I really wonder if they'll play with the formula much more. Or if it's just going to essentially be Splinter Cell 3 on Next Gen hardware.

OMG DID YOU SAY NEW BREED... ZOMG...
They did have a trailer for it on IGN, I'm thinking it's CG though.

Actually, if you go to the teaser site, you see a flyer that asks you to log in to Ubi's community and help "track down Sam Fisher". Wonder if in the next game Sam goes rogue and you play another US agent who has to hunt him down. Not innovative by a long shot, but an interesting twist to the story.

I just hope that versus is still in. Chaos Theory is pretty much the only online game I play these days.

Actually I hear that he has joined a UN recognized non-profit who's aim is to limit nuclear arms. You'll play as Sam for the first 1/8th of the game and then randomly switch to an effeminate new agent.
But dont worry. Sam will live on.

Man, I know the general consensus lately is that sequels are totally gay and for huge faggots that love to be gay, but MAN, Chaos Theory is an awesome game. If they're maintaining that level of quality, then I for one, am psyched to play 4.

I agree. Both the single player and multiplayer of Chaos Theory are really well made games. If it's the same studio developing the 4th one, then I'm sure it will be an excellent game.

Can we keep the homophobic slurs to a dull roar please?
That being said I dont see the appeal. Its like if they made Pac Man 3: Chaos Theory and it was the best pac man game ever made.
In the end its still just pac man, and we've played pac man. After a while one starts to get bored.

Now that would be nice. A rogue Sam Fisher. What somebody do, kidnap his little girl (I say little girl cause I can't spell daughter) and he's working this alone? Like in Commando?

these are great games but it seems like we get a new version every year. Its becoming the new tony hawk of espionage gaming

it was more tounge-in-cheek than actually a slur, but apologies anyway.
The thing is (running with your analogy) is that I really LIKE pac-man, and enjoy playing Pac-Man. If they can give me more of the same high quality Pac-Man, hopefully with a few new little twists to keep things fresh (like that delightful bow), then I'm happy.
That's not to say that ALL I want to play is Pac-Man, but every so often a new Pac-Man game would be nice.
(Just to clarify, we're still talking about Splinter Cell.)

In that case, InstaPete, I do see your point. Even so it makes me wish they would do something truely innovative and not just another version of the original with better graphics, controls, and a different story. I cant get this feeling out of my mind that games are becoming increasingly derivative. Its a real problem.

Without getting into another sequel vs new IP discussion, I think it's been that way for a long time, and I do think it is a bit of a problem, though I understand why it happens.
BUT if high quality is maintained (as it has been in SC, so far, at least), then I don't really have a huge problem with it. If the games start getting shitty, then there definitely is a problem.
I think the Tony Hawk series is a good example of the opposite effect, at least in terms of degrading quality. I LOVE THPS2, and I thought 4 was pretty solid. But I felt like THUG and THUG2 plummeted in quality, and the new one doesn't look much better. So I'm not really interested at all in buying anything else from the series. If they were all as good as 2, then maybe I would be. Does that make sense?

I think the solution is pretty simple. If you're tired of the game series, don't buy the new one. If enough people feel that way, they'll move on.

Hmm...
Is Sam Fisher gonna be old and grey in this one? You know, to compete with MGS4? You know what they say about secret ops - older the better, preferrably a hundred. Who's gonna suspect an old geezer?

Your impression would be wrong then. We're more making fun of the wording of the announcement, since it's a good bet it's going to be more of the same + better graphics. At least from this early on (they probably just started real work on the project). Though as always is the case, I'll save my judgement until it's out. I just hate PR.

Its not the fact that it's a sequel that bugs me - it's the fact that it is the FOURth Splinter Cell title in FOUR years. This yearly franchise thing is way past old now.
Seriously, people bitch about Nintendo making sequels, but do we see a new Zelda or Mario (core) title every year? Nope...

Yeah but you can argue that every time they release a new splinter cell its good or as better as the last one.
Compared to some nintendo releases that slowly get worse and worse after every sequel.
