Details here. (http://steamgames.com/tf2/heavy/sandvich.htm) It's a replacement for the shotgun eaten by taunting, and the first unlockable. Infinite ammo.

The update is now out!

I love how this is the new "Meet The" video

He was a good lunch who played by the rules, until the rules robbed him of everything he ever loved. Now he's lettuce, tomato, cheese, bread, and a mysterious slice of meat, marching down your throat and straight to hell. He'll satisfy your hunger. FOR REVENGE!

It's unlimited. It says so right there.

Wow. This is hilarious. I love it. Perfect for those maps with health packs that are few and far between. I can't wait to see this in action. I wonder if they had this planned since before Meet the Scout, hence its inclusion, or if the Scout video led to its development.

Ok, at first I didn't think I'd want to work on the heavy achievements, but it looks like that's changed now :)

Valve needs to allow a volume control on their media player.

And by 'allow' I mean 'include.'

So you can choose the sandwich instead of the shotgun. Dropping the shotgun makes you more vulnerable to snipers for some reason. Heals 120 in 4 seconds, cant cancel out of it. Unlimited supply.

Achievements now have descriptions as well. Most are as you would have thought from the filenames.

Well you dont have to guess, just go read the description =p

On the bright side, the Heavy’s Sandvich supply is unlimited,

I'm wrong. I could have sworn I read there was only one sandwhich. I think I'm becoming stupider, I've been doing that quite a bit lately.

I dont understand the ammo thing then. So it gives you health and unlimited ammo? That seems a bit much.

It's okay.

What the fuck is this?

It is a sandwich? Is this a joke? You choose a sandwich instead of a gun? What?

If someone asked me right now if I'd rather have a gun or a sandwich, I'd pick the sandwich every time. :)

Yes, I'm a little hungry.

In all seriousness though, it's just a useable item. You trade off your backup ranged weapon for potential longevity in the field.

That was fucking hilarious. I would never have guessed the next 'Meet the' would have been the sandwich, lol.

I still love the Scout one though. So much humour from one sandwich.

Continue to absolutely love Valve's "Meet the" video series. This one was great. I don't play nearly enough TF2.

It's true, Jacktion. It only makes sense in Team Fortress.

Remove the fact that it's a sandwich, and what you have is a self-healing item that temporarily disables the Heavy and makes him an easy target. Let's look back at A Heavy Problem from the TF2 Blog:

Goal: Make the Heavy more viable when he has no Medic to pair with.

I'd say the Sandvitch fills that role pretty nicely.

Constraints:

It shouldn't have a cumulative effect when being healed by a Medic as well. Heavy/Medic pairs do pretty well as it is.

It shouldn't significantly change the Heavy's role, relative to other classes. In particular, it shouldn't significantly encroach on another class's role.

It should be understandable for both the user and the player it's being used on.

Check, check, and check. A Heavy has next to know use for the sandwich when paired with a heavy, since it takes less than four seconds to heal 120 points, and only slightly longer to fully heal a Heavy, so it would be a waste of time and dangerous to eat a sandvitch while being healed. The Heavy has the same role using the sandvitch, he just doesn't have to seek health as often. And it's pretty obvious what the sandvitch does, food = health is a near universal constant in video games.

So it fits all of Valve's requirements and helps reach their goal for the Heavy unlockables. Making it a sandvitch rather than a portable health pack just fits the Heavy's style and the humor of the game.

lol, I think it works. It fits the humorous side of the game, but it's practical in the sense that alleviates medics from having to baby the big fatso. Will be very useful at A on Gravel pit when that one obnoxious scout runs out and blasts you a few times only to be ripped apart seconds later, now you don't have to run downstairs to that one damn med kit!

I also think it's an example of great design in a game. It fits the atmosphere and it's useful without breaking the game (at least in concept so far). I love it.

"He punched out all my blood!"

I've said it when every other "Meet the..." video came out...and I have to say it again:

Valve needs to fucking make a Team Fortress movie. Now.
I'd gladly pay $10 for a ticket to see 2 hours of shit like that. I'd also gladly fork over $20-30 for a DVD/Blu-ray release.

Also, the Sandwich is awesome. I, too, plan on actually working on the Heavy achievements now.

I was referring to the fact that the sandvich can keep you in health longer, but it does nothing for the problem of running out of ammo. I guess the answer is "tough nuts", though.

exactly. Which in my mind means you'll need to run somewhere to get ammo and where there's ammo, there's health.

I will probably go back to shotgun.

Simple, pick up the metal that drops like Heavy's have always done.

I just played for an hour right now on a public server, and, wow, I forgot how little I missed class whoring. At the very least it made life easy for me as a Pyro. Oblivious Heavies + Snipers + Backburner = 12 easy Kills.

I am very happy the updated the Heavy. It was probably one of the least played classes, and this should really help increase its use in games.

Just a movie? I want a mini-series! And blu-ray, no man, release it on Steam. If you don't like their built in player there is always right-click-> open media with associated player...

But yes, I would be very seriously interested in seeing them do more than just promo spots.

What i love the most

Is that if you kill the heavy, whilst in the midst of eating his sandwich.
He drops it, so you can steal it and gain 50hp

That's awesome, feeble. I'm now convinced they made the Meet the Scout video, then looked at it and thought "Ok. Now we have to put a sandwich in the game."

Played a few hours last night, and the sandwich is definitely the best of the three new weapons. I have yet to unlock it, but I've seen plenty of Heavies duck around a corner and scarf one down before returning to the fight. When you're on a team of 12 the health packs are a very limited resource, and the Heavy being the slowest wastes a lot more time hunting one down. It also helps the Heavy avoid burning to death after fending off a lone Pyro.
