EA has released the first patch for Lionhead Studios' strategy/sim Black & White 2. This rather large update brings your retail game to v1.1 and addresses a few issues that were found after shipping the game to the manufacturer, as well as a few balancing tweaks that improve the Gameplay in the Lands. Beware, save games are not compatible...
You can grab the Black & White 2 v1.1 patch (http://www.worthplaying.com/article.php?sid=28925) (106mb) over at WorthPlaying.

It's Lionhead. They did the same thing with the first B&W as I recall, having to start the game over again when the first patch was released. Apparently just making some kind of save game converter is too much effort. ;(

If I have to start the game over again from scratch after installing the first patch, I'm knocking 50% off my review score. What is half of one star anyway?

Heh, well, technically you don't have to install the patch if you're not having any issues.....
That's what you smelly americans get by having the game before the rest of the world :P

"Added two development team members to credits (sorry guys). "lol you were doing them a favor not putting their names on that game. I'm pretty sure if those guys apply for a job and say they worked on bw2 they will instantly be turned down.
If you head over to the official lionhead website. Youll see that theirs 2 topics. 1 topic for what you like, and another for what you dont like. The like topic has 80 posts, the dont like has around 200. And these are die hard bw fans complaining about a laundry list of issues. The only positive thing i have heard said about the game is the graphics. And what i feared peter would do he did, focusing on stupid add ons like ants and blades of grass. Yes its pretty, but when it comes to game play it doesn't matter. People come back for game play not ants and blades of grass.
For instance, even though peter said it wont be in the game, no skirmish mode or multiplayer. Not including that in a rts is like heresy.
Then the AI is retarded as hell when they attack you. So at least put a decent AI in the game when you dont have a skirmish mode or multiplayer.
Their are tons more issues about the game that i didnt list. But its sad that this game didnt live up to the hype or bare minimum standards. If they did this game right and had a good company releasing it lets say relic or blizzard. This game could have been game of the year.
And the game felt rushed, even though they had like 3 years.
Check out the complaints. http://allboards.lionhead.com/showthread.php?t=97765

Considering that some of the quests are broken if you don't patch, I would say it is pretty much a requirement.

Sadly, I keep hearing fairly negative press about this title. My son loved the first one (though neither he nor I ever finished it). I was hoping the second would indeed fix some of the more annoying issues with the first. Perhaps it did, but it seems to have introduced even more annoying issues. Well, maybe I'll pick it up next year when it's $19 at GoGamer.

The game had sounded like it would be so fun. Why must Peter play with my fragile emotions so...

Can't say you guys weren't warned. Black and White 2 is a bargain bin purchase if I ever saw one.

The hell?
It got an 8.2 at Gamespot, not all of the reviews are negative. What's with the mindless bashing of the game? Also if you go to the official B&W2 website and read the patch news post you'll find this: "The above procedure isn't vital, it is just advised. The patch is not vital either."
I've been enjoying the game for about six or seven hours so far and I'm happy with it.

The only reason it got a 8.2 is because they just rated it on graphics. If you see bw1 got a 9.3 originally now it moves down a whole point because of the sequel?
I mean cmon now its the same game just with a face lift. They even use the same opening cut scene from the first game. If you play this game you can tell it is rushed. I'm still amazed that you release a game with no skirmish or multiplayer. Then you would at least expect a great AI to play against in single player. But no the AI has to be the worst AI I have ever played against.
And the creature seems like its a step back from bw1. Those little word bubbles showing you his thoughts basically ruin the whole mystique about his AI. He seems like more of a robot in this game then in bw1. If he does something you dont like smack him a bunch of times, its like a on off switch.

I really wanted this game to be good. It had so much potential. But of course the tell tale signs were that every interview peter did he would just rave on about "ants" and "blades of grass".
I wish relic or blizzard would have made this game because it could have been one of the best rts of the year.

whoa, when you click on the link to the bw2 forums posted above, a little security alert thing pops up if you arent registered with their site. its a neat effect emulating the actual security alerts in firefox and ie. i know its all done on hte page and now by the browser itself, but its neat.

