Trying to keep this as far away from shill-sounding as I can, Siliconera (http://www.siliconera.com/2008/08/15/mega-man-energy-tanks-ready-for-real-life-consumption/#comment-537612) reports that part of the merchandising in Japan for the release of Mega Man 9 is an energy drink. Not just ANY energy drink however...

Having video game themed beverages isn’t a first for Capcom. They did it for Sengoku Basara 2 and they are doing it again for Mega Man. This month in Japan you can buy a Rockman E-Tank Sports Drink for 137 yen ($1.25). The can even looks like an energy drink so it’s easily identifiable in the vast soft drink space at convenience stores.

Anyone over in Japan able to ship me some? Also - I wonder if it tastes any good?

A little OT, but I tried the Root Beer Bawls on Thursday. Pretty good stuff. I like the Cherry better, but the Cherry doesn't come in bottles.

Is this gonna be like BRAWNDO (IT'S GOT ELECTROLYTES!)? I hope they have this stuff at PAX.

Why does the link point to a particular comment?

That's a really, really good question. I pulled the URL directly from the top of the screen. So that's... odd, to say the least.

They sell those at Fry's Electronics, I think it's $1.50 for like a 3 oz mana bottle. I want to try it, but it just seems overpriced.

I think most energy drinks taste awful, so I'm guessing this one won't exactly be the pinnacle of flavored beverages. Still, I'd buy two cans, just to try one and the other for the novelty.

I didn't know that. I might have to drive down to Fry's tomorrow just to buy a couple.

Where did you buy it? The only place around here with Bawls is 7-11 and I haven't seen the root beer yet. I love root beer, though...like to get my hands on some.

On the subject of the "Mana" potions:

SWEET FUCKING MERCY DON'T TRY THOSE MANA POTIONS.

I bought one because I work with a die hard WoW player and I knew he would get a kick out of me chugging something labeled "Mana" at the start of work and then starting my shift.

The first few drops hit my tongue, and I knew something was terribly, terribly wrong. By the time a full swallow had slipped into my mouth, I could see Death's shadow in a corner of the room. It tasted like what I think any good poison should taste like - so incredibly vile that it screams "Stop! Only something terrible can come from drinking me!" Holy shit...just remembering it makes me a little ill.

I'm in Tokyo and when I saw this online yesterday, I went out to find an "E" drink. I went to 4 different qwik-e marts and they didn't have it yet. Me thinks it's either sold out or not out yet...

@Ispector Fowler: Best and funniest "food" review i've ever read :)

I'd buy one...I buy lunchboxes, toy guns, duffel bags et al that I have from pre-ordering...why not add to the madness of my game collecting :)

I definitely want one of these cans just to have it, not even to drink it. There are few video game related drinks that could be cooler. It's just a perfect fit.

Let me also say that no one should drink mana potions. They are an ungodly abomination. We tried a couple at a LAN party but rather than give a well-needed late night boost, they made several of us feel physically ill, myself included.
