Shacknews has a video online (http://www.shacknews.com/onearticle.x/54143) showing teaser footage from Bungie's next Halo project.
Narrated by Bungie's Luke Smith, the video looks to be set in a Halo 3 (360) multiplayer map filled with AI bots, a feature the game currently doesn't support, and appears to show a full-fledged map creator at the end--suggesting that Halo 3 may be receiving additional features and functionality, most likely as downloadable content.
"Even though in Halo 3 you finished the fight, that doesn't necessarily mean that the ride's over," noted Smith. "Wait a second, there is no way we're showing this yet."

Halo 3.5 seems like a more appropriate moniker. Though that's not necessarily a bad thing.

Looks like an expansion pack or something? Disappointing they're working on more Halo crap though, I thought the reason they split off was to use their boatloads of cash to do make something new.

Halo 3 Expansion Set: Revenge of the Flood
You heard it here first.
Speaking of Downloadable content, weren't we supposed to get one of the GTA4 packs by the end of the year (or am I just mistaken)?

Yay more Halo!
I can't wait to hear the latest info at Leipzig next week, or maybe at TGS in October.

Why not make an xpac? Lots of other franchises have them(ie Everquest, etc.).

Well, it's a logical next step for the Forge stuff. If they just made a blank umm...well...Holodeck-looking flat box and make a bajillion pieces, it'd be fun as hell to make your own Halo story stuff.

AI bots? Welcome back 1999 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unreal_Tournament)
Map Creator? Yet another so-called innovation you say?? (http://half-life.wikia.com/wiki/Main_Page)
And those examples are just the top of my head...I'm sure that there were those things previously.
Call me when they actually have something original...and not just a crappy expansion.

Wow, bots and a map editor. It's nice of console games to finally catch up with PC games from 10 years ago.

Honestly, I doubt that it's just Bots and Map makers. I don't think these will be generic bots in the multiplayer shooter sense, I feel like Bungie would make something more ambitious with them. Something like actual scenario-based gameplay, which would actually be quite exciting. Although, to be honest, I've never been interested in generating content. I'd much rather consume it. :D

A terrible analogy but whatever floats your boat.
If I pay $XX.xx for a game, I'm not buying it so that I can make my own fan. I paid you to make a game for me. Little Big Planet is cool, but I'm not tremendously interested in the level editor. I'll just download the highest rated levels and play them. Same thing with Forge. I admit that it's neat at some level, but I've never used it and probably never will.

Also, more importantly, we don't know what the hell this Halo product is going to be. They showed a couple of things, but it's probably a little tiny glimpse at the actual product.
I, for one, am looking forward to another Halo game, assuming that the Flood are absent.

Oh, I get it. If they don't do something new then no one will have fun with it, right? I mean if anyone is sitting in a Halo match and thinking "man, I wish I had bots" then they will just fire up Unreal Tournament and have a blast!
Let's try not to forget that just because it was done some where else first doesn't mean no one will want to do it in Halo.

Bungie has been hinting at Halo 3 big changes coming soon (probably September).
So I am pretty confident it's not Halo 4 but Halo 3 content...

They just threw a level together and plonked some NPCs down, then made an area at the end that looks unfinished. It's not a big deal.

That's what I got out of it.
It didn't take it to mean there will be mapping tools. It was a joke about that part of the level not being finished.

If they're so 1999, why the fuck is the pc community crying about the lack of an SDK with the release of Fallout 3?

I wish they would just make a new Halo every year like Madden and upgrade the engine every few years. I find it very encouraging that Bungie is signaling their next project is Halo related and Im sure millions of others do as well despite the snobbery from the PC guys who tried HALO and got their asses kicked.

Just the name Luke Smith drives me into a rage.
Thanks for releasing info about custom match searches (aka in your Halo3 preview and then never address the custom match searching after starting your job @ Bungie. Wait, you actually did address once stating that added custom map searches would pull the population from the idiotic grind-fest that is matchmaking. Oh yeah.

So that the mod community can fix the mess of an interface that Bethesda will most likely make.

God, just when I thought this site's news reporting couldn't get any shittier. This has nothing to do with the next Halo project Bungie is working on, this is the "major" update to Halo 3 that has been discussed for weeks now.

No shit. From the way people react, you'd think Bungie and Halo raped their grandmothers. Jesus Christ.
It's a decent FPS franchise that makes a crapload of money. Why shouldn't Bungie continue to want to make easy money?

hey
hey guys
level editor for halo 3 means awesome levels coming out ALL THE TIME
we're good at this remember? remember unreal tournament maps? counter strike maps?
how is this at all bad news
get a hold of yourselves
also, how about a playlist of top rated maps? how about if someone's map gets above 1,000 downloads, the map creator gets to charge like 5 microsoft points (about 5 cents) per download, and let the community flourish even moreso

I just wish they'd fix forge, I think I'd be ok with that. Having an overall map budget, but then an arbitrary number per item that's allowed on the map seems counter-intuitive.
Then again, maybe I'm just bitter because I can't finish my Chiron TL-34 map the way I want to.

Previous weekly updates showed that they regularly recycle old completed assets when they're trying out new things, which they illustrated with a sort of Man-apault Pachinko Machine of Death that features Master Chief launching Mr. Stereotype into a series of pegs so they could observe how their rag doll technology was coming along in a fun way that introduced a lot of unpredictable results and collisions.
And as old as user created content is, bringing it to the previously rigid console world is something worth a shrug and a coldly muttered "finally." Multiplayer bots have been in and out since Perfect Dark.
And what if the AI controlled bots were player controlled? As in a Forge update that allows players to inhabit a greater array of character models for the sake of Machinima?

A new level editor that is actually GOOD that will replace that horse shit called Forge? That actually puts a little smile on my face. Unfortunately, unless the new "changes" include fixing the brokeness that is Halo 3 in its entirety, I don't think I'll care all THAT much.

I am not alone then Halo 3 to me was a major let down and I am shocked at just how much the darned game sold. Do not get me wrong here the game if far from medi but it ain't so great as most make it IMHO.

Hmm...
The best level in the series has always been "The Silent Cartographer," and I really don't think the sequels have really matched that one level. The first half of Halo 3's campaign was excellent, and then suffered a bit when the Flood came up.I feel like all three of the Halos peak at the first level, but it seems like that was Bungie's intention. Why bother putting the best part a couple hours into the game when you can grab their attention at the very beginning?
Also, I understand the whole point of the Flood is to change up the gameplay, but I'm of the belief that it makes the game worse. The more tactical bits (at Heroic or higher, of course) with the Covenant is more interesting to me.
Multiplayer-wise, I know there's some debate between Halo 2 and Halo 3 over which is better, but I'd vote for the latter in that one.
The Halo games are weird because I really do love them, but I tend to agree with a lot of the criticisms of the series. The level design has always been very uneven. I mean, hell, compare "Arrival" to "Cortana." "Arrival" might have been one of the best designed levels in any Console FPS, but "Cortana" is a complete clusterfuck. Or, even better, compare any level in Halo 2 to the very first. It's no contest.
All in all it's a great series, and it definitely moved the FPS genre forward on the Console front. Still, I don't really hold it against anyone for scoffing at the series. Of course, I never really get worked up when some people hate a particular game with some legitimate points.

Halo Rocks! And all us Halo fans shall rejoice even more. Bungie please tie up the ending for us damnit. I don't want a map pack. I want a better ending or more multiplayer gametypes (assault) anyone?
I will gladly buy any game with the word Halo in it... yes , me and several million others..
