Day 2 of the Heavy Updates (http://steamgames.com/tf2/heavy/kgb.htm).

The unlockable for the Heaviest pugilists out there is the K.G.B. Any time a Heavy kills an enemy with the K.G.B he receives five seconds of guaranteed critical hits. This crit-boost can be used to punch and kill further enemies, extending the boost time. Alternatively, the Heavy can switch to another weapon and use the boost to take out an enemy at range. The Heavy's slow movement speed, and the K.G.B's slower swing speed, make it a risky prospect.

While it would be nice to have all the heavy updates on 1 page, I don't think we can edit news posts... so here they are.

I think the melee weapon will be fun...although rather deadly if paired with an uber medic.

Oh shit, those achievements are hilarious (no descriptions, just names so far). Valve are great at that.

Also, the main use I see for the KGB is with the shotgun. A kill with the gloves, quick change to shotgun and you might get a couple more kills. The minigun would only be useful if there are a bunch of enemies around, as it takes too long to get going.

Sounds cool. I wonder, though, if at some point with all of these unlockable weapons and so on TF2 will get too complicated for players who don't play all the time. I love TF2, but will never have the time to unlock all of the various weapons.

Only problem I see is that the Heavy is so damn slow. Everybody leaves him in the dust... if, IF he can get his melee on with an enemy and make a kill with the KGB in ther first place, I don't see a lot of chances he's going to be able to pull it off again within 5 seconds unless enemies were just swarming him like Zerg. I think switching to a gun is the only way they'll get to take advantage of this in most cases, and the switching alone is going to burn at least 1 second away right there, if not more (dunno for sure, never timed the switching animations).

Still, can't wait for Tuesday!

Switching doesn't take that long, but the minigun has a spin-up time, which is why the shotgun may be more useful.

Going on a punching spree though could be possible in one of those situations where are lot is going on at once and people are distracted.

I agree. The mini-gun would be useless in this situation, you wouldn't get a shot off in time for the crits. The shotgun would be the ideal weapon to choose if all of your enemies are at a distance, but my idea would be to use these boxing gloves when you have an attached medic, doesn't have to be uber, and you're about to clear out their spawn in the beginning of a round or a control point that is currently be taken by 3+ people.

Nice, thanks for that, but there's still one that's a little mysterious:

New taunt, in which you eat a sandwich? If so, that would be awesome.

I played this game once and walked away. I'm constantly reminded via steam when you guys play. I should join.

The support this game is getting is great.

I wish Valve didn't own so hard.

The incentive for a Heavy to try and punch someone is no longer zero, so I'd say it's a pretty good upgrade. The other melee upgrades are pretty situational as well, but good players can get some mileage out of them.

Shotgun replacement is a sandwich which he eats to regain some hp; makes him more viable without a medic.

Also Valve just made class selection in melee only servers redundant.

EDIT: Of the three updates so far the melee weapon has arguably always been a pure upgrade, without a balanced tradeoff/reason to choose the original.

I might have put the blutsaugher in this category too but I've seen people using regular needles recently to quite good effect, since I think they've really boosted the crit rate on them.

I disagree with you there. I much prefer the regular axe and bonesaw over the unlocks.
