While most likely not coming from a true Madden fan, this Ebay auction (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=8213503379) is a fun read.

Madden NFL 06 continues to prove the theory that the majority of sports gamers are freakin' idiots. This should not come as a shock to anyone in the video game business, as sales of Madden and the decrepit NBA Live series have exceed that of the far superior Sega Sports and 2K Games titles.
He goes on to show a bunch of pictures and explain why he's so mad.

It really is scary to think that we won't see another NFL football game from another company for 15 years.
Thanks Kotaku (http://www.gametab.com/news/396847/) for the link.

Well, Blitz is the best football game of the year, Gamespot says. Who needs the NFL license? Diehards should just play fantasy football. I think losing use of the license has liberated companies like Midway. The NFL would NEVER have allowed stuff like Blitz: The League to be created with their players. The unions would have snapped. Now we get some seriously good football, sans the overpaid pissants in the real world. I say Midway should make other franchises in MLB, NBA, etc. A steriods-laden Slugfest league would be fucking killer.

Go Midway. They have only been pleasing me this round. Shadow Hearts, Psi-Ops, Blitz...you go, guys.

I have heard very good things about Blitz, so I bought it, going to play it in 10 minutes. Even heard the running game is more realistic in Blitz than in Madden. Specifically the run blocking. Go figure.

However, Blitz is a different game and does not fill the void left by the 2k football games.

Well? How the fuck is it?

I'll be trying this out this weekend. I love drama, and the extra curricular activities in Blitz sound intriguing.

Madden 2006 is a decent game and Madden 2007 next gen will stop all the doubters.

I do believe Madden 2006 next gen will not be that much of an improvment over the currently released 2006 versions.

People dont understand that the engine that 2006 is on is outdated and is basically a souped up 2001 (or whatever the first ps2 version was). They are making a totally new engine with new sim effects for 2007. And EA's superstar mode and franchise mode is so amazing I cant wait to see all the improvements that occur with the full year prep.

Oh yeah, also the ESPN license and presentation. Seriously, stop. The whining is getting old.

(Unless you own the PSP version, then whine away because it sucks)

Wow, having never played the football series I had realized the extent that EA has soaked up their monopoly...
Those screen shot comparisons tell a lot.

I suck at consoles, it's going to take me longer to figure it out :). Just played through a rushing tutorial, which was pretty straightforward and simple. Control is nice and tight.

Graphics are far from what makes Madden suck. It's been the same since the 2000 or 2001 version.

I'm sorry, I like playing football. Does that offend you? That a football fan plays a football game?

2k5 had its flaws too. I own both 2k5 and Madden2006. I am playing Madden now for its franchise mode, but 2k5 has the better running game. Madden has the better passing game. The graphics dont matter that much to me, because they are using an aged system because 2007 is taking most of their graphics and programmers time.

Yes, please stop whining that you're paying $50 every year for a game made on a 2001 engine.

No shit. Paying each year for updated rosters is moronic. I bought Gameday '99, (back when 989 consitently kicked Madden's ass) and I think that was the first football game I bought that wasnt Madden...and I havent bought a Madden game since. I bought a Dreamcast a little after launch and fell in love with NFL 2k and the subsequent sequels. Madden is usually just an ordinary football game wrapped in a namebrand; other developers have done much better over the years. One of the earlier PS Gamedays even caused Madden to take a year off because it had one-upped them in every category...remember that? Then Take 2 starts beating on them and suddenly they shell out millions to have a monopoly on the license, stopping competition. Funny, huh?

And Taco, Blitz has a tutorial mode? That's pretty friggin' nifty.

Yeah.

Rushing
Passing
Receiving
Defense

Pretty basic, but covers the functionality.

So, do you think nobody will bid on this out of pure shame? I mean, if I had an X-Box, I'd at least put $3 down on this puppy.

I'm going to have to go ahead and disagree with you on the superstar mode. It is the lamest feature I've ever seen in a sports game.

And now that EA has the license, this quote might still be applicable in 2020.

It may look prettier, but why not still use a newer engine? Who's there to compete?

