The ability to make mods has been around on the PC for over a decade. Some mod teams have even gone on to found their own professional development houses. Now we get word that Media Molecule, developers of the upcoming Little Big Planet, may be looking to eventually turn some of the best mod makers for that game into pros.

From CVG (http://www.computerandvideogames.com/article.php?id=196254): [Producer Pete] Smith went on to explain the potential for a number of users to be "commissioned" to work on levels. "I think if we were gonna do that we'd rather get the top ten guys and commission them to make some amazing stuff for us," he told us at the Leipzig Games Convention last month.

And you might even land a job on the team. "But we'll be watching it closely, because it'll be a great way for us to recruit great new designers," said Smith.Smith also debunked rumors that they were planning to take the best user-created levels and start charging for them.

Dear God, Mr. Smith, y'all couldn't have been more vague with your earlier comments, then.

Nice to hear. Can't wait for this game to ship already. My PS3 is getting hungry for a new game.

How are they going to make money on this game beyond the retail revenue? If this is as big as everything seem to think it would be stupid not to extend the revenue possibilities beyond retail.

I'm pretty sure LBP stands for Low Binging Pastard.

They're more than likely going to sell their own levels as well as additional pieces to use in level creation (ex: water has been mentioned as one thing).

Alex Evans of MM has said a number of times that they'll continue working on the game post launch with expanded content. This could mean everything from DLC for new bosses/characters/elements in the game to more levels.

Apparently Disney DLC was confirmed at PAX, which makes perfect sense. Who doesn't remember all the Disney platforming clones in the 90s that were actually fun?

This is pretty awesome. I can't wait to make levels of my own, so its pretty cool to think they may get noticed if I'm on my game. They say level designers are in demand these days too, but you just don't hear about this kind of thing all the time. Pretty sweet.

That's a really cool incentive...the more I hear about Little Big Planet the more excited I get.

Fallout, Gears, and LBP are the three games I'm definitely buying this fall.

Watched people playing this at PAX, fun to watch, and I can't wait to see what levels are created.
