Rag Doll Kung Fu is also a complete computer game.

Any word on how big this thing is? I'm downloading it at 900k/s+ and it's only at like 5%. Is there a website or any info about what exactly this game is?

Ow... Your post is so wrong that it hurts. Could you fix the glaring errors, please?

Nope, not Source engine, but you could have fooled me. But I'm affraid if you want me to buy your game, no matter how inexpensive it is, you're going to have to give me a demo first. A playble demo, please, not a video.
Chagrinful
10-05-2005, 05:49 PM
yea, needs a demo, or maybe we can expect no demos for all the "great" products released over steam? The video looked pretty shitty.
If your saying the "mini-game" part is a "glaring error" then your wrong DOD:source is a MOD not a game.

Except... it is not a mod. It is a game using the same engine. Is Half-Life a mod of Unreal?

Seriously.
People need to learn the difference between a mod, a game, and a total conversion.

Also, "mod" is an abbreviation of "modification". I don't know any situation in which typing "mod" in caps makes sense.

This is a message for those who remain outside the know: a demo for this game is stated to be released either on the day the game is or near it.
Why is Rag Doll Kung Fu a game? In an interview, Mark Healey estmated he wrote about 95% of the code for the game, with the rest being the occasional tidbit that someone helped him out with. It is an entirely new game and has nothing to do with Source. Its only relation to Valve is that it is being distributed through Steam; this allows it the low, low price of $13 when preordered. What a deal!

But honestly, it's not that DoD: Source is a mod, rather, it used to be a mod and perhaps not enough has changed in terms of gameplay for people to escape the feeling that it is still, in essence, a mod. Big sentence.

hey will steam pre-sell my game...It's called Fleeceu and is kind of like a cross between pong and tennis. It will load really fast since it's only 12k and is copied from an old issue of compute magazine. But is totally mine..I changed the code to work with Steam.. I will pre-sell for the low low price of $8.

Half-Life 2 is a modification of Quake. The Carmack even confirmed that Half-Life 2 contains Quake code. Pretty sad that Newell and his boys couldn't even write their own engine without The Carmack's influence. At least Tim Sweeney learned how to code and created his own engine.

There's such a thing as engine licensing.

Scroll down to Quake 3 Source and we see that he says there are bits of quake code in HL2. StGeorge is the loser for this thread.
There are probably bits of quake code in the doom3 engine as well. Why would you throw away perfectly good code?

I would say Yes and Yes. I would also say it is fairly painfully obvious in both cases.
And to add insult to injury, I would say that Deux Ex 2 is a BAD mod of Unreal Tournament.

Since Ragdoll Kung Fu isn't a mod and it isn't a Source game, I'm totally going to bring this back to the origial topic...
I just finished the pre-load and the pre-order; both processes went rather quickly. Now, I'm happily awaiting the arrival of the 12th so I finally have a chance to play this game. I've waited long enough for it, that's for sure...

Chimpbot - I'm preloading now, how big is this thing? I assumed a 2D game wouldn't be huge, but it's downloading SLLOOOWWW.
EDIT: Nevermind, properties window reports 300-some megs. I assume that's a total, not what's downloaded so far. Hasn't been going long enough.

Half-Life 2 did not license the Quake engine. They are claiming to be a new engine. That is where the problem lies. YES, Deus Ex is a modification of Unreal. YES, Return to Castle Wolfenstein is a modification of Quake 3. No one denies that, because they quite openly state that their games license engines and use modified versions of those engines. Half-Life 2, on the other hand, claims to be a brand new engine when it in fact is not. Therefore your points are invalid and actually quite laughable. Check and mate, sucker.
It is quite sad that people have a hard time presenting valid arguments and have to resort to petty name calling. I guess it goes with the terrority of being isolated geeks with little or no social value.
There are people in this thread who would be punched in the face and probably sent to a hospital on a stretcher if they took these attitudes with me in person. But then again, people like that probably never leave their apartments and quietly accept their pathetic lots in life, anyway. Fucking losers.

It's 326 megs, to be precise
Also, it's not really a 2D game...the levels are 3D, but the characters are high-quality sprites.
Close enough, though.

holy crap. i hate the internet.
there's no dictionary definition of Mod, Total Conversion, or Licensed game, so stop acting like you're the official source on game engines.
A Mod is generally accepted to be a partial modification of existing resources of a game. Parts of the original game still exist in the mod, and the end result is a mix of the original and new game.
A Total Conversion is generally a fan-made complete overhaul of the game. The engine is used, but few or no existing resources are used, and it's basically a new game.
A game with a Licensed engine is essentially a Professional version of a Total Conversion.
I'm pretty sure that no one would call Bioware's newly announced RPG Mass Effect an Unreal mod. It uses the Unreal Engine 3, but it will likely be an action RPG in the vein of KOTOR or Jade Empire.
Similarly, Stubbs the Zombie is more than a mod of the Halo engine. Wideload licensed the engine, but it's not a Halo mod.
Oh, and also, shut up.

So I'm confused, do you know so much about this by membership in the group? Or are you an arrogant asshole from outside the "fucking losers" category of society?
Seriously, for someone who jumped in by saying "why do you have to argue by all calling names?" the last 2/3 of your post was pretty devoid of redeeming value. But I'm sure glad to know you're willing to physically attack people who disagree with you using "attitude." Someday I imagine you'll learn that "I'll kick your ass!" actually has no logical argumentative value. I hope you don't get yourself locked up before then.
