A 3 day weekend in the states! While it is the last vestiges of summer are this weekend it can only mean one thing: TIME TO PLAY GAMES! So, what will you be playing this weekend?

Lots of WoW, mostly on my lvl 40 mage. I'm hoping to be able to get that character to 70 before WotLK, which I may or may not get. I have a lvl 64 druid, but can't seem to motivate myself to level it.

GF might come over tomorrow, not sure yet.

Lots of FFXI. I'm about 27k xp away from 75 Beastmaster, so I'll be pushing through for that. When I'm not doing that, I'll be absorbed in Disgaea 3, which is simply awesome.

I'll be playing 1 week vacation at the cottage with my GF :)

.. anyone know if there's a cheat code I could use to remove the timer?

I have no idea what the hell I am going to play. I'm kind of waiting for Infinite Undiscovery so I don't want to start a long story driven game. I may purchase the Warhawk expansion bundle and try to get into that this weekend. If not, I will probably goof around with Culdcept (PS2) or a handheld.

Screw playing games. It's a college football weekend. The last thing I want to do right now is sit in front of the 360. The wife and I are about to make our pilgrimage to Atlanta to see the Crimson Tide take on Clemson tomorrow night.

Maybe some FFXI if friend is on, so I can help him level a little quicker. More likely a bit more Too Human. Also working to get some more achievements in Civ Revolution. Guess that sums it up.

I'm thinking about buying Heavenly Sword on the cheap. Or maybe Motorstorm, but I kinda want part 2 already some maybe not.

I'm waiting for Vesperia to get to me via Gamefly. Hopefully, it will show up on Saturday (fast delivery now that they have an Austin office). Currently, I'm playing Romance of the Three Kingdoms X on the PS2. . . My favorite in the series is probably VII, but I like the intricacy they added to this one in the quests vs. gaining deeds. However, I'm not a fan of the battles. They can all be skipped which is nice, but if you skip them, you can't win by huge amounts by playing smart. Also, gaining skills is ridiculously difficult as you must 1) Meet an objective to have the skill available to be learned like winning 30 duels in a row or earning 400 tech xp, 2) befriend another officer who has the skill, 3) Train with this officer for the chance they'll offer to teach this skill, and 4) If it is a duel or debate skill, you must then beat them in a duel or a debate to actually obtain it. Super odd skills must be learned by gaining xp AND talking to the handful of "generals" who can't be added to your army and just wonder through China like Hua To for the "Doctor" skill. Still, it has all the intricacies of Romance that I enjoy, and if the battle system was not rock/paper/scissors like it is now (annoying) so that you could more easily stomp the competition just by being a better general, then I'd love it.

I'll probably be playing "Evacuate from Hurricane Gustav", as I live on the upper-Texas coast, near the border of Louisiana. It's still too early to tell exactly where the storm will land, but my guess is that it'll at least force me to evacuate by Sunday morning as a precaution.

I'll probably catch a couple sessions with Puzzle Quest when I have a free moment and maybe get killed a couple more times in Tabula Rasa on Monday. I'm at a plateau in TR where all of the available Missions/Operations are way over my level.
Kill minions, get fragged by mini-boss, wake up in medic's tent, repeat if desired. I'm not feeling the love!

I'm heading out for a motorcycle ride to the Blue Mountains in Oregon EARLY tomorrow morning and planning to get home on Sunday evening; want to miss the crazy Monday traffic! My niece is visiting from Florida next week and we're getting together at my mother's house on Monday anyway.

Going to try the entire game speed run on Braid. Pretty sure I've practiced the levels enough. Also, fantasy football draft on saturday. There will be much wing-age, gaming, and car-bomb consuming...

I just finished most of the optional stuff in Lost Odyssey aside from the backyard battles, so I'll probably bury that one this weekend. Apart from that, a bit of SC IV and Heroes of Might and Magic V. And hopefully some apartment finding, seeing as I have 1 week before I'm back to college.

Tiger Tiger Woods, y'all. I tried the new simultaneous play last night with a friend and it was so much fun. Constant shit-talking since you can see your opponents' shots in flight. I'd be putting on the green and I'd see a red line go flying over the green into the water at Pebble Beach and just laugh my ass off. Good times.

