For those of us who like a good mouthful of numbers with our morning coffee, Next Generation (http://www.next-gen.biz) has the following report (http://www.next-gen.biz/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=1276&Itemid=2) on hardware sales, including current generation numbers and predictions for next generation consoles.

Xbox 360 Predictions

...predicting an Xbox 360 tie-ratio of 2 games at purchase followed by three games after two months, and beyond.WMS's report appears to be confident that Xbox 360 will manage 1.5 million units in the U.S. and 1 million units in Europe this year. The forecast presumes that the company began manufacturing the Xbox 360 in mid-August, and that initial production was 100,000 units per week, ramping to 150,000 or more by year-end. WMS says the company will manufacture an average of 125,000 – 135,000 over the 20-week period following the start-up. Xbox software sales will contribute $380 million in 2005.
That's a lot of Xbox 360s!

Actually, I just put my money down on an XBox 360 last week, so I wanted to let all you EvilAvatar investors out there that the actual numbers for the US will be one unit higher than originally predicted.

Namely, 1.500001 units. :)

A lot of XBOX 360s, but not enough for demand.

I would like to see the day when you could go to a Best Buy or Circuit City on release day and be able to get a new system without a problem. None of this, "Sorry, we have 50 systems but they are for preorders only...and we won't get any for regular sales for 4 months."

And having to preorder with a bundle...total crap.

Supply issues are why I don't let myself get interested in the new console until it's not as new and there are plenty of games. Well, minus the Revolution, damn Nintendo bringing out the fanboy in me.

This is the first time in the history of gaming that I'm doing this, but.....I'm not buying a 360 at launch. I don't know why. It just hit me one day.

I want the console, but I don't feel like going through all the unecessary bullshit anymore.

Agreed. I remember back when the PS2 was coming out and they were saying, "We're trying to increase our output at the factories, but there still won't be enough for everyone who wants one. So sorry!" Like they didn't plan it that way. If they REALLY wanted a new console to be available for everyone who wanted to buy one, they could make it happen. They like people fighting over it and selling out everywhere (and people having to pay 10x retail on Ebay). Their marketing people must love it.

I am just going to take my chances and walk to the games shop the day of release and see if the games are worth it ;) (this is less of a problem in Belgium). If no 360s available I will just wait I guess.... it is not the end of the world ;)

I'm just going to Toys'r'us at midnight (well, a bit before) and pick one up. No preorder, everyone else will be at wal-mart a block away. I'll be home playing before people get their hands on it. :D

Is it really as much of a hassle as you're making it sound? Honestly, I stopped by my local shop 2 months ago, while I was in the mall for another reason anyways, put down $50 to guarantee I got the system on launch day.

Now just this past week after seeing the X05 info and what games are likely to be available at launch I stopped in again and put down money for the 3 games that most interested me at launch.

Both of these trips to the store literally took a total of 5 minutes each when I was already in the area anyways. I just don't see that as such a huge hassle as people are making it out to be. Maybe I'm just being obtuse.

Still not sure if I will get one at launch or wait until after Christmas. I will be buying one, just haven't decided exactly when.

This is like Cartman's Amusement Park you can't come in tactic. Drive you to want one cause you can't get it.

I have never preordered a system or a game, never had to. If I want a 360 when it launches, which I doubt because of monetary issues, I'll walk into the local Wal Mart or some such department store and pick one up. Did it with the PS2 when they were supposedly impossible to get, and Wal Mart was my first stop. So if by some chance the cosmos blesses me with around $400 extra, I'll get my hands on one.

So besides Oblivion, what's the 360's killer titel? For what game are y'all buying the 360?

i'll wait till I see a must-have game that isn't on some other platform at the same time, or in the near future.

I'm going to get Oblivion for myself and Kameo to play around with the kid. Was going to get GR:warfighter, but thats been pushed back - for the better I hope. I'm not interested in racing or sports games. I might get PD0, depending on how much cash I have at the time. I "love" Halo2, so I don't think I can complain about PD0.

I'm waiting until at least April, possibly later if news starts to come up of a HD-DVD 360 version. The way I see it is that I'll be within the first couple of batches, but should avoid a possibly problematic launch machine and could end up with a sweeter/cheaper deal.

There's nothing to lose (apart from cash).

I've heard a lot of good things about Kameo recently. People that have played it are saying it could be THE game to have on the 360....

No 360 for me. I can afford it, and I kind of want it, but there is just way too much coolness hitting for the current systems to add another piece of hardware to the mix right now. I want Black, a bunch of DS games, SOCOM 3, Zelda (next year), and so forth. This gen still has some decent legs left to it, and I would rather plunk down $400 in software right now. I likely won't buy anything until somebody makes an announcement about what Silent Hill 5 is coming out on first. Then, the choice will be made for me :)

Is'nt Kameo the game where some Kiddie Faerie thing can morph into creatures and such? does not seem appealing to me... i'm getting Oblivion for the PC since it will be easier to find/apply mods that way and I think a game like that needs to be played with the mouse/keyboard. Now if they had the revelution controller for the 360 and you could use that for Oblivion! you could use it for fancy swordplay or something...

bkangy, the hd-dvd version would only serve the purpose of allowing you to watch hd-dvd as well. If that format actually comes out on top of the hd-dvd and bluray war. Games will still be made only for the core system. And the xbox launch system didn't give me any problems. However waiting until april (may(e3) myself) to see if we get a cheaper deal isn't a bad aim. Look how fast xbox 1 did a price drop.

