1up.com is reporting (http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3144680) about the newly announced Hot Rod Red Nintendo DS with an MSRP of $149.99.

Nintendo's handheld Wi-Fi revolution is almost here. The gravy train's first stop is Mario Kart DS on November 14th and a the "Hot Rod Red" bundle featuring a hip, red-colored Nintendo DS packaged with Mario Kart DS - actually save you about $15 - on November 28th.
One "hot" deal, and I'm thankful the decals are purely optional.

Man, and I just bought a blue one. Not sure if I like the blue colour or not, though. The 'regular' coloured ones were out of stock.

You know its time to buy a ds when?

I hate the non-ergo shape but the games coming out/out for it are going to make it impossilbe to resist, I'll more than likely pick this up and one of those cute lil Nintendo Wifi USB thingies, then the insanity shall begin.

Oh is Advance Wars, Wifi as in you can play anyone in the world over a wifi connection or is it just some silly map sharing shit?

Wifi as in two guys in the same room, unfortunately.
Hopefully the sequel will do the online thing, whenever they end up doing a sequel.

I don't know what I was thinking. Why on earth would Nintendo, of all people, make a sequel to a successful handheld game franchise?
They've never done anything like that before!

The first Wi-Fi game from Nintendo. Keep in mind that good ole' Tony Hawk's American Sk8land will be available at launch as well.

Animal Crossing will follow on Dec. 4 (that's shipping date; game should arrive no later than Dec. 5).

Married? You were lucky pal, the financial rape normally starts as soon as you hit the 'relationship' stage ;)

I was cheated! Seriously, why can't they come out with the cool colors first? Well, I guess I know the answer to that, but that's not going to stop me from complaining.

Ditto. And why such limited colours for the North American market? They won't even try anything beyond silver, blue, red and black. *sigh*

Probably because Nintendo gets hit with "teh kiddy!!11!" when they try something that isn't a dark, "masculine" color.

bleah, they said that the DS will be completely separate from GBA, and i almost believed them

now when theres games like castlevania, advance wars, and kart, which could easily be on the GBA, makes me mad.

I dont want to buy a big clunky portable, i want to keep my GBA SP! hell even if they built a new GBA SP with wireless id probably buy it.

According to this nifty article (http://lostgarden.com/2005/09/nintendos-genre-innovation-strategy.html), its less expensive (on average) to develop DS games then GBA games. So it doesn't surprise me that GBA type games have appeared on the DS, even if their use of each screen, the touch screen, and microphone are token at best.

Why?
Just because a game doesn't use the touch screen or microphone to significant levels doesn't mean it would be as good on GBA.

Castlevania and Kart both use much better graphics than the GBA is capable of, and the major selling point for MKDS is the wireless multiplayer anyway.

Advance Wars is all about the touch screen, too. If you wanted a GBA version, go buy the GBA version. There's two of them, even.

I think that mostly comes down to the DS not having many licensed games as of yet, and several of the early ones being N64 ports. DS cost should be more than the GBA, and I think we'll see that reflected in the numbers soon. Of course, by then we'll probably be too stunned by PS3 dev budgets to notice.