I don't want to seem like an ass here... but it serves you right. This is just as bad or worse than supporting EA. Lionhead is known for releasing really crappy games that promise way more than they deliver. That's what they are KNOWN for. Other companies may only be known for releasing one good game, they have yet to do this. Black & White, Fable, Black & White 2. You should of known better by now.

Actually, the first one was fun... at least the first level. Once they introduced the lameo beast fighting and stupid RTS combat with other gods, it lost my interest.

Yeah. Like those n-Space guys, they went and made some "Geist" game, and I was waiting for Mary-Kate & Ashley 2. Bastards.

No, they didn't. You can skip the movement tutorial, but then you are still locked into a bunch of tutorials once you get to the 2nd map. It is really freaking annoying.

Can't you just type a cheat code and skip to whatever level you're on?
Too harsh there.

I usually don't agree with you, Evil, but I'm right with you on this one.
I got burned on BOTH of the b&w games... never again.
Hey, Lionhead? No more money for you, okay? :(

listen to the people who bought B&W 1, there is a reason we didn't buy this one ;)
I haven't even contemplated it. I still have B&W 1 if anyone wants to set fire to it.

My impressions of this title so far are that it is a sure fire winner for the "Worst Game of the Year" category.
From what I can see, they fixed nothing that was broken from the first game and really added nothing at all to speak of. It is the same game with a tiny bit different graphics and the ability to "war" with other towns on a basis that is so annoying and limited that it might as well not be there at all.
I hope word gets out and this one tanks bad at the retail counter.

Without beta testing it or anything. Thats why i never buy any RTS from EA because now a day you cant trust them to release a quality product.

And people buy this shit.

For some strange reason I grabbed this the other day. I remember playing the first one a lot and enjoying it despite the fact that they had disabled your creature for a good half to 2/3rds of the game.
I've put a few hours into the sequel and it is nice but I'm starting to think that I was an idiot again. Sigh. I don't even particularly like RTS's anymore (got waaay too burnt out on them by 2-3 years ago) so I'm not sure why I picked this up... Sigh...
It does really feel like the same game as the first with slightly nicer graphics and new puzzles. Ah well. Serves me right for running out and picking it up without checking the reviews.

I saw like 4 fucking game spot inverviews with peter and they all went like this.
Peter:Hey look the grass, look at the grass, blades of grass this games amazing. This game is a breakthrough because of the blades of grass.

I enjoyed the original so i'll get this eventually. And for the record i really really really really really liked fable, i dunno why but i loved the world, the graphic style and just the way the game played, but then again i learned not to listen to molyeneux after Black and White wasn't all it was cracked up to be. So whatever i just got Fable cuz it sounded cool and i like the gameplay videos. And i've replayed it like 3 times.

I kind of feel sorry for Peter Molyneux. He has these grand game visions that either a) can't be realized with current technology, or b) can't be realized in the production time frame alotted.
Black and White is like a skeleton, that if fully fleshed out would've ended up being Jessica Alba, but since it never gets fully fleshed out, ends up being a zombie leper.

OK, well, I'm going to play devils advocate and write something good about the game, and say that overall I DO like it.
First, in the interest of showing that I'm sane, I'll admit the gameplay it broken and there are tons of problems. Some of the game is frustrating and slow. The writing is bad. There are LOTS of problems to pick on... BUT...
This is probably the coolest "sandbox" I've ever seen in a game and I think that deserves an acknowedgement. If you put that creature dude on the DS and just walked him around you'd have a better looking version of Nintendogs. The graphics are up to or above any other game out right now. The freeform ability to interact with everything, build little cities, and watch 'em get blown apart realistically without resorting to lame particle FX and useing real physics is AWSOME. This game does SO MUCH RIGHT, it's a shame its shortcomings will stop it from endeering itself to anyone, because there's alot of potential and alot that was really strong.
