I'm actually surprised at the staying power of the House Bunny.
I thought it would have disappeared already.

I'm still excited about seeing it, even though people keep saying "it wasn't as funny as I thought it would be"...to each their own I guess.

You couldn't pay me enough to go see a Tyler Perry movie yet every one of them is successful. Its amazing to me that people dig his movies. To each his own I guess. That dude must have a ton of dough as I hear he finances his own movies now.

I've never heard of him...

I've never heard of him...

That's just not possible. ;)

I was just telling someone the other day how he has his name plastered first, and foremost on every project he does. Ego much? Or what?

Hell, I see ads on TV all the time for "Tyler Perry's House of Payne"...and the ads are him talking about the show...I know he's the creator...but he isn't even in the show, so why does he feel the need to pimp himself out so much?

Never underestimate the adolescent need to fill ones mine with garbage. I can't exactly protest hot young women, but I can protest the idea that something based on something so stupid is making any money at all.

Tyler Perry is a one-man goldmine among African-Americans. That's why his movies make money and he keeps sticking his name on film and television. He owns 100% of his films, while Lions Gate distributes.

His first film, Diary of a Mad Black Woman, was made for $5.5 million and grossed $50.6 million. His films consistently open in the top 5. That's about all distributors and financers need to see.

Wow, well, seeing as how I ignore all of TV culture and mass music culture in favor of video games, books, and weird electro music.... maybe I am living under a rock, but I seriously have never heard of Tyler Perry. In fact, only last week did I watch my first "reality" TV show, one of those singing and be judged farces. I ignore these things like I ignore MMOs. I must be a really big freak.

Did Dark Knight ever break that record it was going for?

It's currently sitting in 2nd all time behind Titanic.

Yeah, seriously. It makes me so angry that he does that. And it makes me even angrier that people actually pay money to watch his movies. Well, the fact that Burn After Reading beat it out gives me some hope in the world.

Also, as an aside, I didn't know that 50 Cent (on IMDb, he's actually listed as that) was in Righteous Kill until last weekend. I actually think it was a good move that his name isn't all over that movie. I'd be less likely to see it if that were the case.

How much further to go? Unless it's really close I can't really see it happening at this point.

It's way behind Titantic, around $100 million or so. It's not going to pass it.

More than likely a movie will pass Titanic eventually, as box office tickets continue to go up in price. However, nothing will ever surpass it for inflation-adjusted gross, although when you adjust for inflation even Titanic isn't #1.

Well, that's a little different. 50 cent is a big name, to be sure.
But when you have Robert DeNiro, Al Pacino, and 50 cent..which two do you think are the bigger names? ;)

On yet another side note, I've been seeing lots of TV ads for the Forbidden Kingdom DVD. Unlike when it was coming to theaters, they actually mention and show the white kid a few times. I always found it funny that they seemed to go out of their way to hide that bit of info the first time around for the theater run.

Which I thought begged the question...if you realize it's an unnecessary add-in for a movie that would have been epic solely with just having Jackie Chan and Jet Li in a movie together...why the hell did they add the kid into the story to begin with? :p

Oh, yeah, it was just a completely unrelated comment. Had nothing to do with the Tyler Perry thing... I was just mentioning it because I thought it was interesting.

I guess they were trying to Americanize it or something? Make it more accessible to American audiences? Honestly, I'd actually be more likely to watch it if it didn't have that kid (the kid from Sky High, I think) in it.

Actually, it was a good point. A fair reason he isn't being played up is just because they have bigger cash-cow names involved. That's all I was saying.
And when it comes to marketing, what else matters? (to them)

I know him as the kid from Will & Grace. That's the only place I've seen him before.

It's a shame, because Anna Faris is actually quite funny IMO.

Yes, far and away. Although I've seen different numbers depending on the source.

I simply want to watch this for the simple fact to remind myself that Brad Pitt was once an actor and still is before he did mr. and mrs and oceans which I still can't believe had 3 iterations. wtf.

Then they failed. I was all set to see it in the theater, I saved it for a renter specifically because they hid that information from me. I'm all about martial arts movies (just check my username) and their inclusion of something completely pointless for that kind of movie turned me away.
I don't want to see time-traveling white kids who can't fight in my martial arts movies. :p

Very much so like Shia Le whatever in transformers. He's a character for every young male kid to relate to. That's marketing combined with story writing. It expands the demographic. Every kid wants to be that kid crap.

Marketers are heartless and leech off of good ideas to hit as much potential demographic as possible to maximize revenue. It's how the world works. I hate to go on a rant but the effect of infecting the masses minds in the name of success and profit is a sad realization we will have to wake up to that only the old realize.
