Shenanigans. DLC is only allowed to bring a game up to 1250 total, and these add 750.

DLC is whatever Microsoft wants it to be. They make the rules.
The way the 750 is calculated in this example is 250 per expansion pack, which is perfectly within MS's rules if that is what MS wants it to be.
I'm not saying that this isn't shenanigans, I'm just saying not to be shocked if it turns out to be true.

Well it makes sense to me. How do you get people back into Halo 3? Exploit achievement whoring! I personally have been sitting at 1000 since Holloween 2007, so I sure could go for some more achievement goals to get me back in the game.

Reading the policy again, it could be interpreted that way. Okay, maybe not shenanigans.

If I was guessing, I would say that the 750 was what they 'proposed' to Microsoft -- someone said, "Hey, lets give everyone 750 points worth of new Achievements to get them playing the game again along side the expansion pack."
It doesn't mean that MS will go for it. Since the expansion is rumored to be mostly multiplayer stuff and bots, if I was a betting man I would say "WhoHoo! 750 more points just for playing Halo 3 multiplayer!"

Agreed. Before, the rule was 1000 (except Condemned ;))...then MS changed it. If they wanted to (and for Halo, they would), they would change it.

Exactly, MS bumped up the 1000 point barrier to 1250 with Oblivion. So who's to say they won't change the rule they made again? I would not be shocked in the least if this happened.
Also wouldn't it be wild to see Xbox 3 games shipping with 2000 gamerscore points?

I don't care how many points a game ships with, I would just prefer to see titles ship with 1000 points for the single player game. I'm tired of half of every game being multiplayer achievements.
I was comparing my score to some of my friends and while most people have more points that I do -- I still noticed that most people average only 500 points per game because the other half of the points are from multiplayer achievements that are difficult or impossible to get.

Yeah kinda like that lame "be #1 on the leader board" crap in GRAW? I personally think that if there's MP achievements it should only be on games that are guaranteed to be played online, like Halo 3, Gears of War, or Call of Duty. Games like Condemned 2 on the other hand should have exactly zero online achievements.
Also I would really like to see Co-op achievments go the way of the Dodo bird. It's nice to be able to play with friends sure, but I really son't want to have to invite someone into Mercernaries 2 just to get a few lousy achievements.

I think there's a lot to be said for this. That's why I give Bungie and Infinity Ward credit for not emphasizing MP achievements (at all, in IW's case) due to the certainty of achievement whoring detracting from the online experience.

The multiplayer achievements in Halo 3 weren't that bad. The additional achievements rumored to be included in the Mythic aren't that bad either.
I say bring 'em on! :)
