The features in the next big City of Heroes update (Issue 6: Along Came a Spider) have been revealed. Issue 6 is mostly about making the game compatible with City of Villains and introduces three PVP zones. The update will also add technical features from CoV like 3D Sound and Visual FX Upgrades. Check out the full list of features here (http://rpg.boomtown.net/en_uk/articles/art.view.php?id=9575).

"Sadly all the goodness is offset by the nerf…
The developers at Cryptic Studios have revealed the content of the next big update for City of Heroes: Issue 6 (Along Came a Spider). Issue 6 will open up for the cross-compatibility with City of Villains. "
"Of course there is also the huge Enhancement Diversification change, which in many players view negates all the new content. In short the ED change reduces the percentage you can increase your power with significantly and so tankers can take less damage, blasters can do less damage, healers can heal less etc. This is the most drastic nerfing of powers ever seen in City of Heroes and it follows a string of reduction in power levels that players have endured since the beginning of the year. The question is whether the player base will accept ED this time around, though. If you look at the official thread, it’s now up to 420 pages. However, there was a thread before that, which had more than 300 pages before it was replaced by the new one.
Sadly the developers have settled on the vision that one hero = three minions. However, being a game about superheroes that seems to be plain wrong. Have heroes and Wolverine or Captain America ever been defeated by four regular thugs? Here’s one editor/gamer who hopes that the developers will realise their error and change the game back to what it used to be – fun, fast and with the sense that you were the coolest guy around."
Having 20 character slots just doesn't do it for me in light of the Issue 5 changes and now this Enhancement diversity sillyness.
Also, CoV is currently a LOT slower due to all these graphical enhancements than CoH is with the same amount of characters around. Even if I turn off all the new effects the framerate is still not up to CoH levels. Even if I further decrease character detail, world detail etc. I still can't get it to where it is in CoH with everything set to normal levels. So the whole 'graphical enhancement' thing is nice (Features are great, really gives things a nice visual *POP*), but me along with a lot of current players who do not have high level cards (Me 9800 Pro) aren't going to be able to turn them on to experience them. We won't even be able to get current City of Heroes performance/fidelity out of it.
My system runs HL2 perfectly with all effects on btw, FarCry runs decently and so does Doom 3 (at 800 x 600). Soooo....getting 15-20fps in CoV on average has me a bit puzzled.

Two things:
1. CoV is in beta. I've heard rumors of memory leaks, etc... So you can't judge performance of Issue 6 on a buggy beta (and believe me it's damn buggy).
2. You run Window ME?! Dear God man, why?!
And on the issue of nerfing:
That's total BS. I remember playing CoH when it first came out and fighting massive groups of 30-40 guys with a task force, it was so fun. 3 minions per hero is crap. And if you're a controller past level 20 you can't even do that.

It's ..umm..they went Gold already. Which means that what we have now, is what went Gold. They are supposed to launch in about a week. If there are 'massive' memory leaks then , they have about a week to fix them, and those fixes will need to be put into a patch which Retail owners will need to download when they first start up the game. I don't know if you are referring to my post with your reference to ME, but no I run XP Pro SP2.
We have to see how ED will affect things, but it will definitely slow down the rate at which people level. Also since you don't get much benefit past 3 enhancement slots you remove the differentiation between players who can manage and squeeze out 6 slots of Damage enhancements in certain powers and spend lots of time juggling slots and testing builds, to a point where everyone can throw 3 or 4 slots at something and end up with about 4 or more left over. It basically flattens the playing field whilst making everything a lot more difficult than it was before.

It's a MMOG, they're made to be patched. The disc could just have a text file saying "put game here" on it and an installer that dls the rest off the Internet. In other words it doesn't matter what's on the disc.
