Hot on the heels of the news that the game received a price (http://www.evilavatar.com/forums/showthread.php?t=63913), we now finally have a date for WipEout HD straight from the PlayStation Blog (http://blog.us.playstation.com/2008/09/15/wipeout-hd-officially-dated-priced/): September 25th. A list of some of the game's features:
Full HD Visuals
5 Game Modes - Single Race, Tournament, Time Trial, Speed Lap and Zone Mode
Online play that supports up to 8 racers competing on a track at a time
2-player split screen (horizontally and vertically) offline
8 reversible tracks and 12 teams
Optional use of SIXAXIS motion controls to steer your ship
A great soundtrack remixed in Dolby 5.1 AND the option for custom playlists that allow you to race to whatever playlists you have on your HDD
And more, including Trophy support
Sweet, this one's been in the oven for a while. 10 more days!

Eurogamer (http://www.eurogamer.net/article.php?article_id=238638&page=2) has a review up, 9/10.

Eurogamer gave it a 9.

I really want it, but the trailer made my head spin with it's hyper visuals. No chance for a demo? It's cheap though I heard.

Currently the only reason for me to own a PS3. But then suddenly a $20 game would become a $420 game, and that's before taxes and extended warranty. It can wait. It's not like it's going anywhere :)

Woohoo! I've been waiting for this baby for a while. Definitely gonna pick this one up as soon as it's released, assuming the servers can handle the load. I've only had a PS3 for about a month now, so I've never been around for a huge PSN release.

I played this at PAX and did not care for it. Buyer beware. I did not like the graphics, and the controls were unresponsive.

For 20 bucks this sounds like a great value. They probably could have gotten away with asking 40 for it honestly. I can't wait. Glad the release is so close!

Reading all these news about Wipeout makes me want to see a remake of Rollcage, which I had way more fun with.

YES. I thought I was the only person on the planet that played Rollcage. It was fun as hell, and really impressive in terms of the engine for a PS One game. I gotta figure out what bin under the stairs my copy of that is in now.... thanks a LOT...

Doh. My kids got grabbed the PS3 one day and inserted a CD. I now have Laurie Berkner Band on my playlist.

5-4-3-2-1 Blast Off! Another rocketship run!

Rollcage is quite possibly the only game where you can break the sound barrier while riding on the ceiling. I miss you baby.

I miss the even older Psygnosis, before they were doing crappy PS1 games for Sony. Amiga 500 was Psygnosis glory day.

Rollcage Stage 2 on the PC was rather excellent in its day.

Well I hope you like it, but that's how I felt about it. I was expecting to like it, but did not.

Sorry, I was a PC gamer exclusively during the entire PS1 era, so I don't know what you're talking about. If they made a good game, great, but to me Psygnosis died with the Amiga. I only bought my first PS1 games this year for the PS3. Of course, one of those had to be Lemmings, but only because I loved it on Amiga.

So you were calling the games crappy without having played them? Ok.....

I'd kill for a PS3 Colony Wars sequel. Great games, all three.

I was just giving you crap, because that's just what we do here. Say something bad about Hotel Dusk on the DS and you'll see what I mean!

I didn't know there was a PC Rollcage game. I'll have to look for that now.

As for Wipeout HD, my complaints about the PAX demo are that the controls felt TOO responsive. You'd tilt the stick a tiny bit and the ship would corner very sharply, so I was hitting the inside wall of almost every curve on the first lap. I think this is because the demo was running on the slowest possible difficulty, which is slower than even the older games. Later on when the speeds pick up, though, I can see this being more of a blessing than a curse that things are that responsive. I think if they'd set up the demo to run on the higher difficulty classes (but not the insane shit that makes up the last 30% of any Wipeout game), it would have had a more positive effect on people. Additionally, I believe the model TV they use on those smaller demo kiosks only has a native resolution of 720p... not good for showing off the games that actually take advantage of sony's "1080p powerhouse."
