Gameplayer (http://www.gameplayer.com.au/gp_documents/Bioshock-2-Int.aspx?catid=Features) has gone live with an exclusive interview regarding BioShock 2. It mostly discusses how the three involved studios will approach the project.
"BioShock plays well, I think, to some of the strengths of games as a medium. Most of the first game’s story is unmitigated, meaning you get to live through or discover it directly, in the manner of a forensic anthropologist, as opposed to ‘visiting storyland’ from time to time and then returning to the entirely unrelated game experience. We’re all big fans of Portal, which is sort of a shiny exemplar of that unity between narrative and play; it was a refinement of Valve’s take on immersion. The goals of BioShock are a little different, but our principles overlap a lot."

The fact that Bioshock 2 is coming makes me happy.

Me too, but that interview leaves a lot be to desired. No new information, really.

nah it's more of a 'where's there head at' piece. Although it was interesting to see how they perceive the game and its audience. I am wondering what I want more prequel or sequel. You would think prequel would run over too much old ground (there was a lot of history in those tapes), but how do you do a sequel, given the (abrupt) ending.

good times, and nothing wrong with another dev talking positive about portal in their interview about their own game, let alone Bioshock 2.

Correct me if Im wrong but 2k is not developing this right? And no more Ken Levine has me a little weary of this sequel but hell the first game was so much amazingness it would be hard not to pick this up.

Correct on no Ken Levine but 2K Marin, is developing the next Bioshock. It's comprised some of the old team from the original.
Playing through Bioshock again, makes me realize even more this is really the best game I ever played. I can't help but be still in awe of "Rapture"...i'll probably love the second one but it's hard to top the "first time" play through of Bioshock where I just wanted to look at the atmosphere as much as keep moving to know what was going on plot wise. It's that i'm in "awe amazed daze" that I think will be hard to capture in a sequel...which is always the problem in any sequel...

This. I hate this. Levine solely gets the entire fucking credit for the game.
Dude! IT IS NOT POSSIBLE FOR ONE SINGLE PERSON TO MAKE A GAME LIKE THIS. The man in the lead this time is the person responsible for the awesome Fontaine/Ryan rivalry story arc and levels.

I'm with you. I'm on a second playthrough and I still find myself pausing to examine the environment. It's still creepy as hell when you hear a splicer mumbling to him/herself and you're not sure when you're going to turn a corner and face them.

It took me 15 hours or something to finish Bioshock, where it took a mate of mine about 7hrs. I guess that means I was double as intrested in the atmosphere as him because I searched every nook and cranny and soaked up the entire world.
Love it. Up there with SKATE, CoD 4 and Uncharted for my best of 2007.
