You can preorder Gothic 2 Gold over at Amazon (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000BNJMIM/aspyrmedia-20/002-4944260-8901668) and over at EB Games (http://www.ebgames.com/ebx/categories/products/deptpage.asp?wherefrom=search&searchword=Gothic). I am sure GoGamer (http://www.gogamer.com/cgi-bin/GoGamer.storefront/EN/Catalog) will have it up soon as well. The same goes with Spellforce Platinum and Silent Storm Gold.

Gothic 2 Gold will be released November 14, Spellforce Platinum and Silent Storm Gold will be released November 7. All are for 19.99.

Thanks RPGDOT (http://www.rpgdot.com/#43104) for the heads up.

I knew it. Since I saw it last night on rpg. I knew Jetherik would pop in and do this so I don't have to.

I'll be planning to pick this up, although God knows when I'll actually get the chance to play it.

Anyone who's played Gothic 2: is it required reading to have played Gothic 1 first? Or recommended? I have a copy sitting around, I've just never gotten the chance to do much with it yet.

No, you don't really need to play the first Gothic to enjoy number 2. You spend a good ten minutes with some wizard during the beginning that pretty much fills you in on all the backstory.

Oh and everyone needs to pick up Silent Hill. Best strategy game of 2003 or whenever it was and Sentinels is also pretty awesome.

I'm definitely getting all of these gold editions, no question.

Silent Hill was fun, not much of a strategy game. Now Silent Storm, that one's sweet.

Yeah, nothing better than marching your army of pyramid heads against the enemies' army of fog.

Going to be all over that Silent Storm since I missed it the first go round. The expansion didn't even come out over here did it though?

The expansions for Gothic, Silent Storm, and I think one of the Spellforces did not make it to the US.

Playing Gothic 1 is not required, but, it is fun to get the backstory (when you meet characters that you met from Gothic 1 - they will tell you how you met them, etc., to fill in their story). If you don't want to do Gothic 1 but really want to know the full story read the walk through at RPGDot (http://gothic.rpgdot.com/?hsaction=10062&game=gothic&l1=Walkthrough&infoID=33).

Here is a Gothic 2 Night of the Raven review on RPGDot (http://www.rpgdot.com/index.php?hsaction=10053&ID=927).

You start Gothic 2 with amnesia, so the characters all fill you in on what happened to you in the first game. I never even played Gothic, and I fully enjoyed the sequel.

Is Gothic 2 Gold worth picking up? I've been looking for a good RPG, I've gone from shooter to shooter to action game, and so on so i've been looking for a little bit of a change of pace.

Without having played it yet myself, I can tell you the answer you're going to get: YES, FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, YES. EvAv is full of Gothic fanboys. :) Luckily, I think the series probably deserves it. I've played some of the first and plan to pick this pack up, and it's basically a super-deep RPG with fairly good graphics (better for its time, but still). The only frustration factor most people seem to have is the control scheme.

I might just wait for 3 if the controls are such a pain. Though I did make it through Hitman....

The controls take a little getting used to but they really arent bad, in fact I like the way Gothic II controls.

I hated the controls at first, but didn't mind them at all after just a short while. I've certainly played titles with much worse controls (Tomb Raider anyone?)

After playing Gothic 1, the controls of Gothic 2 were a bit better - so I loved them since they weren't 1. It takes about 5-10 minutes to get used to them and then you are fine. Then, when it comes to fighting humans or orcs, getting the blocks down and so forth, that took a bit, but it gave you the feeling of great control. Once you were comfortable with fighting humans, the combats were great. Pick it up and you won't regret it.
