Today X-Universe #20 (http://www.egosoft.com/x/xnews/200510_44News.html) was sent out, and along with it, news that X3: Reunion has gone gold (http://www.deepsilver.de/967.html?rid=451677984607543488829490) and X2 for Linux is in beta.

Well, so much has happened since our last newsletter back in the summer. Mac users were introduced to the X-Universe and are now to be followed by a flock of penguins as X2: The Threat goes into beta testing for Linux. Speaking of beta testing, there has been quite a lot going on for X3 in the past few months, enough in fact to result on a nice gold disc being sent to the worldwide publishers on both CD and DVD. Phew! Lets look at all the news in some more detail.

Three things:

1) It went Gold almost a week ago
2) There's no release date for the U.S., but a guy by the name of The_Abyss in the official forums is supposed to announce it as soon as he gets it
3) The game is shipping throughout Europe starting on Oct. 28

Oh, and the first and third items mentioned above are obvious if you check out the Reunion link in the original post (not that it matters, but just pointing it out), the second item actually required a few minutes of forum scavenging. I'll go get the thread so that you all can monitor it (which matters because EgoSoft is reluctant to post the date).

Edit: Actually, you can probably just monitor his posts by clicking here (http://www.egosoft.com/x2/forum/search.php?search_author=The_Abyss) and check back from time to time to see if he posts it up.

Thanks for the link A-Team. Now it should be easier to keep track of that.

Oh, and since I haven't seen it here yet, Egosoft axed the X-box version. I really don't care about that since I was going to get it on PC anyways, but someone might.

I imagine a console version would be tough to port. I just hope in 3 they do something about the insane menu system. It would be the single hardest part of making a console version, imo.

It seems that Egosoft (http://www.egosoft.com/shop/), Amazon (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B000APK4FQ/qid=1130117518/sr=8-1/ref=pd_bbs_1/002-2392658-5405646?v=glance&s=videogames&n=507846) and EBGames (http://www.ebgames.com/ebx/product/258814.asp) all have release dates around the 26th-28th.

If you bothered to visit the link I posted two posts up, you'd see that the retailer dates mean absolutely nothing, which should be nothing new to anyone.

Anyone who has been following the game anyhow...

iI'm the first to believe that retail dates are almost never reliable, but when 3 (including Egosoft's own site) give a similiar date, it seems like it would be fairly likely. But who knows, well, I guess we'll find out this weekend whether any of those dates are correct. :)

I remember when FFX got to stores two weeks earlier than published release dates. One of the few instances when I was glad the date was wrong. :)

Second off the last 6 games I bought came out on the published release date so stop acting like a condescending know it all prick.

Whoa, I'm not the one with the attitude problem there bud-ro. I was merely hard at work studying for an exam, tossed up a quick remark, and went on my way. Obviously Sazime wasn't offended, so why are you?

C'mon man! Classic lingo! I think I herd in a movie once, but not too sure, "You betta check yo self befo you re-wreck yo self." That's right, slread wrecked, then the possibility to be wrecked again! Trouble'n indeed.

Pardon my N00biness, but what is this game about, other than it's the 21st century Elite reincarnation?

It's a flight sim/trade/combat/etc. It was pretty tough for me to handle when I first played it, but I really got into it. Building space stations, mining colonies. Very cool stuff. can be difficult though. The Egosoft website (http://www.egosoft.com/news/current_en.php) has a ton more info on the game. There is a demo (http://www.egosoft.com/download/x2/demos_en.php) as well.

I heard they killed a lot of the Newtonian pyhsics in game so it would be easier to fly and fight. I can't say thats much of an improvement, but thats me. i kinda liked it that if you went full burn for awhile, you weren't going to stop on a dime and turn around, you had to drift in that direction for a bit until your retro-rockers slowed you down.

I think I'm going to have to hit this up, I was really tempted by X2, but X3 was already quite far down the track when I was looking at getting it so I just held off.
