View Full Version : Tomb Raider coming to Xbox 360
Eidos has released a teaser trailer for the Xbox 360 version of the upcoming Tomb Raider game.
Hot on the heels of the announcement of Tomb Raider: Legend for the Xbox 360 (http://www.pro-g.co.uk/news/nid/1264/1596/) that was made at X05 yesterday, Eidos has released a short trailer for the game. While not looking as 'next-gen' as something like Gears of War or Project Gotham Racing 3, the trailer shows a clear step up visually over the Xbox and PlayStation 2 version.

This actually looks decent... I may give it a chance if it gets above 8.0 on most reviews.

The breast bobbling at the end looks absurd.
I mean, you can question the necessity of breast jiggling all you want. I just think it should look right if you're gonna do it.
I've never understood the reason for so many bad Tomb Raider games. The idea is awesome (big breasted girl runs around shooting bad guys), yet no one has been able to make the game tolerable.

Well... the first two were great at the time. But since then the game series has just gotten increadibly stale, and often bad even compared to the originals. The last I played was the one before Angel of Darkness, and it sucked ass. Luckily it only costed me like $10, so it wasn't a big loss.

With Crystal Dynamics behind the game now it could possibly be good. I loved Legacy of Kain: Defiance and I thought their graphics engine was outstanding.
Boob Raider is dead and stanky... why don't they leave it buried?!?
The first one was cool. The second one was "okay". After that, everyone else caught up and surpassed them so much, it's not even funny!
Even with a new engine, new people, the franchise is smelly. The video doesn't look like it's anything more than what Boob Raider did before.
Tomb Raider, Eidos and Crystal Dynamics fell off...
edit: And so did Core. Didn't want to leave them out, since they haven't done anything good for a decade!

Awesome, looks really good to me. I hope this will be a return to grace for the TR series. I have faith that Crystal Dynamics can pull it off if anyone can (since Core ran it into the ground).

I think this game has a solid chance of being good. Here's hoping!

Do we really need more Tomb Raider, she was dead they should've left her that way. To paraphrase Mr. Smith, " Ms. Croft. I watched you die... with a certain satisfaction, I might add."

Is CD really that good of a developer though? Sure the first Legacy of Kain was interesting and fun, but any game with block pushing puzzles can only go on for so long. Were the sequels really that great?

The first Legacy of Kain wasn't made by them, that was Silicon Knights. They made the Soul Reaver games and the later Kain games which I enjoyed very much. Soul Reaver 2 was a fantastic game, Legacy of Kain: Defiance was great, and I also really enjoyed Project Snowblind. Crystal Dynamics may not be one of the best developers out there but they're certainly one of the best under the Eidos umbrella and they make good games.

I don't think it takes a genius developer to do Tomb Raider right. TR is all about atmosphere. You give me a decent looking game that doesn't control like crap and lets me crawl and climb around in cool cave like environments and I'm in. Crystal Dynamics is certainly competent enough to handle that. The atmosphere of the Soul Reaver games was pretty well done for a small developer. They seem to have enough sensibilities to keep their audience in mind when designing levels, pacing, and play mechanics, which is a lot more than I can say for Core given the way they designed the last three or so TR games.

Yeah, I know that Silicon Knights developed Blood Omen. I meant to say they developed the first Soul Reaver game, my mistake.
I remember when all the magazines were shouting that Soul Reaver would destroy Lara Croft.
Not hugely important but I needed to say it.

Man, I really don't like what they've done with Lara Croft. I think she looked better in "Angel of Darkness". She looks more like an insect than a woman. One of the pleasures of Tomb Raider was looking at the character. If I don't like how she looks then there's zippy chance I'm going to buy it. They should go to Team Ninja and take some lessons on character design.

I really don't see why this game even gets attention in the press. How many poor sequels do you need before you just ignore a franchise and let it die?

Toby Gard's a pretty clever guy. Galleon had some really nice ideas, it just need some more polish. Hopefully he'll bring those gameplay ideas into this, combined with CD's visuals and execution.

They could always bastardize her like Ubi is doing with the Prince; and "Dark Prince." ~_~

But dude, he's so dark and awesome and goth and in my face!

Exactly civx ... Instead of bastardized, maybe it should be Extremed the Prince. We can even call it extremedized for effect.
I mean I can flush out a pretty playable if not fun version of a Lara Croft game in my head. Can it be that hard for these guys? Did CD do the last Tomb Raider games.

Project: Snowblind was really solid, so i have hope for this.

They already tried to make her "more mature" in Angel of Darkness.
Xerxes - Core did the last TR, not CD.

Project:Snowblind was good? Shit, I might have to dig it back out. I thought it blew big chunks. Typical crappy consolse FPS was how I remember it.

It's a shame because the Sands of Time wasn't a bad game. But oh no, it didn't have lots of combat, better make the game darker for no reason!

They could of kept the music that went the atmosphere. Hell I bought the british indian sounding prince. The Prince a normal ass hero didn't have to be remade into a crazy looking pirate. Adding combat didn't mean making the whole game ass. Like Gabe(PA) said, it's like they tried to make the game shitty but too much of the original stayed to fuck it up totally. Maybe not totally but they fucked it up.
