Straight from Criterion's website (http://www.criteriongames.com/article.php?artID=346) comes word that next week we'll see the release of their next free download pack, this one including the much anticpated addition of motorcycles. For a recap of exactly what we'll be seeing in the update:
Pick from 2 motorcycles featuring male or female characters and start on a whole new progression to earn your Bike License.
38 new against-the-clock race events – Burning Ride and Midnight Ride.
A brand new in-game 24 hr day / night cycle that impacts traffic density and available events. (It's fully customisable – you can make it day/night/change the clock speed – it's up to you.)
Dynamic weather brings an all-new look to Paradise City
And if that's not enough, we've got 70 more Freeburn Challenges too
You've really got to love the way they've supported this game with some pretty damn substantial pieces of free DLC.

And remember, this is an EA title. I wonder how the control for DLC pricing really works.

What's the cost or have I missed it at some point?

The game can be picked up near the $30 range. All the updates are FREE!

For some reason I thought the bike one had a dollar amount to it or is there another future one that does? Seriously, I remember price being talked about for at least one of these updates.

I thought that was this one too, but I guess that's the next update. I know they did mention one was going to have a charge associated with it.

It might look like this:
EA: Our DLC content for Burnout will be free
MS: Well, that doesn't fit in with our policy...
EA: Unless you want to see the next Burnout to be a PS3 exclusive...
MS: Free content is such a benefit to our XBL customers
EA is big...and they use their size to their advantage...sometimes that is a good thing...

The final update (coincides with the PC release) will probably contain a charge. It's rather big - the addition of a brand new island.
Phhhh

I would totally buy it if they charged. But I think they won't want to segment their market. I wonder how that will work if they do charge for the "islands" expansion.

Yeah...I would see it like that, but I would also see EA as the one wanting to make money from it. But, EA has been changing.

I can't wait. It must be the billboard sales or something that makes it financially possible for them to do this.
That's the first I've heard of a non-free update. Where did you guys see that?
And what's this about the motorcycles not crashing?

Hmm... from their previous post I get the ominous impression that nighttime will only work with bikes. Can that be true?
Phhhh

I'm pretty sure it would say Bikes only next to it if it did.
I'm sure the night cycle works regardless.
As for the bikes not crashing. I'm not sure what they do, you can wreck, but you just might not see it.

Its interesting to see other EA games go the nickel/dime route. I wonder if this is their attempt to test the Valve methodology of sustaining sales by free content vs trying to keep a core group satisfied and charging them.

I just went and purchased this as well. I would be curious to see their sales charts for this month and the next after the update and see how they do.
This is the way games should be maintained after they release. Updates, fixes, addons and FREE!

I'll actually play Burnout: Paradise once this update hits. Knew I held onto it for a reason!
