Holy crap TDK has made a lot of money. Almost more than the GNP of Montserrat and Micronesia put together.

I read that The Dark Knight is expected to hit the $400 million mark within 18 days. If any movie has a chance to sink Titanic's record, The Dark Knight does.

According to Box Office Mojo (http://www.boxofficemojo.com/weekend/chart/), Dark Knight and Indy 4 both cost $185 million to make, and yet Dark Knight surpassed what Indy 4 has managed to do domestically in 12 weeks, in less than 2.

Well duh. There is one distinct difference between the two films in my mind: The Dark Knight did not wantonly shit on its the source material, Indy 4 did.

It'll top off at $500 million.
TDK broke the largest total for a second weekend ever (breaking Shrek 2's $72 million, which was a 33% drop). TDK's rather large 53% drop is a bad sign. Biggest 3rd weekend was Spider-Man with $45 million. No way TDK will top that, it'll clock in at about $30 million.
Then starts the Titanic run of "never gonna be touched" records. I don't think people realize what a freak of nature this movie was:
biggest 4th week - $28 million
biggest 5th week - $30 million (!)
biggest 6th week - $25 million
biggest 7th week - $25 million (!)
biggest 8th week - $23 million
biggest 9th week - $28 million (Valentine's weekend)
biggest 10th week - $21 million
biggest 11th week - $19 million
biggest 12th week - $17 million
At this point, it stood at $450 million and went on to make $150 million more *after it's 12th week*. It never made more than $35 million in any of its weeks.

Yeah, but Indy has $430 million international while TDK is tanking worldwide with just $120 million international (generally you aim to make as much non-US as you do in the US).
Indy 4 = $743 million
TDK = $442 million
Granted, TDK will pass Indy 4 eventually on domestic alone, but TDK's international take is shockingly bad.
To put it in perspective, Titanic made $1.2 billion just outside the US... more than any other movie has made WORLDWIDE.

That's true, but Dark Knight still hasn't opened in Japan and parts of Europe yet, not that it'd probably make a huge difference at this point.
I'm personally just glad Iron Man beat Indy 4.

saw batman at a 10:45 saturday morning showing this weekend. Almost sold-out and there was a surprising number of elderly ladies there by themselves.
Also a few young kids (couldn't have been more than 5), one of which I could hear telling his dad on several occasions how scared he was.

Yeah, but the large drop isn't really surprising, nor is it terrible. Everyone had seen it one weekend...of course it was going to drop. It's repeat business is supposedly really good.
Get Smart really earned $124 million dollars? Really? Wow.

Finally able to reserve a set of tickets for the IMAX showing this Saturday night. Having kids and a "life" (I use that term loosely) does have its disadvantages from time to time. ;)

Those teenage girls also dragged their boyfriends. TDK doesn't bring in as many people.
Don't forget that Titanic tickets were about 1/2 the price of TDK.
TDK was an awesome movie, it deserves to make the most this year.
I do feel bad for Hellboy 2, as it was quite an enjoyable film.

Xfiles was very good.
I have to strongly disagree and I am a very ardent X-Files fan. The chosen story was clearly C- level X-files to C+ level Millennium fare. In fact, it should have been a Millennium movie instead. The story wandered here and there. Reasons for motivations of the antagonists were NEVER explained (Don't give me the old "but it's X-Files" routine). What purpose? Why? Second there was no danger to the characters we care about until the end and even then it was no more than 3 minutes of screen time. There was no tension, no terror, not for characters that didn't mean anything. The whole Father Joe main plot was pointless as nothing was resolved. Bleeding from eyes does not an X-Files make. The base story line of was handled better on similar TV episodes, like Clyde Bruckman's Last Repose.
I wanted to believe, see what I did there, that this movie could reignite people's interest in the series. But it isn't going to happen as there are no water-cooler moments, like the TV series had.
Yes it was fun picking out all the nods to the series and characters from the TV show. But this was a really bad script, that didn't warrant the decade wait. Which is doubly frustrating because Carter is a talented writer and knows what gets people talking. How he completely missed the freaking boat is shocking.
This was clearly a filler episode that Carter just expanded an extra hour and a half to. An hour and a half too long. X-Files goes out with a whimper and if this is the best they can do after six years, I hope it stays dead.

It's Indiana fucking Jones - he's dealt with the Ark and the Holy Grail and a Mayan/Extraterrestrial encounter throws you for a loop? What the hell were you expecting, him to examine the Zapruder film or something?
He excavated graves. Went to archaeological digs. Found something fantastic that human kind should have left buried. Wow, that sounds a hell of a lot different than the other three. Especially with all the fist fights and bull whips. What a departure from the formula.

Indy 4 sucked huge cock...if that wasn't perfectly clear to you by the infamous fridge scene then perhaps you just have the worst taste in film.

I'm trying to keep a straight face here...keep in mind I was the guy who defended The Phantom Menace to death so it's hilarious you're accusing me of bashing something because that's the "in" thing to do.
Indy 4 was horrible. It was a horrible script, it was poorly edited and the acting was some of the worst I've ever seen.
It was lifeless and joyless. The fridge scene was one of many that were groan enducing...I was literally laughing out of my seat.
Do yourself a favor...no wait....do us a favor and go watch Raiders so you can see what a good movie is like.

Indy 4 is on par with the second and third movies. Watch them again and see if time and nostaligia hasn't tainted your view of them.
The refrigerator and jungle swordfight scenes were embarrassing, but so was the minecart in TOD, and the last 20 minutes of TLC. If you were expecting something better...you didn't get it. That's true. But this wasn't a disastrous sequel. There's just no way it could live up to how people remember the original trilogy. But it does live up to how they really were (the last two, anyway. The first is in its own category).
Glad to see X Files bomb. If you don't answer questions this late in the game, you deserve to fail.
