If you've ever started a new char on City of Heros and found that every name you could possibly think of was taken, there's good news (http://www.cityofheroes.com/news/archives/2005/10/city_of_heroes_22.html) abroad!!

Starting 10/24/2005 the City of Heroes and City of Villains character name policy will change. Names for characters under level 35 on game accounts that have been inactive for over 90 days will be changed to unreserved status. This means that those names will become available for new character names if picked by an active player. This policy is being enacted in order to free up character names based on player feedback.

What happens to the the people returning to their pre level 35 characters, will they be renamed?

They will get a little popup box to change the name that one time when they login.

I always wanted to play this game and create a character named "Mild Mannered Man." Bitten by a radioactive human, he has the proportionate strength and speed of a human!

It's a pretty good idea. If you are inactive for 90 days you must not care that much, so why not let someone who is actually playing the game have a cool name? If keeping your name was so important to you, all you have to do is login once every three months.

Some people have registered names just for bragging rights..... So this isn't a bad idea. Though I might have made it 120 days.

Well it's an inactive account for 90 days, not simply logging in. So that means they aren't even paying to play anymore... so I think it's pretty fair at 90 days.
So as long as you have your account active still (paying your 15 bucks a month) you don't have to log in at all and you'll never lose your name.

Yet another reason to quit CoH.
I have low level characters that, when I return, want to be there intact.

Last straw.

Guess it doesn't matter now, as the latest wonderful changes make me not give a shit about returning.

What?
I can't see it as a reason to quit at all.

Certainly, a reason not to return after quitting for 90 days, but a reason to quit?

Your quiting because they are taking the names of your characters when you haven't played their game for atleast 3 months straight? Thats the last straw? Wow....
you chars can be low level... it only matters if your account is active or not...

Well, I hope someone else is happier with Hello Nurse.

I can. It's called World of Warcraft.

Funny... They can't even supply us with a legitimate way to change our names, now they can be taken away all together.

I'm sorry, I said "yet another reason to quit," which implies that there's more than one reason.

The enhancement nerf, of course, is a much bigger deal. This just adds more shit to the pile.

and today class the teacher will teach you how to understand what you read.

"on game accounts that have been inactive for over 90 days" or in our grown up language... Accounts that are cancelled, not payed for, no more active. Not account that you simply did not log in to. So dear omnithrope, if you are still paying, you have nothing to worry about. You can continue paying and not playing for as long as you like. Not worrying about your character names. Cause I am sure that omnithrope11002231 is very desirable name by many of paragon fine heroes.

I suspect that they are doing this in anticipation of the flood of people coming in with their new copy of City of Villains clutched in thier hands, unable to get a name of their choice because it's already been selected by somebody who let their account lapse 6 months ago.

Me, I'm glad to see them taking this step. Creating a new hero nowadays (and soon villains) is a real problem when it come to finding an original and appropriate name that hasn't already been used.

Not sure what you're talking about there...
I recently got the name Justice Titan, Red Wasp Ninja and Defense of Life.
Those are pretty cool names and fit my toons well. I think that you just need to be a little better versed in English and you won't have a problem.

I love about how it is hard to find an original name that hasn't been used. Well if it has been used it is not very original ain't it?

Irony ensues :-P

I don't believe you get it... you have to QUIT for this to affect you. So it's not ANOTHER reason to quit because hey if it affects you then you've already quit :( Yes it might imply there is more than one reason, but this hero name isnt a reason since you wouldn't be an active player for it to affect you. Now yes the enhancement nerf could be a reason, but you didn't say that earlier did you?

Actually if you log in just after the Enhancement Diversivfication nerf happens near the end of this month, you can have that character, it doesnt matter which powerset you choose, but go with a tank for the maximum RP vs gameplay synergy.

actually, it will be even better! Remember when you wanted to name your char cheesybreadman instead of cheesybumman? Well, once someone steals your cheesybumman name, you can log in and its highly likely that cheesybreadman would be available. Its a blessing in disguise!
