The Witcher: Enhanced Edition includes a bundle of improvements and new content, including two new adventures, more than 200 new animations, faster loading times and much more. The game is also packed with bonus items, including two music CDs, making-of videos, an official game guide and a map of The Witcher’s world. Additionally, the ability to use any combination of localized voiceovers and subtitles allows for greater customization.

“We’re thrilled to release The Witcher: Enhanced Edition on Impulse,” said Adam Kicinski, CEO of CD Projekt RED. “Stardock’s values fit well in line with our own; keeping gamers happy is one of our main goals, and The Witcher: Enhanced Edition is the ultimate fan service. We took all of the fan feedback about the original game and used it to improve the game in a huge number of ways. We hope that this allows us to expose the game to new audiences and old friends alike.”

Based on the universe created by best-selling Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski, The Witcher puts players in the role of Geralt, a professional monster slayer who exists on the fringes of a complex society in a fantasy universe. Taken as a child, mutated, and trained in the arcane ways of the witchers, Geralt is a reluctant hero, who nonetheless finds himself all too frequently in the heat of battles that are not his own. In this world there is no right or wrong, only decisions and consequences. The Witcher has already garnered worldwide success, having sold over 800,000 copies, and has received more than 90 awards and distinctions, including the prestigious "Best PC RPG of 2007" from IGN.com, Gamespy.com, PC Gamer and more (for the full list of awards, please visit http://www.thewitcher.com/community/pl/awards/).
I know there are one or two people here who have been eagerly anticipating this.

While I'm a fan of both Stardock and The Witcher, I think I'd quite like to get the boxed edition with all the goodies. Hell, even the basic version of the original came in a nice cardboard sleeve.

I only played the first few minutes of this game. I then heard about the patch coming out, so I decided to put the box back on the shelf, play some of my other backlogs, and eagerly await this day that is rapidly approaching :)

Don't current owners get to DL the patch for free? I'm looking forward to playing through the game again.

It was announced in March that it would be on Steam, I guess that's not going to happen.

The Witcher was such a good game, it's a shame I couldn't get past the dog monster part due to graphical glitches. I haven't read up on what their fixes are going to be, any chance this might fix these issues for me?

I picked up the international (uncut) version last week in anticipation of the Enhanced Edition patch. I've never played Witcher, so I am looking forward to the patch to ensure everything kicks ass in it.

That's a shame if it doesn't. Through Steam it almost certainly would've ended up on my hard drive eventually, but I'm not sure I want to dip into yet ANOTHER digital distributor's collection.

I've got games from Direct2Drive, from EA's download service, from Greenhouse Games (bought PA:Adventures Episode 1 before they announced it would hit Steam)... and honestly, I just wish they were all on Steam. It's always running on my machine, it's got built-in community features, it auto-patches, it lets me download my games anywhere; it's basically X-Box Live for Windows.

I may still get the boxed version at some point, though. It looks like a fun game.

I won a copy in a give away and have been waiting for this before playing the game... (Thanks Whimbrel, btw! -- at least I think it was you... someone with a W name.)

From the official forums:

You bought The Witcher last year and now you’re afraid that you won’t have the opportunity to enjoy all the features of the Enhanced Edition? WRONG!

Wipe away your tears, little one, because we’ve got a nice treat for you. If you bought the original version of The Witcher and registered it at thewitcher.com, you’ll be able to download all of the great content from the Enhanced Edition for free starting September 19!

That’s right – FREE! No strings attached, just good old-fashioned FREE. Log in and download.

You may be wondering – “What do they mean by ‘all’ of the content”? This is what we mean:

- Patch 1.4 (which turns the standard edition into The Witcher: Enhanced Edition)- D’jinni Adventure Editor v1.4- Two new adventures (“The Price of Neutrality” and “Side Effects”)- Making-of videos- ‘Inspired by The Witcher’ music CD- Official soundtrack of the game- Game manual- Official game guide- Map of The Witcher’s World

You may notice that “all” in this case doesn’t include the short story that is found in the retail version… unfortunately getting that released online would be some sort of massive undertaking involving numerous book publishers around the world. So it’s almost everything.

Pretty impressive, isn’t it? So, let me suggest you that visiting www.thewitcher.com should be – no, more than that - it must be the very first thing you do on the 19th of September!

Know-how to installation of Enhanced Edition
1. Download the Patch file (it’s something about 1GB)
2. Download the language file/files (more or less 500 MB)
3. Gather them In one folder
4. Start the installation of the Patch.
5. Enjoy The Enhanced Edition
6. (Optional) Download bonus content & soundtrack

Sweetness. I bought this when I put together my new computer back in April and have been holding off on playing it until the enhanced edition comes out. I guess it's only one more week to go!

I also read in their official release when the announced it that it would be free to people who own the game. I'm hoping to be able to download it as a patch. I too put off playing through the game until the upgrade. Fingers crossed.

Same version as previous. It's just the added content.

From what I understand, the "uncut" version will never see an official US release. You can get it imported from GoGamer, though.

Wait... what?! What the heck is so great about Steam that you'd forego a box, a printed manual, and physical media, not to mention other possible goodies? Are you some kind of anti-clutter freak? Seriously, what makes Steam better than a boxed copy? I assume its not any cheaper and it leaves you open to Valve one day screwing you. Granted Valve is very cool and all, but management changes.

1) I hate clutter.
2) I hate having a CD in the drive.
3) I have *never* *ever* found the goodies to be worth the extra charge. (Caveat - I did pre-order the Fallout 3 CE for the lunch box.)
4) I like being able to just download the damn thing at whichever computer I'm at.
5) I'm likelier to get it cheap on Steam faster than I would in any store.
6) It's just generally more convenient on Steam.
7) Automatic updates that download easily.
8) License/key management handled for me, so I never have to worry about losing them.

Edit:
Honestly, I don't understand people's attachment to physical media.

Maybe it's because I work as a backup/storage admin, I've sort of grown beyond having to see some item and know said item is where the data is. As long as I know I have some way to get the data should I need it, I'm happy.

This is really tempting, especially since I have a coupon for 20% off any game from Stardock. I could use it after the 15th and save money on the game, or I could order the Uncut edition from GoGamer. Does anyone know if the Uncut edition is really worth it? Was there that much taken out?

Grifter

I played the uncut version from beginning to end and loved every second of it, I can't wait for all the new content.

@Mags, mostly just tittie cards and a little in game nudity. With all the new dialogue in the enhanced edition you should be fine with the US version... unless you like collecting digital Tarot Cards with naked women on them(as apposed to partially dressed women).

I will be getting this as soon as I finish up Divine Divinity, which may be a while. I have been in the mood for some crpg goodness though, and DD delivers. The Witcher should be just as good if not better from what I have heard.

Speaking of DD, I wish I could have finished that game. I spent hours upon hours playing and loving it, only to have a bug crash the game and erase my save in the final dungeon. I didn't have to heart to start over.

A local game store had it marked down to nothing. Must have found a copy under a cabinet or something. You can get it at Amazon though.

I think it's cool that the game is on both Steam AND Stardock.

It is good for multiple online stores that do not suck to exist, as that way... they can compete with each other!

Magnanimous Gnome
09-13-2008, 08:22 PM
Agreed. As long as we don't see a whole lot of "exclusive" titles, I see the competition as a good thing. Obviously each service is going to have some exclusives, such as Stardock and Valve's own titles, but hopefully things don't get too crazy. Maybe this competition will lead to more features and lower prices (haha) for all of us!
