1UP (http://www.1up.com) has some nice screenshots (http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3144969) of the Female Spartan that will be in Dead or Alive 4 on the XBox 360.
This is pretty cool and all....it just seems so....out of place.

Absolutely out of place. Next thing you know there will be a secret unlockable character and it will be none other than...the car on the cover of Forza.
A better fit, perhaps, would be the main character from Kameo.

HA, does anyone remember Fighters Megamix on the Saturn? It had the Daytona Car as a secret character. That was awesome.

Well, it makes about as much sense as Ryu Hayabusa showing up in the "let's fight the crazy Tengu" tournament. I believe his ninja gaidening took place in the fairly distant future.
It also makes about as much sense as Spawn, Link and...and...the old dude from Tekken showing up in Soul Calibur 2; absolutely none, insofar as the story or in-game explaination is concerned. Really, that doesn't matter. Crossover characters don't have to make sense, because it's just cool that they're in the game in the first place.
I think it's kinda nifty that they tossed in a female Spartan(although it's rather hard to tell at times that it's female...), and it certainly icreased my interest in the game. I'm not planning on getting a 360 anytime soon, but this would be one of the games that would influence my decision.

I have to agree with Chimpbot. But I don't tend to take game universes seriously anyway, they are hokey with or without crossover characters. The Spartan in the game is a kind of cool bonus. I was already contemplating picking up DOA4, but this makes the incentive a little higher. I want to see what kind of crazy CG ending the whipped up for the Spartan.

I thought Heihachi worked fairly well, and there was actually a bit of a story explaining how he came to be in the Soul Calibur universe. Perhaps they will do the same with the Spartan(ette?). Ryu Hayabusa kinda fits too, if not timeline wise, he at least does not look horribly out of place.. so what if he is from the future? I don't think these games need some ultimate explanation why these bonus characters are there anyway. Unless they play some pivotal role in the story of the game, it really does not matter why one can play as a soldier from a couple centuries in the future.

Spawn ad Heihachi weren't TOO out of place is the IC2 aesthetic.

Jesus, it's a fighting game, pink gorillas wouldn't be out of place.

I'm with those that say, c'mon it's DOA what real story is there for the spartan to be out of place in?

Ryu Hyabusa was in the game before Ninja Gaiden.

Come on, Link was cool while Spartan isn't? Typical Xbox hate speaks through you guys.
Funny that noone pointed out the atrocious level geometry and 1999 texturing in the background. Yeah, the models are very nice (lots of polys) and motion blur looks really cool (no PC game has it yet) but look at the floor or at the abysmal scenery.

Ryu Hayabusa was the original Ninja Gaiden back when the games came out in the early 80s. I don't think Dead or Alive was around back then.
Every single fighting franchise does stuff like this, and I think it's pretty cool.

Link fit in Soul Calibur, there were similar style characters with weapons in it....this game is all about martial arts styles in a modern/japanese type setting.

Link didn't fit in SC. Heihachi did. Spawn would have, if they'd used his medieval form.
Link just looked stupid next to SC characters.

Ryu Hyabusa was in the game before Ninja Gaiden.
Go play the old NES Ninja Gaiden games and then try to tell me that. Or, better yet, go play the arcade games that predate the NES releases.
My whole point was this: it doesn't matter if the bonus characters "fit in"; Marvel and Capcom's characters don't fit together at all, yet they had two really fun fighting games come from that bizarre mixture. Spawn didn't really fit in with the SC2 crowd, but he was a great addition to the game. This female Spartan doesn't really fit in with the DOA crowd, but it's great that she's included.

Dude, the Daytona car in Fighter's Megamix was amazingm ever since that game I'm willing to accept any character no matter how out of place they are Fighter's Megamix was so incredibly broken balance wise and still managed to be one of the best fighters I've ever played.

How they're going to pull of the breast physics in MJOLNIR armour I don't know.

Just so nobody gets disappointed when they see it...
The motion blur in DOA4 is only in the "picture mode" where you can view previously taken pictures (assumingly taken while fighting), the picture mode adds motion blur... it sadly isn't present while fighting, so itagaki says.
From the other shots I've seen the backgrounds don't look bad at all -- they aren't spectacular, but they aren't what I'd call abysmal.

I bet with the right butten pressing you can make him to take out his gun and put some holes in the opponent.

For the background, it's from Halo 2, what's it supposed to look like? The other backgrounds are far more detailed with a lot more going on.

I remember how you could make the car burst out of its "armor" (like how the Fighting Vipers characters did it) and it became an even better fighter.
Megamix was so awesome.

DoA plain, straight up, does not have a unified easthetic. It is impossible for this character, or ANY character, to break it. Mortal Kombat has a unified aesthetic. Virtua Fighter has a unified aesthetic. Dead or Alive does not.
Also, I love 'look out into pace' type levels (my favorite UT maps were Facing Worlds and the one where you were on the speeding spaceship,) but Borys is right. The texturing on the ship's interior is terrible, and there' really nothing going on outside the window. Hopefully the map's not done.

Obviously, you people have forgotten that fighting games really don't need story or any semblence of continuity at all.
Look at Tekken, for instance. I can play as a green bear with a pink mohawk against a half-bat half-Jin that shoots lasers out of his eyes. Not to speak of the kangaroo and giant panda...

Oh yeah, and even though it was a bad game, Mace: The Dark Ages had great secret characters like Pojo the Chicken and Ned the Janitor. Weird secret characters have been a staple of many fighting games for years.
