1UP (http://1up.com/) is reporting (http://1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3144817) that the Perfect Dark Zero Sountrack will be coming soon.

Gamers who just can't get enough of Rare's Perfect Dark Zero should be happy to hear Sumthing Else Music Works is working with Microsoft to release the Perfect Dark Original Soundtrack on November 8, weeks ahead of the game's release date alongside Xbox 360 later in November.

Ok, here's the obvious question: Is any of the music on this soundtrack worth the purchase?

My answer: if it's anything like the original's music, it'll be good for the game but not extraordinary, certainly not worth paying extra for.

This is speaking as someone moderately interested in game music. I own 8 or 9 different soundtracks (Chrono Trigger being the best, with Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles a close second), so I'd be in the target demographic for this release, I guess.

As an aside, for some reason I love Banjo-Kazooie's music. I bought that game when I was 12 and listened to the included sountrack CD all summer. It just fits it perfectly, and to this day I can still hum the entire soundtrack....

Katamari Damacy and Grim Fandango are tied for best game soundtrack of all time.

Oh yeah, Grim Fandango was sure cool. Too bad Tim Schafer (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tim_Schafer) can't seem to get any decent selling games; he deserves it if anyone does.

I still have an old PC Gamer with one of those back-page interviews:

What's the worst game you've ever been involved in making?
I didn't work on Night Shift, but then again, I didn't really try that hard to stop it.
...
What's the greatest moment in the history of gaming?
The day Deer Hunter became a hit. I remember because we were all running up and down the aisles, cheering, "Yay! Games don't have to be good anymore!"
...
Did playing Doom ever make you want to kill anybody?
Yes, but after I killed them, the feeling went away.

Here are a few sample (http://www.pdzsoundtrack.com/) cuts from the PDZ soundtrack.

Kameo (http://www.kameosoundtrack.com/) sounds so much better as far as these snippets go.

I also noticed today when I was in the bookstore that there's a Perfect Dark Zero book that's just come out, claims its storyline is the "continuation" of the game. So I suppose it doesn't tie everything up at the end of PD0.

Ah, found it:

I thought that the Halo & Halo 2 soundtrack was very well done. Metroid Prime has a cool soundtrack souly because its so retro. I also love the original KoToR's soundtrack it was great because it was star wars BUT it was still different. Fable had a great score aswell. But the greatest gaming score of all time.....KINGDOM UNDER FIRE: THE CRUSADERS! Just kidding but i am looking forward to the new Tony Hawk soundtrack it has a bunch of bands i like in it (From Autumn To Ashes, and Death From Above 1979).

Halo's is excellent, no doubt about it. I remember watching the 10-minute trailer, way back when it was first announced as coming to the PC (from the Mac). The chorus coming in at the end, after the god-like cyborg saved the routing grunts, sent shivers down my spine. Of course back then he had a much more robotic voice, and it was still a squad-based game. I suppose moving it to single-player meant that the player had to empathize with the hero more and so the guy in the Mjolnir was given a more human voice. I prefer the earlier incarnation; it puts him above the battle--he's fighting on another level entirely and only rarely intercedes to help those mere 'mortals.' Oh well, there's always Too Human.

Getting back on topic, the Knights of the Old Republic soundtrack was done by Jeremy Soule (http://www.jeremysoule.com/). He's done a lot of other Bioware games and is responsible for Morrowind as well. And oh yeah, he's quite good. If you're interested you can download the Knights of the Old Republic soundtrack in its entirety somewhere, maybe Bioware's site. I've got the Baldur's Gate II soundtrack burned on a CD but I think I ripped that off the game itself.

Lame. They haven't even released volume 2 of the Halo 2 soundtrack yet. I'd much prefer that to PD0.

I hope they release the PGR3 soundtrack, they threw up some classical music in the game. It's amazing how well it fits.

Jeremey Soule rocks. He also did(does) the Guild Wars soundtrack and is constantly adding music to that game.
