Haven't played the demo yet, anyone mind confirming that fracture is indeed a piece of #$%&?

There's been zero buzz on Fracture. I'm guessing this game was left to die.

I saw a brief glimpse of Fracture on X-Play the other day, it actually looked interesting. Of course, I don't know why everyone's been so down on it, every time I see or hear about it, it seems cool, so maybe I'm missing something.

I think everybody sees it as one big gimmick instead of interesting play mechanics. I get that sentiment, but moreso because I don't really believe in that kind of weapons in the future. It's just too far fetched. And rolling a big rock over someone doesn't seem as plausible as just shooting the crap out of them.

At least the TFU manual isn't lying to me anymore.

Also, I need to snag me a copy of Burnout.

Hey at least play the demo before you call it crap. Give the developers some respect at least.

Anyone play Fracture yet? I'm kinda in the mood to shoot something, give me something to look forward to when the kids go to bed tonight.

Man, I hate that my school only allows downloads from XBL to go at most 50kb/s or I would be all over fracture.

Definitely more of a gimmick than a fun gameplay mechanic. This opinion is obviously based on a two level demo so I could be completely wrong but I doubt it.

Fracture is, like most games released in the past few months, a great idea executed poorly. The fact that your ground altering gun is only useful in some situations, most of those being pre-determined spots created by the devs takes this from fun gameplay mechanic to gimmick. The earth altering spots seem forced and after a while it starts to feel like work instead of play. I found my self thinking "This is annoying just let me jump over or crawl under" (which you can do just not in those situations). If the games level design were more open and there were multiple ways to tackle an obstacle and being forced to use said ability didn't sometimes break the flow of the level I think this would have been a fun game. Unfortunately because it relies so heavily on the Gears of War style outdoor "corridor" school of level design and "use only we we say you can" special ability the game loses that feeling of originality soon on and replaces is it with that feeling of "Great, another shooter:rolleyes:".

That being said it is in no way a bad game, the graphics are good, the controls are responsive and smooth and the gunplay while being traditional works. I think a lot of people will enjoy this game but I believe most of them will be fairly new the the shooter genre because most of us "old timers" expect a bit more from our games, especially when such a potentially cool gimmick is involved.

Lets just hope the full game proves me wrong and the later levels of the game really open up giving you the gameply options and choices needed to make this game truly fun.

I hope this little demo review makes sense, I just woke up and I played the demo last night (early this morning) before I crashed.

Thanks for that, Grifter, that sounds about like what I was expecting. The demo will more than likely satisfy my curiosity.

The demo was quite fun, showing off some of the weapons that can also manipulate the surroundings, but the controls felt kind of flimsy (even though I lowered the sensitivity). The physics in the game seems really good though, with parts of buildings and such flying all over when blown up. I played the PS3 version.

Um? I don't think anyone has inferred that Fracture is shit. In fact, quite the opposite... Sazime did a write-up on it recently and liked it a lot.

Not sure if the demo is multiplayer, but Sazime said the multiplayer was really sweet and I believe he said you can use the ground-altering guns anywhere.

Not everywhere, it has to be dirt ground.

You can use them anywhere that is dirt but it's just cosmetic in most places and it doesn't even have an effect on others(stll dirt though). Play the demo and you'll see what I mean, it's not bad just not nearly as cool or freeform as it should have been.

I can hope that those were just 'intro' levels to get you used to the game, but it at least sounds like a good rental. I'll probably be able to download for myself tomarrow.

Not quite bad, but I felt it kinda messy. At least it has some color to it, looks nice.

The gameplay mechanics were all over the place though. Switching grenades, weapons, all the time seemed a poor way to guide people into the game. For some reason it reminded me of Bionic Commando (alternate way of navigating the field), but I'll think I'll wait for that. Nice backgrounds though.

Now that I know something about what Fracture is, I can better enjoy (and understand) today's PA comic.

Although I have to admit, that's one of the best Penny Arcades in a while. Who knew Fracture would be this fun to make fun of?
