Sony has released (http://psp.ign.com/articles/655/655563p1.html) a new battery for the PSP that gets an average of 20% more playtime. No word on whether or not this battery is standard on all new PSPs or whether it's simply an accessory.
I really have no problems with the PSP battery life. I've only had it run out on me once, and that was taking it on a week long trip.

So when are they going to get the batteries up high enough to "let" the developers hit the 333mhz CPU speed?
BTW, it's the UMD that's killing the battery, not the CPU speed. I run 333mhz homebrew stuff (w/o a UMD) for 6+ hours straight and I don't have a battery problem.

Exactly, my PSP lasts for days without a charge, but then again I play Mercury and it doesn't access the UMD very often. THOSE STAGE ARE HARD!!!
Plus I have my charger.

20% more? that's like what, one hour? i don't see how is this worth $50. as soon as they can double the battery life, i'll buy one.

I have no problem with the PSP battery. I don't have one, and I have no problem with that.

No problems onthe battery front here either. Only ran dead on me twice the whole time I've had it, and both times were after repeated opportunities to charge it that I was too lazy to take advantage of.

Battery life isn't what's keeping me from buying a PSP.

Never had a problem with the battery life in my PSP. The claim of 2~3 hours is simply not true. Either that, or you got a defective unit.

Mine has never once gone dead on me. I fail to see how it could. The PSP seems to last for 6 hours. That's a full fourth of the day! Supposing you sleep for 6-8 hours... don't you have anything else to do during the day? And if not, where are you seated for 6+ hours that you cannot plug it in?

Agreed.
I have these things called "jobs" and "girlfriend"...guitar practice, Netflix, etc...etc...
There is no way I could play the PSP for 6 hours straight, all day...all every day.

I haven't had an issue with battery life either, it sports enough juice for my schedule as it is.

Every year I travel from Europe to South America (and return), that's a 16 hours flight, if I want a portable entertainment device, I want it to last during almost all the trip, while I'm playing with it, seeing movies and listening music (yes, I love to read, but I love to read while listening music). The PSP just doesn't work for me.

They don't have power stations on Transatlantic flights? I thought they did. Even still, with only a second battery pack you could clear the trip with the machine no problem - assuming you sleep a bit during that ride.