...and some Castle Crashers. I've yet to play co-op...just dabbled a bit in SP, but it looks like a riot.

+10 prestige, dude. Love Xenogears! I think I'll hit the Force Unleashed Demo now that we silver peons are allowed to have sloppy seconds.

Other than that, Dead Rising. Frying pan is my fav weapon so far. Anyone else have a favorite? (Is there a Shaun-style cricket bat somewhere?)

CivRev, of course. Would like to try MP for the first time, but doubt I'll have the time with the college football games Saturday. On Sunday, we'll have friends over for 4-player Castle Crashers, and a hilarious session that will likely ensue when one of our two friends--a puzzle fanatic--tries Braid for the first time. I wonder if she's ever eaten Humble Pie... :D

After all the talk in the "Saddest Endings" thread I'm determined to finish Shadow of the Colossus! I recently defeated all but the last Colossi. I'm still unable to get from the right hand to the shoulder. All of my leaps of faith have ended in a level restarting deathfall. A little help anyone?

I'm hoping to finish Uncharted this weekend and then start The Darkness.

I just finished this last weekend. I'm curious to see what you think of your encounter with the last "boss".

School starts again so this is truly my last big gaming weekend till December. I'm going to try to play some during the semester unlike last two semesters...so i'm sitting around waiting for Infinite Undiscovery. Otherwise it's the same list i've been playing, easy to pick up and put down...

Silent Hill: Origins
Etrian Odyssey II
Civ. Rev. - Finally going to put some more time in this game...
Crackdown- I need to decide if i'm really going to find the last few orbs I need and maybe look at other achievements i haven't snagged...
Viva Pinata- My garden finally was given more land...

And I am going to play the demos from Braid and Castle Crashers. I can only afford one right now...so not sure but I know both are getting big praise around here...

Cancel what I said I'd be playing; my 360 just died, so while it awaits its casket and pallbearers I'll be dusting off some PS2 games which I've been meaning to replay - Silent Hill 2, RE4.. I might get a start on Xenosaga II also.

Give you a hint: try an arrow.

As for me gonna be playing lots of Warhawk. Friggin love the jetpack! Game just keeps getting better and better with each update. Does anyone here still really play? I've never really had anyone to play with and I was never able to play on the dedicated night that EvAv used to play.

Prolly do some Castle Crashers too, but have had lots of probs with connection issues.

They've made some changes that makes leveling both faster and easier, at least 55+. Lower levels are mostly the same, but there are rings that give bonus xp with make things a bit faster.
I might get a start on Xenosaga II also.
Prepare for some disappointment. It's worth playing, mostly because Xenosaga III is so damn great, but Xenosaga II is the low point of the series. The music, story, and presentation are still good, but the combat is just meh. Thankfully, as for as RPGs go, it's rather short. I think I finished it in 28 hours or so.

Hmm...could be an interesting long weekend. My gf is most likely going to be assigned a new class at the last minute, so she'll be spending time working on setting that up over the weekend, leaving me plenty of time to "offer support".

Of course...Wii Fit just arrived today and she has been waiting for it, so I'm sure she'll take over the Wii whenever she wants a break.

So...for me:

Knock off another garden on PixelJunk Eden [PS3]. I started it slowly, taking a few weeks to get through the first garden, but then I finished the second garden in one playthrough and it's a lot easier to remember the lay of the garden when you play one seed after the next.

More TF2 [PC], of course. Going to try and work on my skills as a Spy and an Demo...the two hardest classes for me to play :(

Some more Zelda: Phantom Hourglass [DS]. Another game that took me a while to get into, but now I'm trucking through it.

Some more of the surprisingly pleasant Aurora Feint [iPhone]. A game that reminds me of a cross between Poker Smash and Puzzle Quest...with a nice tinge of "grinding".

Now, if the Wii is free...I'll be playing some more Super Mario Galaxy and Zak & Wiki. I may even download Helix (for her of course ;) )

I do have to work the overnight shift on Saturday but that basically means I get to watch movies and game until 7am...

