The web has been buzzing about it, the industry has been raving about it, and now, the Voodoo Envy 133 has begun shipping to customers. The ultra-thin notebook, noted for its carbon-fiber casing, instant-on capabilities, and the wireless hub built into its power brick, has attracted significant attention since its unveiling in June.

Sweet. Makes me wish I hadn't just purchased a laptop. Systems range from $2099 up to $3399.

I assume that it is somehow related to Ghostwriter (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ghostwriter_(TV_series)).

Solid State Drive is the sex. Glad to see more of these making it onto the market. Been eyeing up the Lenovo X300 myself, looks like this has almost identical specs, probably Santa Rosa layout with X3100 and SSD is some new standard.

Edit: Hrm, there's some Voodoo IOS (Instant On) thing, I'll have to read into that....

Edit Edit: Very nice trade on/offs for this type of laptop, only 2 things.

#1 Weird (and probably just something overlooked) the "Bigfoot Networks K1 Killer Gaming NIC Card" is an accessory. I'd like to see them fit that in the laptop. ;)

#2 No 6-cell battery option I can find, only extra 3-cell ones. For me, 6 cell is a must, it's a low-power laptop for a reason, let me run it for a really long time please!

hmm with that kind of price might as well get an macbook which is similarly specced.

yah but the video card in a macbook is equivalant to what in the gaming world? Or is this things appeal not for gamers?

hrm i should really read TFA next time. I see, this is more of a "look how small and slick my laptop is" rather than a screamin' gaming box. My bad :)

I actually am a mac hater, and i apologize for my first statement, but that said, the macbook pro from a hardware perspective has a very nice form factor. If it just had 2 mouse buttons i would consider buying one to run windows/linux on :)

umm this Voodoo Envy133 has worse graphics card (intel!) than macbook pro which has nvidia 8600m

I HATE Macs, and I came here specifically to complain about how this compares to an Apple Laptop, dollars to features.

As an expert on nothing and everything at the same time, I'm sure everyone here values your opinion well above their own.

i looked at some pics from that "in the wild" thread...thing is pretty secksi...

I definitely like the paintjob options that they have. Looks like high quality automotive paint jobs...and a good variety. *thumbs up*

Now if they had one that came w/ a proper video card, I'd consider it ;)

I was thinking that same thing. The system is dead sexy, but for $2000+ you would think it would come with a GeForce 8600 or better. My $950 HP comes with an 8600.

I would need to see one in person to see just how small the footprint is and if that makes up for it.

Due to the fact that my post, which was issued merely in agreement with sentiment already expressed, was echoed in subsequent opinions I have sound reasons for my belief that people will recognize my words as being a voice amongst voices that find this product undervalued.

And do not fret, dearest Evil, you have to be expert on something.

Oh my God I just noticed the smilies! :o:):(:p:mad::confused:;):D:rolleyes::eek::cool:

Macbooks weigh more and have way less battery life. SSD is a big deal. Expect Apple to start including them soon enough, they'll have to to compete.

They're not in the same class. This is using SSD and has far better battery life and heat management than a Macbook Pro. Things that to the layman may not seem like a big deal, but you should know better. SSD is also largely the cause of the price point right now, expect it to continue to fall (while Macbooks stay where they are).

Also, to your spoiler, Optical drives are on the way out. Wake up and smell the morning.

Bang on, this will be a decent gaming laptop, but it's certainly not designed to scream as one (as the processor/video should show). You can play WoW/The Sims on it just fine, which is what the majority of the market cares about. And it's lightweight, long battery life and sexy as hell.

Edit: As for the Mac hate thing, I don't get that myself. Macbook Pro is a great laptop. To me the Mac/PC debate is becoming less relevant day by day, so I don't know why people continue to drag on it.

See my earlier comment. Even within PC laptops you're looking at different purposes/types/technologies, don't spread FUD.

Um... MacBook Air Much?

And as someone who says this (http://evilavatar.com/forums/showpost.php?p=1486533&postcount=42) I have a hard time entertaining your defense of the Envy or X300 machines...

As for Optical Drives being "on the way out" the complaints here over the MB Air would argue otherwise, unless they are allowed to be "on the way out" for PCs...

Not that I particularly care, this looks like a great computer to many people, I just don't get how Macs get so much shit about price yet these machines don't when they largely still lack the degree of form factor finesse and can't offer the difference in operating system.

One thing I will laud the Envy for having - go to voodoopc.com and check out its form factor. Its beyond being merely gorgeous.

Ya - Voodoo IOS is a wicked. Being able to get online oron Skype in like 15 seconds used to only be dream for a PC user.

And yes- Envy is crazy sexy. Not sure how much they will run you,but they have some examples of crazy custom paint jobs on their Flickr page:
