most amazing graphic and Raven's done a standup job on the game. Wonder around and listen to the NPC's talking some time. It's interesting. Fleshes out the story with comments talking about your exploits in Quake 2.
Now what I need is SOF3 from Raven using the Quake4 engine to give me some brain splattering, dismembering goodness.

What I think is cool is seeing some new PC releases getting some good press. It just feels like the last year or two most of the bigger PC releases have been kind of a let down.

You mean to tell me you didn't get the memo about PC gaming being dead? You surprise me, Evil.
My local EB Games has shrunk their PC games section to less than half the size of their Game Cube section. :(

If you were talking about FEAR, they do offer the DVD version (http://www.gogamer.com/cgi-bin/GoGamer.storefront/SESSIONID/Product/View/001FEAD) for $42.90. Not as cheap, but still below retail.

For the most part, I have to disagree with you here. The designers chose to use an office setting for the environment, so the architecture made sense to have a lot of similar locations. The part that makes them interesting are the firefights you have in each area, and how the cover affects those.
However, I did find myself wandering around the levels wondering where the hell the office workers went to the bathroom. Couldn't find a single one.

Who needs EB or Gamestop when you have a Fry's nearby? I get games $5-15 cheaper just waiting a day after store release. I picked up FEAR for $36.99 instead of paying 49.99 at EB.

Consider that luxurious! My local Gamestop has the PC games crammed down to ONE side of a 4' x 4' wire rack island inthe middle of the store!
Now, I LONG ago stopped doing much shopping there because a few years back the manager (who was a friend of mine) quit and the store just kind of went to hell in a handbasket... the personnel situation was just... bizarre and the place looks like a bombed-out latrine, to put it politely. But if I DID still go there regularly, I'd certainly stop now... its nothing short of flat-out depressing walking into that place now and seeing that single side of a shitty rack that only comes up to my rib cage stuffed full of bargain-bin garbage in beat-up boxes trying to pass for a decent selection of PC games. =(

My local Gamestop only has PC games on TWO SHELVES of that same 4' x 4' wire rack island. The bottom two shelves are strategy guides.
Of course, my local Gamestop didn't seem to have any new console titles in stock either - both of the big 5' x 5' glass cases behind the counter were stocked side to side with nothing but empty pre-order boxes. (Quake 4 and Gun if I remember correctly.)
At least when I was shopping at EB inside the mall, that glass case was always stocked with new games.
Just got a commission from me, EVIL. Quake and FEAR. :D

Man, I do that sort of thing all the time. Then, when I finally get round to installing and playing the games, they've invariably dropped in price to below what I paid for them 'on sale' all those months ago.

Aye, I'm still not that sure I'm all that hot for it but at that price I can't pass up FEAR. The pitfall of being a cheap ass is that you're a sucker for an outstanding sale. :D
Still there's not a chance I'll be touching it in the near future since I've lost my life to Civ4, I was already dreaming I was playing it in my sleep the first night. Still collecting parts for my new comp though so it won't run on my laptop anyway. :p Now to decide if the DVD version is worth it in the next hour.
Anyone know how their return policy is? At that price I'm really tempted to grab Q4 as well hoping the MP is great, but if it's that similar to Q3 maybe I should just pull that out. :p
Edit- I'm reading their return policy and I see this part about shipping where it says:
GoGamer does not reimburse for lost Priority mail packages. We can only supply our customers with tracking numbers from the postal office.
Yea that doesn't make me very comfortable. :(