I'm planning on playing some local co-op Castle Crashers on Sunday along with a few other games when my friends come down to visit. Otherwise, I'm off until Tuesday, whereupon I get to head up north for a week at a cabin resort place on a lake... for work! My job alternately rocks and is crazy draining...

I intend to finish Too Human tonight (I'm somewhere in the depths of Helheim with my main) and maybe play a bit more co-op (rolled up a Defender last night and got my first taste of co-op and it was delightful).

I'd like to play some Tales of Vesperia but I would really like to wait until I get back from my week out of town. I'll probably sink more time into Persona 3 instead and maybe, MAYBE, some Disgaea 3.

Oh, and The Last Guy, of course.

I'll also be playing more of my pick for this week's Turning The Spigot game, which is a PC title for once, and a relatively recent one at that...

I'll be playing Trauma Center 2, some Final Fantasy game (either FFIV DS, FFVI Advance or FFTA2) and some Hot Shots Open Tee 2 or Jeanne D'Arc on my overnight shift, to be sure...

I completely agree with this statement about Xenosaga II. The other jarring thing about it for me was the change in voice acting. For whatever reason they decided to change up the voice actors for the second one and it made me cringe the first time a few of the characters opened their mouths. Thankfully most of the cast from Xenosaga I comes back for III. Oh well, at least II is short. Push through the pain, III makes it all better.

I'll be playing and hopefully finishing The Witcher this weekend. I'm almost finished with Chapter III. The moral choices that you have and how much they impact the story are making my head spin.

Finish it! Really, it's not that long, and III is so freakin' good. Heck, I'd almost say you could skip the rest of II and just go to III and read a story synopsis, but I could never recommend that. I'd say the Scythe was my favorite weapon. If you attack while holding a direction, Frank will sweep it low and take the legs out from anything in front of you. Then you've got a crawling mess of bodies to knee drop.

Actually, on second thought, Frank was my favorite weapon. I spent more time suplexing and face crushing zombies than using real weapons.

Where do you work?

The Orange Box just dropped to $30. I think I'll roll down to the store tomorrow and, at long last, play me some Portal. Haven't played Episodes 1 & 2, either.

Other than that? Maybe some drunken Just Cause, and I'm tempted to buy Castle Crashers, but it should be a relatively light gaming weekend. I've got some writing to do over the long weekend + going to the U.S. Open tonight + many barbecues to attend.

Playing? I'll be at PAX all weekend. How will I find any time to play games?

Is the game of "Life" not a game? ;)

The Darkness was fantastic.

Uncharted was great too, but after I finished it I had absolutely no urge whatsoever to ever play the game again. It was a fantastic ride from start to finish but I don't think I'll ever play it again. I do hope that Insomniac does more games with Nathan Drake though or at least another game like Uncharted.

What did you like about the Darkness? I actually went back and gave Uncharted a chance when both you and Kelegacy were talking about it in another thread. I ended up really enjoying Uncharted so figure I ask about The Darkness. And I feel the same way about Uncharted. I loved it the first playthrough...not doing it again...my gaming skills were barely enough to finish it the first time...

But then again, Uncharted is the only game in years, or decades, I've beaten 3 or 4 times in the span of a month. Great fun.

You trophy whore ;)

The Darkness is a fantastic game. It is hard to describe exactly what it is that makes the game so good. It has... style, something that a lot of games are missing. The hell levels get a bit tedious, but that's about the only negative thing I can say about the game. Pick it up, if you haven't; it goes for pretty cheap nowadays.

Thanks. I think i'm going to put this on my "to be placed on my Gamefly list". It's games like this that get lost in the shuffle and realize I missed out on something. To many games...just to many games...i'm closing my eyes this Fall..I don't see anything :)

Let me know if you can get through it. II was such a chore, with it's hour and a half movies thrown in between a very generic RPG battle system.I'm fine with the hour and a half movies. That's why I'm playing the game. It's the sluggy/confusing/bad combat mechanics that turned me off of the game... And I have a high tolerance for those, esp. in JPRGs.

