id Software and Activision send along word that the DOOM 3 expansion pack, DOOM 3: Resurrection of Evil, is now shipping for the Xbox console system. This stand-alone expansion pack does not require a copy of DOOM 3 Xbox.

id Software and Activision, Inc. have unleashed a new wave of hellish demon hordes upon console gamers with the release of DOOM 3: Resurrection of Evil for the Xbox video game system from Microsoft. Co-developed by id Software and Nerve Software, this stand-alone extension of the DOOM 3 saga features a new storyline encompassing never before seen locations, tougher demons, powerful weapons like the classic double-barrel Shotgun and the physics defying Grabber, and the power to control time. Additionally, DOOM 3: Resurrection of Evil turns up the multiplayer carnage with a number of new maps and also includes bonus content complete with id classics, DOOM II and Master Levels for DOOM II. DOOM 3: Resurrection of Evil is available at retail outlets nationwide for a suggested retail price of $29.99 and carries an “M” (Mature) rating by the ESRB.

Played all the way through Doom 3, with it just good enough that I was waiting for it to get good. It never happened. Got finished and it was like "that's IT?!?" Sold the game the next week, and I keep *all* my games.

Makes you wish for more Half-Life and Halo. Not picking this up.

People seem to think that the expansion was a better playing experience than DOOM 3. I've never tried it, though I have been tempted.

I dunno i thought doom 3 was fun in my opinion, but then again i find playing doom 1 and 2 for long ammounts of time still enjoyable.

Yeah, I had a blast playing DOOM 3. It was simple mindless gameplay, but that's what the DOOM series has always been about, and that's what I wanted when I bought it.

I still haven't beaten DOOM 3 yet, because, I'll admit, that game freaks me out after playing it for a couple minutes. I'll get absorbed in the game, and then it will launch some monsters behind me out of a monster closet. Cheap? Yes. Effective in making me jump out of my skin? Definitely.

I really can't justify picking up an expansion (for PC or Xbox) when I haven't finished the game itself.

I'd be interested in picking up the Doom 3 expansion, if I knew it would work with the, um, particular copy of Doom 3 that I have. Shhhhhh..........

The expansion pack was much better than the original -- more variety all around, few monster closets, and while maybe not more difficult actually (due to the grabber and the powerups), it feels more challenging. It's very smart of them to release it as a standalone on the console. It would be cool if they did it for the PC too, but that's probably not gonna happen.

HAHA! That is exactly what I thought. They are running thin on ideas.