EA bought rights to the NFL for 5 years, they bought rights to the ESPN name for 15. So in 5 more years you may see other people making NFL games, unless EA can renew the agreement. However if this continues the NFL won't renew and may even make changes to the current agreement.

Do you think Jack has even seen videos of Blitz? I don't even think he's played Grand Theft Auto, yet he has staged an all out war on Rockstar. It's like hating Halo without having ever played it; he's a moron who likes to scare people unjustly. He knows nothing about the game industry, yet is regarded as a professional insider by mainstream media.

You can play GTA and never kill a cop (well, besides the crooked ones in the storyline). The drugs in Blitz are like powerups, but have repercussions just like in real life. The NFL would never want this shit in their games because they would rather keep the wool over our eyes, like the MLB has for the last decade or so.

Yay for Jack talking on CNN about things he knows absolutely nothing about...

This ebay auction became less cool when the guy put the game on a regular auction and is trying to drive the price up now. I suppose with attention comes greed.

Speaking of which, I need to donate to EA after payday...

I think this guy is right on, the point of the matter is you have free will. If you wanted to buy a crappier video game and pay more for it just because it was what all your favorite hip hop idols do you could. Or you could buy the superior 2k game. It was your choice, and now there is no choice. Thats where the outrage comes Madden fanboys. That is why we hate EA, and thats why we are angry. Imagine if 2k bought the rights to the NFL, wouldn't you be mad? Well before you played the game, and realized it a more realistic game.
Same thing goes for NHL NBA and MLB. 2k seems to be more intrested in developing the realism, and not the fun. Everyone of them has lower scoring more difficult, and more true to the game, games. I am sick to death of arguing this point to people who did not even try all the games. I worked the EB and found that Madden users are only intrested in playing two games, Madden and GTA. They are not hardcore gamers, they are gamers. What will the hardcores do for their football needs?
You also know that EA is going to extend the deal, just like Directv did. You will never see Visual Concepts put out another NFL game. I will survive though because the way more realistic NHL game still is free market. The American way.

EA hates freedom.
If you play Madden, you support terrorism.

PS: NHL 94 is the best sports game (we have SNES version)

PPS: 'Stros won

Itīs funny, because heīs right, Madden doesnīt look quite right compared to the excellent art direction in NFL2k5. Not to talk about the Presentation and sound which VIsual totally dominated, the gameplay was for me more captivating in NFL2k5.
We will see alot less progress in implementation and ideas now. After seeing visual concepts NBA game , I am confident Visual concepts would atleast made a much better looking game than EA.

Itīs too bad there are too many sheep following EA, blind sheep :)

Well, I'm going to have to agree with the overall sentiment that Madden 06 sucked balls. The passing game is a little better than usual, but it says a lot that I ended up taking it back for credit, buying a Game Replay and then downloaded up to date rosters for ESPN NFL. That game was so damn good and what's sad about it was the franchise was just really coming into it's own when the rug was pulled out from under their feet with the NFL rights going to EA. Think about what the game would have been like this year...

However if this continues the NFL won't renew and may even make changes to the current agreement.

If what continues exactly? Madden will still sell like money-filled hotcakes to Joe Sixpack, regardless how many years it remains stale and pathetic. The NFL doesn't give two shits what the hardcore videogame fans think about the game. They got their money, they may get a cut of the sales as well, they're perfectly content. No, the NFL will stick with the status quo and deliver another exclusive contract in 4 years to whoever coughs up the most money. Don't kid yourself about how much they listen to the "uproar" as it's lost in the general clamor of ringing cash registers.

the only way to stop EAs BS(although great buisness moves, if you want to see it through the stock owners perspective) is to stop buying their games, and buy the better games from the competetion, like Take2, Konami . Money is EAs power, they can sell shit in a box and make people buy it with their forcefull marketing campaigns.
Their slogan "challenge everything" is so ironic , they should change it to "buy everything". I wouldnīt disslike EA if they stopped buying exclusives, but as long as they do and destroy healthy competetion , I will disslike them.