The minute the local retailers here in Iceland advertise the pre-orders for Xbox 360 im putting down for 2. One for me and one for my little brother ;) And mabye some games if they have that kind of package. But the sellers here dont usually do a EbGames thing. So ;)

Hmm. I suppose they might hit those manufacturing numbers, but they seem a little high to me.

Anyway, I'm going to wait a bit for a 360. Probably at least until the Premium hits $300 (So, until around the PS3 launch). Of course, if the Rev is launching around the same time I may hold off on the 360 longer.

I really want a 360, but when I added up the launch day out of pocket expense it came to $650:

$399 - "Premium" System
$50 - at least one extra controller
$150 - three games
$50 - sales tax

That's when I realized I don't want one that bad.

Which is exactly why I started saving ages ago. It's not like the Xbox 360 launch has been sprung upon everyone with no notice. Even by stashing $10 per week away since E3, you could have had $270 (at least) toward the total cost.

His issue isn't having the money, his issue is opportunity cost. Gasp, there might be better ways for him to spend it?

When the XBox, GameCube, PSP and Nintendo DS were all released, I just went to Best Buy on my way to work, or in the afternoon at lunch in the case of the XBox and PSP, and bought one. No lines. No hassles. No shortages. I think the only times there are significant problems with supply are when the launches happen closer to the Christmas season, not because demand is that much higher, but because the console manufacturers are rushing for that deadline and they launch without enough units buffered.

Whatever the case, I'm going to take the same approach with the 360. If there are none when I get to the store, oh well. It's not like I don't have a 4 foot high stack of games to play already, that various crunch times have prevented me from finishing.

He obviously has other things to spend the money on that are either more important (rent, bills, child support) or better (sending it to me) than buying a 360, otherwise he would just buy the system. Opportunity comes into effect when even though you REALLY want something, there are other things where the money is more needed.

360 does not interest me that much, but I plan on waiting for the ps3 until it hits 300 (or lower if it launches there).

When I first really got into games...I didn't own a whole bunch now...now...waiting a little extra for it to drop can mean 2 extra games.

You have a point, but you are surmising. I made my statement based on his already stated desire.

Nevertheless, I have a mortgage to pay, kittens to feed, a wife to put through medical school, bills to pay, and money to send to you (it's in the mail, honest). That's why I started saving a long time ago. I would not be able to afford such a huge outlay in one thunk.

Perhaps, though, DoubleUranium's desire may be a new thing - therefore stashing money away earlier would not have helped one bit.

Feel free to jump in, DoubleUranium.

Kameo and Perfect Dark Zero. I will get Oblivion also a bit later. My brother is getting the new Madden 06. Overall, I don't think there is "one" killer app, like HALO was. But it seems to be a very solid launch line up.

The only thing I need to buy after I get my xbox 360, besides the games is; The cable to use the xbox 360 to a Vga monitor. So I can play on my secondary 19" Crt while surfing the web on my pc ;)

No, i'm with you 100%. I took the time to plunk down a few bucks after seeing the thing on the MTV promo. I now don't have to worry about getting a system for Xmas. I was also just in the area. It really isn't that big of a deal.
Now if you have waited until now to decide you wanted one, then it may be a little harder. But just go to Wal-Mart, Target, Best Buy, etc and I'm pretty sure you can still buy one. You can wait until the next day to pick it up, but I personally wouldn't do that. Go at midnight when they go on sale at Wal-Mart. May be a slight hassle, but don't blame the retailer if you didn't prep ahead.

Twigz'N'Berries

Oh, one other thing.
I don't mind buying my launch system.
1) Everyone worries about bugs.
That is why I buy the extended warranty. Sony taught me that. My
original Xbox lasted 3 years...before I dropped it.
2) There are never any good launch games.
In my opinion, that isn't true. N64 had Mario 64, Xbox had Halo, DOA (and I
had fun w/Fuzion Frenzy). Genesis and PS1 had fun games at launch.
Anyone remember Rayman, Battle Arena Toshinden or Ridge Racer?
3) I'll save my money and wait for a price drop.
Bless you for being patient. While some can wait for 6 months to a year
for a price drop, I couldn't. I'll gladly pay the extra $50 to $75 bucks to
get to play next gen stuff now. Some will argue that they can then get
those 'new' games much cheaper...which is true. But I will have
enjoyed that game for quite some time by the time it takes the plunge
to $19.99 - $29.99.

Just as some people laugh at us 'early adopters', we marvel at your patience. The longer I get to play with the 'next gen', the more fun I get out of it. In the time you wait for that next gen console to drop in price, the average person wastes their 'savings' on a variety of disposable income.

Just my opinion though...
