Nintendo of Canada Ltd. has announced a partnership with FatPort to supply locations across Canada with WiFi service for their Nintendo DS handheld systems.
FatPort, a provider of wired and WiFi Internet access in public locations across Canada, has a list of locations that will serve as 'hotspots' for gamers who want to play their Nintendo DS titles with others across the world. The list for Canadian locations include Mac's convenience stores, Best Western hotels and Seattle's Best coffee cafes. The full list can be found here (http://www.fatport.com/locations/chains.php).

Anyone have any experience of the Fatport service?

I saw this article posted elsewhere recently, but I'll repeat my comments from there. I've never heard of "FatPort", at least not in Toronto (nor any of the places they provide service to, except Boston Pizza, which I've only heard of and never physically even seen).

So everyone in Canada but TrackZero will get to play DS at the hotspots!
I was going to comment about how Nintendo is doing a good job of stepping up their wifi network, but if none of those places are in Toronto...

Not only that but the only places mentioned are in the major centers, like Toronto, Vancouver and Calgary. So if you don't live in a major center you won't be playing WiFi DS either... not that I have ever heard of any of the locations these WiFi spots are going to be (except Boston Pizza and Macs).

Ok, yall need to calm down. This is just a list of free hotspots. And yes, generally there will be more hotspots in larger cities. You didn't know this? You can still play if you live in podunk, Quebec, you will just need to use your own internet connection like a big boy.
I obviously have too much time on my hands but I found the full list of spots.
Best Western, Boston Pizza, Bread Garden, Coast Hotels and Resorts, Comfort Inns, Earls, Holiday Inn, Joey Tomato's, Mac's Convenience Stores, Quality Hotels, Ramada Hotels, Seattle's Best Coffee, White Spot. That is better than America's coverage. We only have one fast food joint so this is looking pretty good for Canada.

Not really, McDonalds is everywhere, every pissant little town has at least one. You can even find them on the side of the high way to get your wi-fi on when you take bathroom breaks during road trips. These other places, not so much.
Nintendo needs to call up Ron Joyce and get a deal to put wi-fi hubs in Tim Hortons, They'd sell DSs by the truckload then.

Dude, if Timmy's got Wi-Fi...I mean, holy shit.

True, but Timmy's also has a 20 minute No Loitering policy. And they usually uphold it after an hour.
Then again, that's only for the young people, not the old farts that get a coffee at 8am and nurse it until lunchtime...

Agreed. That'd be a very smart move.
I looked through the list, there's one place I can see myself going and just hanging out and playing Mario Kart or whatever. It's in a fairly popular part of Calgary and if it's free why not? There's also a good chance I'd see some of my friends.
I'm surprised by all the Earls resturaunts on the list. Like, if you're going there to have dinner do you really have time to pull out your laptop? I dunno, it seems misplaced.
It'd also be cool if they'd add a few more central Mac's locations, since the only one they have listed in Calgary is very out of the way.

I dispute this. Any semi-large town has a McDonald's on every corner, but pissant little towns (at least in Texas) have Dairy Queens instead.

Yeah, Tim Horton's would be the way to go. Personally, I'm enjoying watching Tim Horton's come down from the north and Krispie Kreme sweep up from the south, crushing Dunkin' Donuts between them.

Enjoy it while you can, the Tim Hortons steam roller that is something that can not be stopped. They pushed Krispie Kreme out of Canada and are starting to expand fairly far into the States. I wouldn't be suprised if in a decade or two Tim's is second only to McDonalds in the world wide fast food industry.

Gotta live Timmy's. You Americans better learn to roll up the fucking rim or things could get ugly.
