Hexus (http://channel.hexus.net/content/item.php?item=15225) is exclusively reporting that Abit has left the motherboard market.
HEXUS.channel can exclusively confirm that Taiwanese technology company abit, which is associated primarily with high-end and gaming mainboards, will stop producing all mainboards at the end of 2008.
HEXUS.channel has confirmed this as fact from sources close to South East Asian distributors, all of which will be notified by their abit sales contacts from today onwards.
Apparently abit will continue to deliver mainboards until the end of the year and will honour RMAs and warranties for three years subsequently.
Pretty sure the only reason I even know Abit's name is because of their motherboards.

This rumor has been floating around for a few months now, it's nice to see it finally verified.
Abit have been going down hill for quite some time now and while their newest line of Intel based boards were really good solid boards that OC like a dream their service unfortunately kept getting worse. I love my IP35 Pro and I think it's one of the best boards I have used this generation and would highly recommend it for any one who needs a bit extra speed or plans on OCing but if it goes bad don't plan on getting service in under a month...or 3.

So I can cross abit off the list when I make my new rig in a few months...

Awww, Abit made good boards. Sad to see them go.

Man, I remember the heady days when Abit was always at the top of the list when shopping for a mobo. :(

My first 3 machines I built were using Abit boards. As of recent, I've been using MSI....so this is all my fault.

Most of my systems have been built on Abit boards for years. I am sad to see this.

It's sort of true.
A lot of my early machines were "Abit or nothing" type machines. I loved their boards because they competed well with Asus at the time and were usually significantly cheaper.
Then I started to drift...from Gigabyte to DFI and finally to Asus.
So, I too can take the blame.

I know for certain that the first computer I fully built without help used an Abit motherboard, so from a nostalgia point of view, this is sad news.

I will pray to the gods above that they decrease the size of your sexual organs as a result of this!
On a more serious note though... does anyone really give a crap anymore about Abit? They haven't been "best" for years.

Too, bad. My last several builds, up until my my last 2 builds I had used their boards. (one was an absolute horrible ASUS board that crapped out after 3 months and my current rig is EVGA). I do still have 2 abit boards in use as secondary PC's.

Abit has been stunningly lackluster for the past 3-5 years, I'm not surprised.

Indeed - what convinced me to buy an Abit motherboard for the first computer I built was the boards ease of use in overclocking processors for the computer building n00b.

Abit hasn't been good since the Athlon 64 days.

What a bummer, some of my first mobo's ever where Abit.

I used abit ever since the celeron days, when I used electric tape to overclock my 233 to a 300. I did use a couple of ASUS boards since then, but they never worked as smoothly as the ABIT boards I used. My newest system is ASUS, and it is hearttouching and all that, but it is still quite stunning to hear ABIT dropping their main purpose.
i have an abit ip35 pro also, and love it. I'm sad to see them go...

That's the last time I've built a computer with Abit also. They were really good for a while, but I'm not surprised they've given up now. I'm using a ASUS currently and was glad to have no weird issues when I built a new system, which I always seem to have even with the high-end Abits.

I'm very happy to hear this. The most unreliable motherboards in the world were made by Abit. Memtest86 errors galore and I wasterd weeks of my time troubleshooting. Turns out the original Abit board AND the replacement Abit board were faulty. As soon as I switched to an Intel board, keeping all the rest of the components and RAM the same, all the Memtest86 errors disappeared. Good riddance!

Sucks to hear that, Abit was always solid in my book. Built 3 computers on em.

I would go so far as to say they weren't even very good then. They were great in the Slot1 days, but after that they seemed to go nowhere but downhill.

Goodbye, good riddance. They've been sucking for some time now, and the market just forced them out.
