View Full Version : Four More Halos on the Way?

Talking to Game Industry (http://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/phil-spencer-part-one), Phil Spencer confirmed that there's not one (Halo Wars), not two (Peter Jackson Project), but at least four teams working on Halo projects.

Well, there's more than one team building Halo games right now. There are more than two or three teams building Halo things right now. Some of them we will own, some of them we won't.

Read, that doesn't mean Master Chief projects. The Halo universe is pretty rich with lore, so branching out (like Halo Wars) could be a good thing. Then again it might not. Guess we'll see.

I seriously enjoyed the trilogy and am curious about Halo Wars (despite my inability to play anything RTS), but I really don't want to become flooded with Halo titles. While I agree that the universe does have a rich amount of lore to pull from - which I really dig - that doesn't mean I want a ridiculous amount of titles from that universe in what could translate to yearly.

I mean, that's one of the reason I don't really play the Madden games. At least CoD lets me know that I can steer clear of the odd ones.

There's also the rumor of Ryan Payton (http://kotaku.com/5050561/new-halo-helmed-by-mgs4-producer) leading the new Halo project. Kinda makes me wish I was into Halo.

1. Halo Wars
2. Peter Jackson Halo Project
3. Delayed Halo Announcement (Is this the big MP update?)
4. Halo 4 prelim work?

Sounds about right.

Cool, if one or all turns out to be bad, no loss. Its not my money on the hook and I dont have to buy it, If one or all turn out good, well then Im a happy man.

I'm also confused as to how they don't own a game they own the IP to.[/I]
Perhaps they licensed out the universe to someone else for a game? Nintendo didn't own Hotel Mario, Link: The Faces of Evil or Zelda: The Wand of Gamelon. Nor would they want to.

Rumors are he is on the Peter Jackson project. Word also is that Bungie's announcement may be next week in Europe at some MS sponsored event. Don't know why they wouldn't announce it here in the States.

The Halo announcement was supposed to be part of a one-two punch with the news of the UK/EU Xbox 360 price cut. Microsoft is focusing more and more on Europe these days as that's their identified battleground.

I think his quote is misread. I think he means that of the games there are some developers they own (Ensemble and I believe the Jackson development group is a division of Microsoft Games Studio) and some they don't (rumored Gearbox). They own the Halo license, there is no doubt about that...universe and all.

Maybe this is all somehow related to the nixing of the Bungie announcement at E3.

Microsoft pulled the plug on the announcement for a later date. There was pretty much no doubt there would be something unloaded about Bungie's thing before the end of this year.

I'm really stoked for Halo Wars, which looks pretty awesome from what I've seen so far. Just hope the other 3 or whatever do the series justice and aren't just cash-in jobs.

Right. I'm assuming it was this mystical fourth title.

Please MS bring on the Halo MMO!!! It would rock with a good sci fi mmo fps with a mix of Planetside and EVE Online thrown in as well. That would be a BIG seller imo.

One of the Halo titles is being worked on by the guy that was co-producer for MGS4 and is credited for modernizing the controls/gameplay. Thats promising.

I could totally do with some new halo themed items to look at .. Halo Wars can't come soon enough... and they should finally produce the movie.. we know it can be done and done well...

The "not owned" one could also be Bungie and not Gearbox

So, Gearbox Halo, Peter Halo, Dead studio Halo, and Halo 4? That's 1 a year till 2011, with Halo 4 launching then as a launch title for TEH L337 Box 9 infinities.

I think you might be right, so I pulled that out of the post. But it's wierd, since the original question was refering to owning the IP to the Ages franchise and continuing those games. Probably one of those things that didn't translate to text well.

Forget that jazz!

Halo vs. Capcom: New Covenant

I would buy Halo vs Marvel in a heartbeat, no joke (continuity be damned).

As with all things, its too early to get angry or excited. A good game is a good game to me. Doesn't matter the universe, it matters if I will have fun playing it.

If this is ever proven true, then the Peter Jackson Halo project just got legitimized. Ryan Payton is one of those guys that could bring a lot of interesting ideas to the Halo series, due to his experience in game development in the US and Japan.

He's a good guy. Before the release of MGS4 he was doing regular rounds. A definite asset to any project.

Hopefully no more actual Halo FPS games unless they decide to actually make it good. I WOULD be interested in seeing a Halo movie, though. TV series? Nah...

I wonder if all these will be 360 projects. I could see them trying to get something in the process for the next system. A Halo at launch is what they need.