What did you like about the Darkness? It just oozes style and has a great cast of characters and a pretty decent story to boot.

It also has one of the most depressing endings, EVER.

It does start a little slow and things don't really shine until you get the stabby tentacle powers, but once the game turns from a first person shooter to a first person 'stab everything with your tentacles' game, it's phenomenal.

Easily one of the better games on the 360 or PS3. Just stay away from the multiplayer side of things :)

I got back into GTA IV and have really been enjoying it. That and some God of War II should fill my long weekend nicely.

I really need to finish GTA IV. I had to take a long break from it and have just never gone back. It was such a good game though.

That's exactly where I am. I picked it up on release, played it for a while, and then put it aside. I just picked it up again this week and really got pulled in.

2560 Bloodsail Pirate kills to date. And still, no Macaw (http://www.wowhead.com/?item=8494).

It appears that this, will be how I am spending my weekend.

Working on BioShock, Halo 3, and GTA IV for the most part.
Sorry, no Too Human this weekend.
I'll try to fit some XBLA titles in edgewise.

The Darkness...man, one of my favorite games of last year. How far did you play in the game? There are things that happen in the game that few games, or movies, would dare to do. I could say "shit is fucked up" and to me that is good enough a description of this incredible game, but I know other people need more. Let me just say I loved the gameplay, the characters, the myriad of emotions I felt while playing the game; few games have ever illicited such strong feelings in me as The Darkness. From anger to sadness, The Darkness really fucking surprised me.

Starbreeze has created two incredible titles and I cannot wait for a third. I gush, I know--but how often does a jaded gamer really get to gush?

Now i'm sorry I haven't put the Darkness on my Gamefly sooner :(. I had a whole summer and to many times it was bare with not much to play...

I'm pretty sure The Darkness is one of the games at Gamestop right now in the "50% off" bin. That and Rainbow Six Vegas 1 both come out to like $9 each right now.

I just finished this last weekend. I'm curious to see what you think of your encounter with the last "boss".

I did NOT like the last boss. In fact, I pretty much hated every encounter that included one of those asshats with a laser sight. I liked the game overall, but I don't think I will ever play it again. I think it has actually burned me out on shooters for awhile. I started playing the Darkness and then decided that I really needed to play something else. Not because it was bad. I think I'll play Paper Mario on the GC instead.

Well you have a similar reaction then what I was feeling. Loved so much of the game...the last "boss"...I thought someone was trying to be cute...and some thought the last fight in MGS 4 was annoying...and the guy with the lasers...ugh...But I admit i'm not a shooter fan but I really did like the game. No game is perfect...I just had to ask what you thought about that last boss ...glad i'm not so alone in what I was thinking ...

Once I figured out the trick to the final boss in Uncharted, it wasn't half as hard as it was at first. But man... Talk about trial and error.

It's been a while for me, but wasn't it essentially just QTEs? I don't remember having a problem with it, at least nothing like Zues in God of War II. Now that was a pain in the ass.

It was the gunfight gauntlet that you went through to get to that final brawl that was a little annoying until I figured out how to get through it.

I didn't have a problem with the last level or the last boss. The boss fight follows a pattern and is extremely simple to defeat, eve on Crushing. Perhaps a minute-long fight total, maybe less. You guys are weird. Even the follow-up to the last boss wasn't too bad. You shoot at the box Navarro is hiding behind until it is destroyed and he runs away. Clean up his buddies and you're off to the next area, where you repeat the same thing.

The guys with the laser sights aren't a problem in the game. At least you can see the sights! As long as you keep diving/rolling across the ground, they won't hit you. Always target them first, if you can. I died a few times against them, but only because I'd been cornered/outflanked by the infantry and it made me pop my head out of cover to take them down. Besides, there aren't a lot of them in the game.

I actually liked the guys with the laser sights as you could at least see where they were shooting from. There would usually be a Dragon Sniper rifle somewhere in the vicinity and that would take care of them right quick.

The problem with that box sequence was cluing into the fact that if you DIDN'T destroy the box, the baddies would keep respawning and you'd eventually die. It took me a few attempts to clue in...
