The history of superhero games is not a happy one, far too many games misusing the license terribly. One of the most notable and terrible superhero games was Superman on the Nintendo 64. With the advent of a new movie next year, EA's Tiburon Studio is brining the man in tights back to the gaming masses, but can it succeed where so many have failed? Boomtown (http://www.boomtown.net/en_uk/) took a look at the work in progress at the X05 event in Amsterdam.

Tiburon has taken a completely difference approach to Superman’s abilities than most developers. Superman is (in the DC-world) the ultimate super hero, and he shouldn’t be a weakling in the beginning of the game. So you start out with all abilities from mission 1. The challenge will be to learn how to use them and combine them the right way, and at the same time keeping an eye on your energy level – the only real limit to your powers. Lastly, you shouldn’t expect to deal with silly missions like capturing bank robbers and stuff like that. Superman saves Metropolis from the BIG dangers; the real heroic deeds are your metier. You move trains and oil tankers, or stop towers from collapsing and of course battle against real super villains.

Considering how fast he's meant to be and the fact he isn't limited by the fact he has to go around buildings, unless his city is mammoth I can't imagine it lasting long. Especially if petty crimes aren't your bag. It'd just be a sequence of boss fights.

Yes, but what is your point? This is a link to an entirely different article. If this shocks you, then you surely were not around during the infamous Halo 2 days, when 9 out of every 10 articles were about that steaming pile of shit.

Could it be the first good Superman game in, well, ever? I'm not getting my hopes up quite yet...

See at first I was thinking the problem with all superman games is control. Sure nobody knows what they're doing Superman games that don't matter like busting up a city of crappy robots and normal thugs. And the ps2 and xbox versions had some shitty controls. Namely the flying is ass. So I'm thinking why is flying so hard for superman developers. Why don't they just make it like flying a plane or something like in Crimson Skies. Pushing weapon A(gun) is a punch/attack, weapon B(rockets), is laser eyes, and so forth. I mean I just feel flying is going to be as clunky as any other superman game.

And how about a 2d fighter, DC vs Street Fighter...

That would be pretty f'ing spectacular, if only because it would inevitably lead to the motherload: DC vs. Marvel.

Now that would be the shit. But I think Capcom lost there Marvel license hence EA making shitty games now. But imagine, like 25 marvel characters vs like 25 dc characters. The team ups and shit. Lobo and Wolvie team, Batman and Spiderman, Hulk and Superman poundings. :-P

The retarded and worthwhile possiblities. Marvel and DC should encourage non-comic type crossovers like that. It sells without fucking up the comics themselves. A comicbook guy's wet dream.
