Suprised I didn't see this earlier but annoucements have been compiled into a nice preview about the upcoming PvP MMO, Warhammer Online by Mythic Entertainment. Due to be released in 2007 the first details are begining to come together.

While the name of the game world is not known yet, it has been released that the playable races that will be represented in the game are Humans, High Elves, Dwarves, Dark Elves, Chaos, Orcs and Goblins. It is expected that other races will be brought into the game with expansion packs.Full Story Here (http://www.warhammeralliance.net/index.php?name=News&file=article&sid=6)

Great, they cancelled the Warhammer Online game then gave us a generic MMOG with the Warhammer named tacked on.

Sorry, I know Warhammer has a rich back story, is based of a successful franchise and beloved by all but if I hear about one more mmo set in fantasy world with humans, elves dwarves and orcs I'm going to get my kitchen knife of stabbing + 2 and go visit these unoriginal, derivitive morons and have a "talk" about the future of the genre.

The fantasy setting is to MMOs as WWII is to FPSs.

Well, it has goblins and chaos, which are pretty nonstandard playable races. Pretty nonstandard awesome playable races.

EDIT: It's a real shame they don't have the guts to use the more different races. The Lizardmen could be their own faction. With the skinks (little guys), saurus (normal guys), kroxigor (really big guys), and maybe even Slann (fat magical frogs), combined with a lush jungle environment, they seem like a good choice.

If they capture the unpredicability and.. well.. chaotic nature of the Chaos legions, it could be very interesting.

But with no Skaven or Lizardmen, I think I'll pass.

Now a 40k MMORPG would be great. Striking Scorpions were sorely missing from Dawn of War.

I loved me some Skinks, cute little poisonous bastards.

Hell yeah, Skinks rock!

Plus it's a fun word to say. Skink Skink Skink.

Why the HELL they didn't put the Skaven and/or Lizardmen in the first batch is beyond me.
