WAAAGH! Electronic Arts sends along a Press Release announcing that Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning has Gone Gold.

GET READY FOR THE WORLDWIDE WAAAGH! Electronic Arts and Mythic Entertainment today announced that the highly-anticipated MMORPG, Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning (WAR), has gone gold and will open its servers on September 18, 2008 at an MSRP of $49.99 in North America.

“We’ve done our best to create the next great MMORPG experience, but it’s the fans that will bring our world to life,” said Mark Jacobs, vice president at EA and general manager of Mythic Entertainment. “The Day of Reckoning approaches and it’s going to be glorious! It’s time to go to WAR.”

Based on the popular tabletop game from Games Workshop, Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning is an epic fantasy MMORPG featuring innovative Realm vs. Realm™ game play that pits the forces of Order and Destruction against one another on the battlefield to determine the fate of nations.

Awarded “Best Online Game” at the recent Games Convention in Leipzig, Germany, “Best PC Game” of E3 by G4’s X-Play and “Best MMO” of E3 by IGN, WAR has been well-received by critics and by the gaming community as an accessible and engaging MMO title. Tens of thousands of players have already joined the battle in the closed beta, and soon the time will be at hand for players the world over to pledge their allegiance to the armies of WAR.

Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning is scheduled to launch simultaneously in North America, Europe, and Oceania on September 18, 2008. Available for PC, WAR is rated “T” for Teen by the ESRB. For more information, visit http://www.warhammeronline.com/.A crying shame I can't play this one, it was just a bit too much for my old PC.

The preview weekend was an absolute blast and they seem to have taken the feedback they received seriously. Most of the common points people brought up are being addressed before launch.

I'm a giant Warhammer whore though, so the setting alone gives me a stiffy.

Needs more magic, IMO?

Runs fine on my laptop from 05.

Any word on a trial client? I've learned to not touch any MMO without a free trial, no matter how many people tell me how great it is.

I wanted to play in the closed beta and preview weekend... but I was accepted while on vacation (and thus away), and while I started downloading the client in order to play over the weekend, it didn't finish until yesterday! Looks like I'll have to wait until Sept. 7 for Open Beta.

I haven't heard anything about a trial client, I would imagine they would come out with one eventually. Their focus is really on delivering the best game possible on the launch date. Much like Age of Conan, if you don't have a polished product at launch, despite your influx of sales, your subscribers will fade away as quick as they came.

I think there will not be a trial client, but there will be free to play weekends.

Like others, I will not buy this till I get a free trial period.

After the Star Wars Galaxies beta, I thanked god that they never got a cent of my money for that POS. I applied for the beta of Warhammer when they first started accepting applicants, and have not received and email from them since the original "confirmation of registering". I'm still fine with WoW, especially with another expansion around the corner. Warhammer is gonna have to go out of its way to make me switch.

Not free, but if you can get your sweaty (probably) hands on a preorder box, you can still get in for the preview on the 9/7 and the headstart 3 days before launch (the 12th-15th?). That's only $10.

If you are a fan of DAoC or WoW's battlegrounds or Guild vs. Guild, then this is at least worth looking at. Personally, I feel like someone made an MMO just for me. :)

The game hasn't really grabbed my attention. I've been in the beta for a very long time, but never played it for more than a few days here and there. It's a good game, it just doesn't do enough for me to buy it and subscribe.

I'll probably pick it up in a few months, once I'm sick of WotLK.

In my opinion, Wrath Beta was > WAR Beta, and I will stay with Blizzard for a while. Just an opinion.

Any people out there who has played it? I really like the Greenskins and would love to get some new mmo instead of same old wow. Also I wonder if anyone knows what kind of graphics card it will require? I still have my trusty old RadeonX800 running wow without any problem. Guess it is time to update now :P

levelling just by doing RvR? sounds fun to me.

I'm most definitely interested in giving this a try, at least until a 40k MMO comes out.

