Long time lurker, first time poster.
I think this (http://www.heavy.com/browserling.php?vchid=1) is pretty cool and want to let people know about it. It is the first part of a series based around Indigo Prophecy.
What are your thoughts about machinima in general and where do you think it fits into the gaming culture?

As someone that is from Europe. I have been wondering about the naming of the game in the US. Is it just because the Amarican publisher thought people mabye wouldnt like hearing Fahrenheit name because of the Michael Moore movie? Or is it just all in my head?? :)

I really like machinima when it's done really well; Red vs. Blue for instance. Most of the time though it's just really bad because the people involved aren't terribly good at making something visually compelling and almost always aren't very good at writing. Didn't really care much for this one, but I don't mean to bag on your first post.

I would work hard to get teams to use my game in their machina, as it amounts to free advertising. Of course, the problem becomes that it can be interrupted as not actively persuing your copyrights.

Why is it called Fahrenheit anyway? I played the UK version and Indigo Propecy or The Indigo Child sound much better. At least they are mentioned in the game. But Fahrenheit? Eh. Generic title, nothing catchy.
Oh, and that Machima sucks ass. Stupid as hell, don't even click on the link, anyone. Don't say I didn't warn you.

Simon says was fun when you were a kid not so much these days when you expect to be playing a fucking game.
Oh and i wouldn't call a fucking horrid voice over machinima, i'd call it a waste of my time and yours THANKS.

That's a good point, why WASN'T it called Indigo Prophecy everywhere else? I imagine the Michael Moore similarity did have something to do with the name change, though.

It's called Fahrenheit because the temperarture becomes important later in the game. I guess it didn't keep that name in the states for the reasons you suggest (generic), while at the same time, when I think of fahrenheit, I think of Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury, and therefore HEAT rather than COLD. That's just how I am though. Both titles are good though.

Just out of curiosity, did everyone who ripped on this thing so much watch the whole thing? In the beginning, it seemed just as bad as you said it was, but by the end, I was slightly intrigued.... it even conjured up a half smile at one point.
I'd say, on a scale of 1 to 10, it started off at about -1, but moved up to a 2.7 before it was done.

Watched all the way through. Wasn't the worst thing I've seen, but was very far from the best. Don't think it caught my attn. to give it another shot however.
<Constructive criticism>The thing is, to use an obvious comparison, Red vs. Blue is interesting because physically it's amusing, the "actors" are dead on in their movements, the camera work is good to great and the script has good pacing and seems pretty natural. Sadly, this has very little of the above. The script sounded forced and kind of dull, the "acting" was all from a scripted scene at the beginning of the game (I believe, I was watching a co-worker play it, and he didn't have any control over the char. then I think). So it's a first effort, but that's about all I can say.<\Constructive criticism>
That's just my opinion though.
Check out www.thecodexseries.com, they've got some pretty cool stuff going on. Sort of like Red vs Blue, but more action oriented.

While I don't have a link, I did read an interview, where the developers talked about that.
The name was changed for the Michael Moore thing, and in fact the developers liked Indigo Prophecy more, but they'd already advertised the game around Europe, so they didn't want to harsh the buzz.

www.loading-ready-run.com has some nice machinima stuff, too. Some game, some cartoon, but both hilarious.

I've been watching the PANIC machinima, that's pretty nicely done, however I'm not a fan of RvsB, I dunno it just doesn't conjure up any humour for me.
The funny thing is, my sister, who's in the film/animation industry, goes to a few talks where they get speakers in from the film industry to talk about current events and how things are changing when it comes to film making. All the high up artistry people have only JUST noticed machinima and all are excited in that really annoying way like "oh all the little people are making their own films, isn't that FABULOUS?!" and we're like.. yeah it's been around ages..
I've even made a couple albeit they were just fun little things to mess around with but I'd love to make a more complete sketch.
As for affecting the industry, I think it's a good thing, and attempting to use games like Indigo which don't allow for modification, is a hard line to take since you're stuck with the original content.

There is actually an article in the Wall St. Journal about Machinima today... looks like Heavy.com is producing a few series based on IP (as mentioned), GUN and SHADOW OF THE COLOSSUS... and they are doing it as just a cool way to make original programming.
I like the Geezer one from the top post... it was not the funniest thing I have ever seen, but it beats your average viral video clip of a fat kid wiping out on bike (or whatever).

I'm curious - is your name a spoonerism (http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=spoonerism)? If so, it's in bad taste.
And the machinima is no great shakes. There was a Half-Life 2 one posted based on A Few Good Men - that was pretty awesome.

the game itself was pretty short, But damn entertaining.
As for the prophey skit, it has it's moments, worth a click if you've played it.
