You might remember Neil Manke's popular Half-Life 1 mod, They Hunger. It's back for Souce, it's 75% complete, and it's licensed.
Black Widow Games announced today the development of They Hunger: Lost Souls, its first commercial PC game powered by the award-winning Half-Life 2 Source engine from Valve Software. Based upon the highly popular They Hunger mod series, the upcoming title features a completely new horror-survival adventure. In North-Eastern Europe during the early 1960's, strange anomalies culminate with dead corpses rising from their graves. As a tourist recovering from a tragic accident, you seek shelter in an ancient monastery overrun by bloodthirsty zombies, and become involved in an escalading cascade of calamities. No word on Steam distribution, but it seems likely.

More screens inside.
A true rags to riches tale from the "Spielberg of video game level design." My only concern is the amount of HL2 content in those screens...

the Source engine is kindof a mixed bag for me. it has insane texture and great detail/physics, but compared to other engines coming out i dont see it as kicking anyones ass anytime soon. its pretty and cool, but not as REAL looking as some would say. that being said, HL2 is one of my favorite SP FPSs ever, and the original "They Hunger" was a blast at the time. cant wait to use that shovel to beat some heads!
--i hope to god this doesnt turn out like land of the dead (or the demo at least)...

Looks good... Doesn't require you to own Half-life 2 I hope?

Great, I loved the first lot of Hunger mods. Zombie blasting mayhem!
They Hunger was as much fun as HL1. I love to mow down the zombies!

Oh hell yes.
I loved They Hunger, I still play it, and it still creeps me the hell out.

Fuck yes. This is great news, and Manke is deserving.

What are you doing not owning Half-Life 2? Honestly?

I enjoyed that demo more than most people here seemed to. I was expecting a budget-priced zombie gorefest and it was exactly that, plus some fairly creepy atmosphere.

Well you're not COMPLETELY alone... I liked it too... though They Hunger might out-zombie Land of the Dead. I only ever played the first one, but found it really well done for the most part.

So basically, this game will have the worlds most facially expressive video game zombies? Sounds hot!

Square shovels (from my own personal experience) tend to be one of the best ways to smash zombies on the head. They are not, however, the best way to tackle weeds and dirt in your back yard.

The site doesn't say who's funding them.
Valve most likely. I spot HL2 game assets.
Its essentially a HL2 TC, so those could be placeholder assets.
But yeah, I expect Valve are behind this in some way.

Awesome, land of the dead: RTFH doesnt play that well, this atleast looks better, and should play better also with all the physics goodness. Haven't tried the old hunger, Should I D/L it just to try it?
Absolutly, its the best single player Half Life Mod out there.
