I don't know how this one slipped under the radar but Gamecloud (http://www.gamecloud.com/) has posted an interview (http://www.gamecloud.com/article.php?article_id=1925) with Jowood brand manager Stefan Berger about Gothic 3.

Here's a bit from the interview regarding Gothic 3's graphical improvements:

We will support all new graphical features as we are using a complete new graphic engine. Gothic 1 and 2 are well known for their graphic power. In Gothic 2 a character had around 1,200 polygones. In Gothic 3 the character will now have around 12,000 polygones. So our graphic guys have a lot of work but also they have new possibilities and the chance to create much more detailed characters and animations.
It's a very short interview that points out the development team working on the alpha milestone.

If they fix the controls then after Oblivion I'd play this.

I've heard the controls are being fixed up on the new one so you can play with either a new control scheme or the old one if you prefer it.

"Gothic 1 and 2 are well known for their graphic power"???? what the heck is this guy smoking? both games were behind the bar in terms of graphics, what they were way ahead of the bar in was the STORY.

if they can maintain the story quality of the previous two AND add (finally) better graphics, then they'll definitely have a great hit.

too bad they decided to go toe to toe with oblivion though (i believe they're coming out nearly at the same time aren't they?) that was a stupid move on their part.

When they were released in Germany, the graphics were very good. By the time they got to an English release (1-2 years later), the graphics were ok. Look at the screenshots at World of Gothic (http://www.worldofgothic.com) and tell us what you think of those shots. Oblivion is coming out 3-6 months ahead of Gothic 3 - so they really are going head to head. They have always had a good story, so, hopefully they can continue.

As for the controls, the controls have been completely reconfigured and are easier to use. Those of you who loved the controls of Gothic 1 and/or 2, you can chose to still use either one of those.

What are you smoking? Should I state the obvious? I guess.

The graphics were great even when the US version hit the streets.
He is talking about the "graphics-power" and not nescessarily a great screenshot machine.
The levels had alot of detail (trees etc.) and were huge. The city was impressive too. I especially remember the view distance to be very far.
All this is "graphics-power".

So it's a trade-off.. by using a short view distance and with cramped corridors (Doom3/F.E.A.R.) you can create fantastic visuals, but in a RPG you often need to be outside. They did the right thing and made some great visuals for the genre. It seems they are doing the same thing with Gothic3 and we are getting the US version alot quicker this time.

I'm only looking forward to this and Oblivion (perhaps Civ4).
