Its a slow news day so I figured I'd post this article (http://www.nhl.com/features/turco_game101805.html); not a whole lot of gaming-specific info, but a nice read nonetheless.

"I did the Mo-cap before I was ever chosen to be on the cover," Turco said. "I think it would be easier for football to just go in the studio and do it ... big deal. For us it took us a long time. While we are on the ice in all my pads and I'm diving around, and these little receptive balls are freezing and we had to heat it up. That was my first connection with the crew."
For additional Turco fans, there's an interview (http://sports.espn.go.com/nhl/columns/story?id=2197297) here that talks a little more about NHL2k6.

Q: You are the cover boy for the 2K6 NHL video game. Are you better in the game or in real life?
A: That's easy. I'm pretty good in the game. They made me quick. They copied my real style. But I have to say, I'm better in real life.
Q: Do you ever play the game and choose to be a different goalie on another team?
A: I traveled to both California and New York to promote the game, and whenever I play, I have to be myself. People always want to play against me, so I never get the chance to play another team. I guess it makes sense, I can't give myself a high five if I score on myself.

Turco's a great goalie too. Though it would have been funnier if they'd got Hasek to do the motion captures. He always looks like a seal chasing a fish when he makes the saves.

Now I wonder if Turco, or other pro athletes, do much gaming outside of sports games.

I remember reading an article about Mike Piatzza back in the day. This article asked him his most embarrassing moment and he said its where he was in the dug out talking to another player about Everquest and chatting about wizards and dungeons and stuff then he realized that his game mike was on and everyone in the stadium could hear him.

I've read that Halo2 is quite popular in the NFL.

While it might not have a lot of interest to those outside Australia, the Essendon Australian Rules Football Club (www.essendonfc.com.au) includes a 'favourite electronic game' question on its little player questionnaires.

I'm extremely bored, and have just gone through the lot.
There's a couple of Pacmans, a s**tload of Tiger Woods and other sports games, a couple of racing games, Tomb Raider, a few generic "PS2" or "Xbox", a couple of GTAs and old Mario games. And one guy who loves Duck Hunt.

So, from this perfectly representative survey, professional athletes are mostly console gamers, and rarely play PC.

Nobody likes Halo.

Calgary Flames was invited to Ensemble Studios to play some AOEII. Apparently one of the Flames players got everyone hooked, craig conroy or something.
