videogamer has posted an interview with Diablo III Lead Designer Jay Wilson (http://www.videogamer.com/pc/diablo_3/preview-1253.html), including a quote where Wilson claims that the next Diablo III class that will be revealed by Blizzard might not win friends or influence people.
All the barbarian players are delighted and all the necromancers hate us. I understand, I don't begrudge them that. I would hate me too! But what I would say is that when we announce the next class, which is quite similar to a previous class, then all those players will hate us too. You can't make everybody happy, but I think when the game finally come out players will find there's a good class for them, one they will love as much as the ones that came before. And if they don't, I absolutely promise that in the expansions we'll consider bringing back old classes. We just don't want to do it with the first release. We want to establish our identity.

I don't get it, 'establish a identity' but totally open to bringing back the old classes? Identity crisis much?
I don't see what the fuss is about, it's not what the class is but how fun it plays that really matters.

I loved playing a Necromancer. :(

I don't see why Necromancer players should be pissed; same gameplay style, different thematics. Hell, I'm pretty excited about playing a Witch Doctor, but it seems like everyone is just trying to find reasons to bitch about this game.

As long as I can have a constant army of the undead following me around I'll be happy.

With the new environment I'm wondering if tele sorcs are going to be prevalent(possible?). I'm sure they'll have some sort of caster class...
My main concern is just that they find a different way to make the difficulty scale than adding life and peppering immunities. I don't have any suggestions of how to do this, but using immunities to make it 'hard' seems a little cheap.
They also need to revamp the in-game messaging system. It's ridiculously cumbersome to communicate with friends, and I have to say that something like what Steam has would be wonderful. Chat windows that overlay the screen so you can still see what's going on.
Last but not least, I'm hoping they find some great way of getting rid of spammers, or at least reducing how much they can say. Maybe you're allowed a quota of messages per time period, and if you exceed it then you're in a time out, sort of like TF. Anyway, I think it's just especially aggravating now because of how low the DII resolution is, so spammers really take up quite a bit of real estate

Seriously, I hate when I see gamers complain about "I hate sequels, they're the same games with spruced graphics and etc etc etc." and then when they change something major, people get really bent out of shape.
I've no idea what groups or sects participate in what kinds of bitching, but it's annoying as shit on both extremes.

Why can't Blizzard just make Diablo II, but better? All they'd have to do is improve it without changing anything!
As a side question - when I eat this cake, why don't I have it anymore?

he means that like any true artist, they want to make this piece of work different from their previous. They might consider the addition of old classes in expansions but for this game alone, it will be something of its own.
People really like to complain, dont they? Of COURSE blizzard are going to make changes and swap things around. But... this is blizzard, they'll keep at it until its right.

I hate when I hear "We want to establish our identity", Those of us who watch movies groan whenever we here this from a director working on an established franchise. It means that they are going to frak something up and sure enough 98% of the time they do. The two examples that pop in my head are "I am legend" and "doom", the source material was clear, but they just HAD to change it to separate themselves and we end up with mediocre/horrible crap for it. I am not saying it is the same with gaming, just that I have that gut reaction from movies and worry about it being the same in gaming.
I will admit that I am a bit worried, they are making a few changes that I personally question like the art style and not including classes that were favorites to many. This is not to say that I have made up my mind and condemn the game before I play it like some people or accept it no matter what, because its from blizzard "who can do no wrong", from the other side. I will remain neutral until I either get a lot more information or play it myself and then I can judge fairly.
Still, no necromancer class REALLY sucks :p

That class was available on Diablo 2 expansion : Lord of Destruction
I really don't care about the classes that the game will feature, I only care about the return once again of the sound that made the barbarian when jumping "Jiiiii !"

Also, I don't know which class is going to get the copycat axe, they all would be plausible. Paladin? Amazon? Sorceress? Any of those are hugely popular, but could be redone with a new skin. (I highly doubt we see an Amazon, since there's supposed to be both female and male versions of each class.)

Well done sir.
I'm betting it's the amazon. They're going to show a ranger or somesuch thing. And I'm hoping their talk of new connectivity/b.net changes does involve upgrading it to be less abusable and more steam-like. I will be so happy if it's limited to one account per cd, that would cut a lot of the stupid shit out. . .

I don't really see why gamers even have the freaking right to complain or hate anything. It's not their idea, not their money, not their ip, not their freaking company, not their risk, not their shareholders, etc.
Speak with your wallet, bitch all you want on forums if you have to but all the sad losers posting retouched screens and videos demanding an overhaul should seriously get a kick in the face.
Sure your entitled to not liking it, but petitions and shit is really stretching it.

Blizzard cannibalized alot of the skills/classes from Diablo 2 to make WOW. They're most likely going to have to redesign alot of it in order to keep alot of distance between the two franchises.
Paladins are probably the frontrunner to be cut after what happened to them in WOW

It's funny how everyone had their favorite class in D2, but only the necromancers were rabid about their love for having hordes of minions following them.
On that note, if I can't have a huge army of whatevers following me around massacring everything in sight I'm going to have to go back to my staple sorc love.

I thought the point of a sequel was that the identity of it is already somewhat established by the fact that it's a sequel of something. I don't have much of a stake in it either way so long as the game is as fun as the first two in the series.
As for the next class I'm betting the Amazon has been replaced by the Rainbowazon.

Paladins are probably the frontrunner to be cut after what happened to them in WOWI disagree. The Paladins in DII were much diferent than the ones in WoW and is one of the best implementations of that type of clas in any game. Paladins can also be male or female.
I think the changed class is going to be the Amazon. We will get a new ranged class and the thing that he is saying will piss allot of people of is the switch from bows to guns. Did we see any bows in the released videos?

Another thing that really just doesn't make sense is this. We gamers hate on EA and all the other sequel factories easy money publishers/developers/companies. Then a company who has always made sure their product is top notch says they want to ensure distinction from previous iterations. They get shit on for it?
Some people can just never be happy. These people need to smoke some weed because let's be serious here. What the fuck do you know?

I could swear that i saw a bow drop in that first demo playthrough. However, i might be imagining things.
I'm expecting the next class announced to be a ranged one. Probably more similar to a Rogue from the first game than the amazon.
I'm still holding out for another Assassin type character, i loved the charge-up skills.

I agree with you on that point; the game does need to appeal to its audience.
At the same time, menage is right; it's Blizzard's game, and they can make it however they damn well please. If all game-making decisions were made based off of mass appeal...well, things would be rather dull, wouldn't they?
I absolutely adored D2's version of the Druid: I had a beastly Werewolf Druid on Closed B.net. I spent the better part of a summer building him and got up into the late 80's/early 90's before I finally got tired, gave away all of my stuff and let the character get deleted. Every time my friends and I decide to revisit the game, I always end up gravitating back to the Druid; it's just my class in that game.
As much as I love the class, I'm not going to be upset if it doesn't find its way into D3. Sure, I'll be a bit disappointed...but it's a new game and I'll find new favorites.
It's Blizzard's game and vision; they're going to run with it as they see fit...and frankly, I'm willing to just stand by and let it happen.
