From the Shack (http://www.shacknews.com/onearticle.x/54780), click link for the full unedited statement.
The limitations of the DVD medium and Xbox 360 hardware have not forced id to cut content from all versions of Rage (PC, PS3, 360), the studio has told Shacknews.
Following a report that id had removed "significant content" from all versions of the shooter so the game would fit onto two Xbox 360 DVDs, id Software's Tim Willits denied that the Xbox 360 version required the studio to sacrifice its vision for the game.
"There was NO CONTENT removed from RAGE because of the 360--NONE AT ALL," wrote Willits. "We feel the 360 is a great platform and will provide a fantastic Rage experience."

2 DL DVD's, thats a lot of space to fill with content.
I hope id doesnt take the easy path and gives us an "Assassins Creed" type of experience, with empty stretches of land between the city hubs.

Don't matter. Damage is done and every message board will make a big stink about RAGE being ruined due to the 360, and ignore the facts.

Something here stinks, senor.
edit: nm, update was old info. I do think MS PR gave Willits a call though.

I like it when developers and publishers can't get their internal politics out of the news.

Sounds like someone got a phone call from MS for damage control.
So is someone gonna get fired for breching the NDA again?

Sounds like fanboys pulled things out of context.

I'm sure MS called iD although this wouldn't be a unique move by a company. How many companies reversed negative press (slow Blu-Ray read times, lack of SDK support, cell issues, etc) about the PS3 shortly after it was released?

Put the game on three or four DVD's who cares? When the optional HDD install comes out, I intend on using it. So no harm done there id.

Its been stated multiple times, Microsoft's licensing makes it cost prohibitive to put games on any more than 2 discs.

That's great for those who have the bigger HDDs, but if you've got a 20GB (with 13GB of actual space) you'd be boned.

Yeah, the fee per disc thing is silly. As I am pretty sure the PS1 didn't have that. As otherwise all those 3 disc long RPGs would have never happened.

Did anyone really think content was cut? I thought we all knew it was just texture quality that was gonna have to be lowered to fit onto the 2 dvds.
If you read the article it turns out they did have to rethink because of the 2 DVD limit, but just that they are happy with the result.

This is just PR, things were changed because of the 360 version, and I'm still unhappy about that.

It's actually a chunk less than you think. A dual layer disc on 360 offers about 6.4gb of space to a game developer. A fixed amount of space on each disc is reserved for Microsoft. Reserved for what, specifically, I couldn't say.
..and ignore the facts.
People of every persuasion choose to ignore facts every single day.

Proper damage control would have been to not allow the story to come out in the first place. This secondary measure could potentially add to the rumor and rightfully so.

Unless of course, your publisher IS Microsoft (see Blue Dragon, Lost Odyssey.)
This is the reason why MS needs to invest in ways to increase the capacity of the DVD. I know I repeat myself when I say this, but can't they look into VMD technology for red laser optical medium?

Sounds about right. Which is to say, yes, the 360 version was changed. Whether you want to say it was "limited" or not depends on whether you tend to align yourself with MS, Sony, or PC gaming (if you align at all). Willits' statement does certainly sound like pr backpedaling, however.

Must... control... damage... can't hold on!
It is obvious that a LOT was cut out of this game to make it fit on two DVD's. The real shame is that if you own a PC or a PS3, you will never see those other four areas -- until they decide to sell us the expansion pack.

Why not release a stand alone Blue Ray drive player like they did with HD DVD? I mean who cares about royalties MS can afford it anyways. And then release a true "Elite" system with built in Blue Ray player and all problems with minimum storage is done with.
I mean how bizarre is it to call your machine next gen when it uses a dvd player....

Why not? Because it's fucking stupid. People will buy it for movies, not games. Developers are NOT going to release their game solely for some add-on (see: Sega 32X, etc etc). And they're also not going to spend extra money releasing a Blu-Ray AND DVD version.
Maybe next generation.

Well, if we look at the facts, they originally had 6 smaller areas. Not 6 larger areas. I think it makes sense to reason that they combined all six areas into two bigger ones for more efficiency/less loading etc.

Yeah, I suppose you're right. I guess I'm glad I was a moron and paid for the 120gig, it was damn expensive, but I don't have to worry now...maybe Mass Effect will be stutter and pop-in free with the install...one can hope it's playable now.

Thats great logic. DVD player <> "next gen". Makes perfect sense.
By the way, considering the 360 has been out for 3 years, and the PS3 has been out for 2, I think you can stop calling them "next gen".

Im beginning to think that all these types of stories are made up just for free advertisment. They throw out the bait, you guys (board users) do all the work bitching and flaming all the while getting the game more press.
How does it feel to be a pawn? And some of you are so passionate...

SO the PC version is going to have like 17 discs or some shit. I mean PC and 360 use the same format thus the storage capacity is moot and only thing you can look to is MS getting greedy on 3 discs and up
