Age of Empires III is set in 1500 A.D. and chronicles the Age of Discovery that started around the time that Columbus "discovered" the new world. The single player campaign follows American history up through 1850, and in multiplayer mode, you'll be able to choose from among eight different civilizations, and there will include free-for-all and team-vs-team matches for up to eight players.

This updated demo includes the same content as before (2 single player skirmish maps and 2 campaign missions), but now also features a tutorial, allows you to minimized your UI, and lots of miscellaneous bug fixes.

You can grab the Age of Empires III demo (http://www.worthplaying.com/article.php?sid=29200) (426mb) over at WorthPlaying.

And the Boomtown mirror (http://download.boomtown.net/en_uk/articles/art.view.php?id=9190) is now up, too. :)

It keeps giving me a disk space error for my C: drive when I try to install to D: (1gb and 16gb free, respectively). Arr.

I always get around 500kb/s from ageofempires3.com and they have the 1.1 version of the demo for download (although without any notice of it).

Minimized UI is key, you'll see. Still can't get over all the useful features that are defaulted as "off."

Actually, you can install it on other systems (such as win2k (http://www.evilavatar.com/forums/showthread.php?t=6277#post116663)), but it's not supported. I'm guessing Ensemble had little to do with it, and it was more based on the fact that they are owned by Microsoft, and Microsoft is no longer supporting anything but XP. Especially since Microsoft handles support for all of the games they publish.
