The Escapist Issue #16 (http://www.escapistmagazine.com/issue/16) is now online. Gaming is more than a garage industry in todays world. They take a look at how the flow of goods and services in modern commerce affects the gaming scene in this week's issue of The Escapist: Import/Export.

Included in this issue is Allen Varney's Serious Cro (http://www.escapistmagazine.com/issue/16/3), looking at Croteam's success, Mark Wallace's Balancing Act (http://www.escapistmagazine.com/issue/16/9) looking at Gold Farming in MMORPG's and Spanner's Console Clones (http://www.escapistmagazine.com/issue/16/17), looking at console gaming in South America.

I just started reading The Escapist last week, and I enjoyed it quite a bit. They have a very interesting story about Richard Garriott and Electronic Arts acquisition of Origin. I wasnt sure how I stumbled on it, must have been through here. Thanks for the link.

The Escapist is great.

No one else does what they do, even though a few others try. The wannabes are just too polemical.

With regard to their piece lambasting Trip Hawkins - that was a little too harsh. I really like his response to the piece.

That was a pretty calm and reasonable response for Trip.

I'm proud of him.

I love The Escapist. I have all the issues on my little USB drive in PDF format as we don't have the net at work (nothing like being just outside of any available high-speed access points). Whenever I have a free moment I connect my drive and read an article or two. I've had several people wander by and think that we somehow had the internet again, only to be horribly crushed when I explained that it's 'just' a gaming magazine.

That said, I did get a couple non-gamer coworkers interested in some of the articles as they're not just the usual hype mongers that most game mags, print or otherwise, have become.
