The hands on previews keep on rolling, up next is Perfect Dark Zero. Is this going to be the XBox 360's Halo?

Perfect Dark Zero really doesn’t feel like your first person shooters as of late. It actually feels more like the original Perfect Dark and Golden Eye on Nintendo 64. Shocker I know, right? The game play is a lot slower, stealth and cover is a key to surviving. There is a “cover mode” option that comes up when you come to a corner on a building or other objects that can provide cover. While in cover mode you have a view of what’s around the side. Aim up the baddie and pull the trigger and you’ll quickly pop out and bust a cap ala Sam Fisher Style.
You can find the full preview in our forums. (http://www.evilavatar.com/forums/showthread.php?t=6110)

The levels themselves are HUGE and complicated. It seemed every building had an entryway, as well as multiple floors.
Thank god. I am getting sick of shooters with huge levels, but only one small linear path you are allowed to take.

One thing we found out that royally sucked was the lack of checkpoints or save features. That’s right, you die, and you’re done.

And ... I'm done. No interest in playing games that have stupid load/save schemes like that.

So basically its not much different from the originals? Except maybe graphics. I figured this was coming, Rare hasn't really been up to speed with the latest trends in gaming. At least I have a good idea now what to expect, no surprises.

I think it'll be good to get a throwback to yesteryear, i think it'll be a great game personally.

Too bad pansies make up the majority of gamers.

And this is why I am slowly turning away from gaming.

Props to Rare. Thank you.

Yes! Real men don't save their games! They just spend hours and hours replaying the same level until they've mastered it! Its not like anyone has an actual life out of retrying levels until they are perfect at it!

If it is using an extension of the original Goldeneye engine, I really don't see a way the gameplay could fail.

Before Halo, there was Goldeneye.

I like Halo's checkpoint's system. There are a few times thier check point system doesn't make sense, but for the most part they are never to far apart nor do you do something for 15 minutes with out comming across a save. Makes me work towards a goal. Allowing auto saves, you get those people who move 2 feet, save, move too feet, save move 2 feet - die, reload, move 1 foot, save, move 1 foot - die, reload, move 6 inches, save. Kill. Save.

And so you think that if Ninja Gaiden had a better save system, it would have been a failure?

Personally i couldnt stand that game. I think its a really bad idea, as well as masochistic, to create a game that has no 'easy' or even 'medium's difficulty. I would have liked to enjoy it, but instead i ended up playing the same extremely difficult sections over and over. Thats not fun.

Bullshit. Frustration doesn't equal fun, they tend to have an inverse relationship. Games are for fun. You getting pissed off at your game doesn't make you more of a man.

Wasn't there an essay posted here a few weeks ago that talked about the exact same thing. Old twitch games were more difficult, and therefore more worthy/better games than what we have today.

There is no correlation between how hard a title it is and how much of a 'real game' it is. If we're expected to sit down and play for some 30 odd minutes each level with no chance for a break and every death sending us back to the beginning, that's just pointless and irritating.

If you don't like taking the easy route, don't use save states/loads, but not including something like that in this day and age is pretty stupid.

Agreed. No saves is a BAD BAD thing. If it offends the game designers sensibility to have saves or checkpoints, then they should just make an ultra-hard game mode that refuses to let people save between levels. That way the old school gamers with too much time on their hands can play the levels again and again untill they have the locations of every baddie memorized, and everyone else can play in normal mode...

It was probably only fixed that way for the demonstration.

Maybe once some press gets their hands on it they'll throw checkpoints in there, but the press usually likes hard games.

No i'm saying that the game was amazing and did really well IN SPITE of its difficulty. I personally loved the challange of the game but lots hated it but still powered through because the game was amazing, if pdz has great gameplay but its really hard i'll put up with it.

There is a difference between a game actually being difficult, and a game having a lack of features that in turn makes the game have a higher artificial difficulty.
