OK, Diamond status is more of a music award, but Take Two announced via their Third Quarter financial release (http://ir.take2games.com/ReleaseDetail.cfm?ReleaseID=332433) that Grand Theft Auto IV has sold 10 million copies worldwide as of August 16th.
This of course helped them have a net revenue of $433.8 million compared to last year's third quarter at $206.4.
Take Two also announced they expect GTA IV to surpass the worldwide sales of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas at some point and become the best selling GTA game so far.

Well deserved, I'd say.
edit: My only issue would be the dating sim-esque parts of the game, but I found my attention towards them to be minimal.

Very well deserved. Now, let's just see whether the exclusive DLC on 360 was worth the reported $50 million.

And I still don't have it. Some day, maybe next January.

The rumors are that each DLC will contain about 10 hours of content and that the first one is indeed coming in November. We shall see...

I don't think anything is worth $50 million. Especially downloadable content.
But I hope I'm proven wrong. Pretty good game, though. Still think GTA III is my all-time fav. Probably because it was the "first" of the new 3D perspective.

Congratulations to Take Two, but I am somewhat saddened that Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas was the best selling GTA game before, I would take GTA III or VC over SA any day of the week.

My favorite was Vice City. Expanded on III in every way. Added planes, helicopters, motorcycles. Bigger, better radio stations. Defiantly my favorite soundtrack. Is the only one I actually bought a CD of. Radio Esperanto Espantoso. Bigger more diverse city. From downtown to beach front to the slums.
San Andreas had a bigger map, but it felt like it was bigger for biggers sake. It didn't feel as tight. There were vast stretches of open space with nothing going on. My biggest problem with it was all the unnecessary tedium. Eating, working out, dating. I think the large map added to this, since it took forever to get from one urban area to the next.
IV is an improvement over SA, but still not as tight and as cohesive as VC.
I'm not sure if I have a PC that's quite capable of running it (but I think that was the case when the PC ports of most of them first came out) but I'm certainly picking it up when I see it in the shops here. ..I've played it on a friends PS3 and love how much more immersive the city and gameplay have become.
Am I the only one who misses the 80's retro of Vice City? I found I kept loading up San Andreas with 80's music to keep the mood. :)

If they can add to Niko's story, I'll eat it up. I'd love to see additions made that expand the existing story. Let Niko get 'pulled back in.' :)

Really? I'd say a few things would be worth 50 mill....
Exclusive content for what will probably be the highest selling game this year?
Considering at least 6 million of those 10 million sold were probably on 360 - if MS charge 600 points per "expansion" - and half the GTA IV 360 owners buy it - I'd say they'd recoup in gross most of their net outlay pretty quickly...

I thought it was good, but not great. For a next-gen game, it seemed to have less than its predecessors (no firetruck/ambulance missions?) and seemed to be more "real" and less "fun." Why can't I earn the right to be fireproof? Because you can't do it in real life? Bah.
I was also disappointed in the radio. The talk stations seemed shorter than SA and less funny.
And some missions (dating, darts) are just boring. Can't buy properties, less customization, etc. I like the game but was expecting more. I understand they can't do everything, but I've played every one since GTA III and didn't expect to lose tried-and-true features. I won't be a first-day buyer of the next one, but I'll be hoping it's better.

I loved it. The city dynamic was amazing.

so much for all the excuses about how games can't survive todays low install bases... If they diversify, they seem to be ok, as GTA has shown. No Japan release, or PC yet, right?
GTA was fantastic, but some of the charm has worn off. Hell, I played all of the other ones to death... Once I run out of story or missions, I lose drive now.
