View Full Version : Return to Castle Wolfenstein... Again!
Shacknews (http://www.shacknews.com/onearticle.x/38938) reports that Raven software is working on a new Wolfenstein game.
Bar the fact that it's actually in the works, the most notable piece of news is that we should expect it to have "one huge game world" and "no more loading individual levels."
Blues News also had this snippet:
id Software's newest chapter in the legendary "Wolfenstein" series will deliver players deep behind the enemy lines of a war-torn Germany, where Nazi experiments with technology and the supernatural threaten to turn the tide of World War II. Utilizing a revolutionary new graphics technology targeted specifically at next-generation hardware, this new "Wolfenstein" experience will draw players into a world of unmatched exploration, action and espionage.
It'd be cool if id worked on a couple of new IPs but I guess everybody loves the classics.

Hahahaha. The days of id Software are numbered.
Assuming id is working on a new in-house game, I'm going to guess it's a new IP. If only so they can farm it out for another 8 years :). The clock's near midnight on Wolfenstein and Doom.
Quake still has a few more titles left in it tough.
Oh yeah, PC or Xbox only? Has Raven ever made a console or consolish title?

Hahahaha. The days of id Software are numbered. You keep thinking that while they sit and chuckle at the size of their back accounts. Are they the powerhouse they once were? Maybe not - but that doesn't mean they're down for the count.
What's strange is that it doesn't sound like this is intended to be running on the Doom3 engine. Or if it is, it would be a heavily modified version.
Assuming id is working on a new in-house game, I'm going to guess it's a new IP.
Perhaps, but I think we can assume they certainly aren't working on a new colour pallete.

Is that what it's called now? For a second I thought there were three systems in there.

Should they be calling these Wolfenstein games if it doesn't focus around the Castle Wolfenstein? I mean, the originals had us exclusively inside the castle the entire time but the now ones seem to be less focused on the castle and more interested in Nazis and the Supernatural experiments of their scientists. Shouldn't they just call it "It's those damn Nazis again!" instead?

This was my favorite Xbox LIVE! game.
Of the entire 4 year period.
They really could call this title "Those Damned Nazi's" and I would still consider buying it... Very many of my good friends share this sentiment with me. The mulitplayer on LIVE! just held up really really well over a long period of time. Especially if you play it with real friends who will use team tactics to win objectives.

They should give up the remake. Set it current day, and give it some new aspects. I'm sure a mansion with monster, mutants, and nazi's is cursed goods. Sure some more shit can go down at such a fucked up place. WW2 all over again >_<.

Nazi's + The Undead = fun in my book. My favorite baddies combined. I would like to see a modern Wolfenstein game using modern weaponry. M4's, Ak-47's and what not.

Yeah, it's really amazing that id has gotten by for 13 years now on 3 franchises. 15 years and 4 if you count Commander Keen.
I would like to see some original IP from them, but you know it'd be similar to Quake/Doom..

where Nazi experiments with technology and the supernatural threaten
That's exactly what we need, another WWII based game where we shoot aliens with plasma rifles. Slap a new engine on top and you can ride the hype machine like a broken record.

I think it should by a kooky platformer game.
"Coming next year it's the Return to Castle Wolfenstein 2: Wolfy Stomps the Nazis! It's a hilarious romp through those hallowed and creepy halls as Sirius "Wolfy" Wolfenstein returns to his family home only to find it overflowing with Nazis. They may be armed with the latest in Third Reich weapons but Wolfy isn't coming unprepared. Carrying with him the Wolfenstein curse and summoning the powers of the moon, Wolfy can transform into a high jumping, razor claw slicing, fireball shooting werewolf ready to give Hitler and his occult scientists a D-Day of his very own."

Maybe if you read it a few times slowly you'll understand..... It's being developed for the Xbox 360 (which is from Microsoft) and the PC. It's worded just fine.
It's the "and entertainment system" that jumbles it a bit if you're skimming.
I just clicked through their game pages, totally forgot they did HeXen 2. iD really does like them.
One for the grammar nazis (oh the irony). If I put iD at the beginning of a sentence do I need to make the i an capital letter?
I think no, but I'm no grammar nazi. And the d is lower case :). I believe it was iD years ago and then changed to id.
