Version 81.85 of the NVidia Graphics Drivers are available for download from the NVidia homepage. (http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_2k_81.85.html)

I just upgraded from a 9600pro to a 6600GT. These days I no longer have to worry that the drivers I download might make things worse ;-).

With all recent versions (+78.03), I get a weird problem:

If I click the 'Show Desktop' Icon next to my Start botton while I have some windows open (especially Firefox ones), the PC kind of shows the desktop without icons and freezes for 2-20 seconds.

What's going on?

No idea... Sounds like a bit of a slow down though rather then driver issues. You run any spyware detectors or disk defrag recently?

I know it might be considered a stupid question, but are you uninstalling your drivers before installing the latest?
Bad behavior can carry on otherwise.

Anything after 77 for me causes serious issues with Media Player, and crashes some games - Dawn of War and GTA: SA among them.

I'm wondering if that's going to keep happening or not.

My computer is about 4 years old and I'm running a Ti 4600 (yes, it played both HL2 and Doom 3 "well enough"). As near as I can tell, my driver is version 6.14.10.6693

Question: Would I benefit from upgrading to 81.85 or is my card to old to matter?

On computers that we use the 66.93 drivers caused a lot of problems for some cards, but I don't remember if the Ti 4600 was one of them. Most of the updates since that version have benefitted newer cards so I don't quite see a reason to upgrade unless you see a specific problem with a game.

I haven't had any real issues to date so no update for me then. Which is unfortunate because I would love for it to break and I could justify buying a 6800GT.

My last card was a 440MX (I know. Shut up.) and I got benefits from going from 6693 to the 71 series, so it may well help.

I just upgraded from a 9600pro to a 6600GT. These days I no longer have to worry that the drivers I download might make things worse ;-).

I've never had a problem with my 9600 XT with driver upgrades. Hell, with any card for that matter (I had a 4200 Ti and GTS 2 before this card).

But I can't wait for the new catalyst drivers that have that massive performance increase coming out soon.

These utterly borked my system. XP locked up at the login screen.

I haven't had a single problem with any nvidia drivers until today. I just spent god knows how long with safe mode downloading older drivers and getting rid of these.

These drivers worked fine with the 7800GTX SLI I have at work. In fact, they improved the SLI features (no more rebooting when you turn it on) and the screen doesn't suffer from poor vsync type problems anymore.

The same computer is also dual-core but I don't notice any speed improvements. I guess any improvement is good so I won't complain!

I have a GF6600GT, and I won't be downloading these. I like nVidia drivers, it's just that this ones bring me no advantages. Better keep the older ones that work well. BTW, I use the MSI version of the 7* drivers, it has dynamic OC. They rock.

These broke nhl 06. Everything is extremely sluggish. Hasn't broken anything else that i can tell though