I recomend the game, I hope the "open" beta is in fact open, as the game is a bit different than most MMOs, as it feels like there is something to do everywhere.

I'm down. After playing the preview weekend, it helped solidify the purchase. At first I wasn't really excited for RVR, but it was a blast to play. The game is easy to pick up, and the story is entertaining. Wonder if its too late to pre-order this?

Na, you can still preorder everywhere. I did mine last week at GoGamer.com

As long as you want to preorder the regular edition, you'll have no problem. There was some big announcement that all 60k copies of the CE were sold out, though.

Hell yeah! Can't wait to see how the W40K MMO turns out. Of course, that's a long way off... I just keep imagining myself blasting around with a Jump Pack as a Blood Angel...

I am dubious especially announcing "gold" this soon after the last weekend (which exposed many signficant bugs. Their stress "Beta" hasn't happened yet, and the code is still churning way to much for me to take this weekends impressions as anything close to what will be "real" for RTM.

Of course everyone is excited for the new shiny, just like they were for LoTR for about a week then everyone I knew quit to go back to WoW.

I played LoTRO as a Founding member and beta tester. I thought LotRO was one of the few MMO's I've played to be pretty polished out the gate. Yes, they had hitching issues, but they were more annoying than anything. The servers had a lot of people for the first 4 or 5 months, then it slowly started dying off as more level 50s roamed looking for things to do.

i'm not in the lich beta, so i can't comment on that, but i unless they changed something drastically w/ pvp in wow w/ lich...they're not comparable games. At level ONE i was queueing for BGs in WAR...and at level 10 i was involved in my first keep siege. It's a PVP centric game that doesn't focus so much on 1 vs 1 or 2 vs 2 but truely large battle encounters. Granted, it lags like a MOFO in them right now, but I think it will get better in that regard.

Don't get me wrong, I think wow is 110% more polished, better animations, better spell casting, better responsiveness from the UI...but WAR is going to have truly epic pvp from the first second you log into the game, and WOW doesn't really care about that at all.

Thread Highjack! :) I am really hoping they A. get a product out the door, and B. make a kick ass 40K MMO. What a great change that would be form the Tank/Healer/DPS rut we're in. A real RPG built around Ranged Combat would really shake things up.

If you want a trial just go to Target, pick up a preorder box for $0.99 and you'll get access to the open beta week and the head start stuff. instant trial. And if you decide to pick it up you have a $5 coupon to use.

Expect day 1 patches. They have to get the code out the door sometime to get it out to retailers. It wont have blizzard levels of polish, but then, what does? I don't think anyone is expecting this to unseat WoW, but there is definately a PvP niche to exploit and this game seems to have solid ideas and a good IP. I'm looking forward to this and hope Mythic is successful with WAR.

From what I've read (http://www.uptowar.com/archive/78-confirmed-north-american-open-beta-date), the head start begins on 9/15

For all the drum beating about PvP there really should be more talk about some of the PvE stuff they've done. Public quests are pretty much amazing. If raiding had been done like this elsewhere I'd have been a raider a long time ago. The Tome, while a bit overwhelming at first, is a really great concept.

This is true. Public quests are a lot of fun, but they definitely take second place to me after scenarios. I find them somewhat frustrating in that the people who love them tend to do the one that is closest to the first quest hub in a tier over and over instead of moving out and doing all of them (and there are a ton of them). This isn't much of a problem in Tier 1 when there are a million people at nearly all of them, but by Tier 2 it is sometimes hard to find both a tank and healer to kill the last bad guys (with more of you to help, obviously). Even when you do get those guys to join, if you are a great PvPer then you won't get loot that is worth a damn from PQs unless there are enough people there for you to win at LEAST a blue bag (green and white bags are lesser and minor prizes) because PvP gear is, of course, excellent. You absolutely earn that PvP gear, but I still want the PQ prizes to be better.
